Americans are increasingly turning to their credit cards to cover everyday expenses, with debt surpassing $1 trillion for the first time at the end of June, according to a New York Federal Reserve report published Tuesday. In the three-month period from April to June, total credit card debt surged to $1.03 trillion, an increase of $45 billion, or 4.6% from the previous quarter. It marks the highest level on record in Fed data dating back to 2003. The rise in credit card usage and debt is particularly concerning because interest rates are astronomically high right now. The average credit card...

VIVEK RAMASWAMY: Well, I started at 0.0 percent in March. I'm now at an unambiguous third in this race. And we're just getting warmed up ahead of the first debate stage. The thing about me is, I'm not attacking any of my fellow candidates. I am not running against them. I am running for this country. And that's what I see on the ground in Iowa and elsewhere. People are hungry for an actual affirmative vision, not, what are we running from? What are we running to? For my part, I stand for the America first agenda. I believe I...

Conservative commentator George Will criticized 2024 GOP primary favorites former President Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, in a column Friday, saying that both candidates will come out of the GOP primary weaker. “The 2024 Republican nomination question was supposed to be: Could anyone harpoon the Great Orange Whale? Who knew that he would harpoon himself, repeatedly? Or that DeSantis, playing Captain Ahab, would pay Trump the sincerest form of flattery by imitating his persona as an unhappy warrior?” Will wrote in a Washington Post column.

Having previously been touted as the GOP's next presidential hopeful, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' White House bid has been floundering over the past few months, with even Republican figures casting doubt on the future of his campaign. DeSantis's unfavorable rating among potential voters has been steadily rising since late March, when he recorded a split 39.3 percent favorable rating. This includes the time after he confirmed his 2024 bid in late May in an error-strewn Twitter Space online announcement.

Former New York state Democrat Sen. Alessandra Biaggi took to social media Friday to discuss the pricey student loans she had amassed during law school, despite purchasing a $1.14 million home last summer. "In 2012, I graduated from Fordham Law School with $180,000 is student loan debt," Biaggi wrote in a tweet. "I’ve been paying loans for 11 years. Even paid two of them off completely." "In 2023, my balance is $206,000," added Biaggi, who represented New York's 34th district during her three-year tenure in the state Senate.

Windows 10 just loves to create Log files. Those take up space on hard drive. In 28 years of using Windows, I never have found any use for these log files. May be Bill Gates looks at them from your PC. To me they are totally useless, taking up space and slowing down my PC by few micro-seconds for each access. I created this program to delete every one of those log files. Simply double click on the shortcut Logs-Del on your main desktop window and the program does the rest. This program deletes only LOG files, nothing else. Create...

The office of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis acknowledged on Wednesday the state has in its possession a golf simulator that reportedly was given to the governor’s mansion by a wealthy political donor with close ties to the Republican governor. The Washington Post and Reuters reported Wednesday that Mori Hosseini, a Florida developer and longtime GOP donor in the state, had lent a golf simulator to the governor’s mansion in 2019. Asked about the reports, DeSantis spokesman Jeremy Redfern referred CNN to a statement he issued to the Post which did not dispute the source of the simulator.

Ron DeSantis’s bid for the Republican presidential nomination was already faltering even before he formally entered the fray on Wednesday in a much-touted launch on Twitter Spaces. As The New York Times noted, DeSantis