Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt is surging in the Republican Senate primary, according to three recent polls, as support for former Gov. Eric Greitens falls amid relentless attacks over the allegations of physical abuse and sexual assault against him. The polls, all conducted within the past week, show Schmitt in the lead and Greitens in third, behind Rep. Vicky Hartzler. The surveys do not necessarily mean Schmitt will win the Aug. 2 election, but together they indicate his campaign has gained momentum at Greitens’ expense in the final days of the race.

Lawyers for Kim Davis, the former Kentucky county clerk who received international attention for denying same-sex couples marriage licenses, say the 6-3 Republican-appointed majority on the Supreme Court could absolve her of wrongdoing after a series of religious liberty decisions. With representation from Christian nonprofit organization Liberty Counsel, her lawyers said in a July 15 filing that the high court has decided three cases that are "sharpening and amplifying the free exercise rights" at the core of Davis's qualified immunity defense, which she argues are her sincerely held religious beliefs against same-sex marriage. She's been in legal battles since 2015,...

After this weekend, Missourians will have at least a third choice in this year’s U.S. Senate race. John Wood, an attorney who held key roles in the George W. Bush administration but is running as an independent, said this weekend his campaign gathered 10,000 petition signatures. That’s the number of signatures a campaign needs before Aug. 1 to appear on the ballot. “Our goal is to double the minimum requirement to ensure that Missouri voters will have the common sense, independent choice on their ballot that they deserve on Election Day,” Wood said in a statement.
  • Greene Calls Non-Biological Parents 'Fake' Amid Post-Roe Adoption Push

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene faced criticism on social media on Saturday for calling non-biological parents "fake mom and fake dad" as Republicans push adoption as an abortion alternative in the wake of the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade. Greene, a Georgia Republican, warned about what she views as threats to children and conservative values during a discussion on her show MTG Live, which was posted to Rumble on Thursday. During the discussion, the congresswoman explained one reason she worries for children is because some are raised by "fake" parents. "Children are in the greatest danger in America today...
  • Lauren Boebert’s Shooters Grill restaurant closes after landlord refused to renew the lease

For years, downtown Rifle’s restaurant scene was anchored by one of the only places in the U.S. you could order a cheeseburger from a server packing a 9mm pistol on her hip. The establishment — Shooters Grill — was the brainchild of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert. On Sunday, the Silt Republican officially closed the doors to her restaurant. “We were like a family,” she said. “I would say Shooters, for any employee, was their life. We lived and breathed it every single day. They were a part of this culture and brand that we created in Rifle, and there was...
  • Trump Lawyer Says He Will Be Reinstated as President if GOP Win Midterms

Christina Bobb, an attorney who has supported Donald Trump's legal challenge to overturn the 2020 election, has suggested a scenario in which the former president could be reinstated after the midterm elections in November. Bobb told the conservative news outlet the Right Side Broadcasting Network (RSBN) what she thought could happen in states in which there was "evidence that Joe Biden cheated" in the election Trump and his allies have continuously claimed was fraudulent. "They could withdraw their electors, or they could actually decide to award Trump electors, although I would anticipate they will probably just withdraw the electors," she...
  • Florida GOP Sen. Rick Scott charts contrarian path to future political endeavors

Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) has managed some rare feats. He’s been accused by Senate GOP leadership of hurting the party’s chances in the midterm elections while at the same time presiding over a campaign fundraising haul for the party so large that leadership has no choice but to celebrate it. He’s united Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and President Joe Biden in opposition to his agenda. And the former Florida governor and current chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee has worked to position himself as an outsider that would presumably accompany an ultimate insider.
  • McConnell wants to win the suburbs by defusing cultural hot buttons. Trump and his own party have other ideas.

When Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell voted for the most significant gun violence prevention bill in nearly three decades, he offered a candid explanation for his turnaround after decades of opposing firearm restrictions. “It’s no secret that we’ve lost ground in suburban areas. We pretty much own rural and small-town America. And I think this is a sensible solution to the problem before us, which is school safety and mental health,” McConnell told reporters. “And yes, I hope it will be viewed favorably by voters in the suburbs that we need to regain in order to hopefully be a majority...
  • Trump thinks announcing a 2024 run now could distract from the January 6 hearings, a report says. Some Republicans worry he could hurt them in the midterms.

President Donald Trump could be planning to make an unusually early announcement of his plans to run for president, but not all Republicans are convinced it would be the right move for the party. Trump has long teased a 2024 White House run and has continued to hold campaign-style rallies, all while stopping short of saying definitively if he plans to enter the race. However, recent revelations from the House Select committee's hearings on the January 6 insurrection are impacting his plans, according to a report from The New York Times. Now, Trump is considering announcing a run far earlier...

Arlington National Cemetery would be required to disinter the remains of a former Navy officer who murdered a junior sailor decades ago under a proposed amendment to the annual defense budget bill. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) submitted the measure last week during the House Armed Services Committee’s markup of the proposed legislation. No one on the panel objected.

One day after the U.S. Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade, which gave constitutional abortion rights to women for more than 50 years, a Texas senator is now going viral online for comparing it to another landmark ruling that was overruled related to racial segregation. Sen. John Cornyn responded to a tweet by former president Barack Obama that denounced the Roe v. Wade decision. Cornyn's tweet said "Now do Plessy vs Ferguson/Brown vs Board of Education."

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), projected to lose Alabama’s GOP Senate primary runoff against rival Katie Britt after a full slap in the face from ex-President Donald Trump, concluded his rocky campaign with some bitter words in his concession speech on Tuesday night. “The voters have spoken,” but “they might not have spoken wisely,” Brooks complained to supporters at his election night party, per the Washington Post. The ultra-MAGA congressman took a shot at Britt, who won a last-minute endorsement from Trump, and her apparent lack of MAGA-ness. “It’s always appropriate to congratulate the winners, and some of these winners might...

Former President Donald Trump expressed sympathy for President Joe Biden after he fell off his bicycle, in a rare moment of goodwill between the two political rivals. "I hope he has recovered because, as you know, he fell off his bicycle today," Trump said of Biden while speaking at his American Freedom Tour in Memphis, Tennessee, on Saturday. "No, I'm serious. I hope he's okay. He fell off a bicycle," Trump said after the crowd responded with laughter.

On Monday morning, Americans heard from former members of Donald Trump’s campaign and presidential administration who described unsuccessful efforts to disabuse him of various false claims about the 2020 election. Those tuning in to the hearing of the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot learned how people like former attorney general William P. Barr tried to explain to Trump that he was wrong in his assertions about rampant election fraud, with Trump simply choosing to press forward with false claims anyway. Then, on Monday afternoon, Trump pressed forward with false claims anyway. The former president released a 12-page document...

Republican House candidate Carl Paladino praised Nazi leader Adolf Hitler’s ability to rouse “the crowds” and declared Hitler “the kind of leader we need today” in a February 2021 interview on the radio station WBEN in Buffalo, New York. Paladino, a businessman and leading GOP figure in New York state who was the party’s gubernatorial nominee in 2010, is running for the Republican nomination to replace the retiring Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-N.Y.).

Just weeks after suffering a stroke (and, days later, securing Pennsylvania's Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate), Lt. Gov. John Fetterman has revealed he has a heart condition, publishing a letter from his doctor with further details on his health. In the letter, Fetterman's cardiologist, Dr. Ramesh Chandra, said she first saw Fetterman in 2017, after he began experiencing swelling in his feet. "That is when I diagnosed him with atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm, along with a decreased heart pump," Chandra wrote.
  • Herschel Walker’s nonsense solution to mass shootings is having the government look ‘at men looking at women looking at social media’

Herschel Walker, former NFL player and Republican nominee for Senate in Georgia, is going viral for his nonsensical solution to mass shootings. In an interview with Fox News during coverage of the shooting in Uvalde, Texas where 19 children and two adults were shot dead, Walker proposed a “department that can look at young men that's looking at women that's looking at social media.” It is unclear what Walker meant by the statement. Walker was most likely referring to a conversation the shooter had with a woman on Instagram where he flaunted his guns and claimed he “had a secret”...

Former President Trump again tossed around the idea that he will run for the presidency in 2024 Thursday, as he said he'd rather be a 'dictator' than a 'dumb person and bragged about 'acing' the aptitude test. 'First they said not too smart,' Trump said, talking about how Democrats and the media described him. 'But then, they made me a dictator instead. Which would you rather be, a dumb person or a dictator? Perhaps a dictator would be better. I don't want to be a dumb person.' He bemoaned that no one calls for invoking the 25th Amendment against President...

Donald Trump has long equated crowd size with success ― reportedly even bragging of the size of the mob that attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in an attempt to block the certification of the election and keep him in power. GOP strategist Susan Del Percio said Trump’s now falling short by that measure as his rally crowds shrink. “That’s what you saw there,” she told MSNBC’s Cori Coffin one day after Trump addressed a surprisingly sparse crowd in Selma, North Carolina. “A very shrinking base.” Local newspaper The News & Observer said Trump spoke to about 1,000-2,000...
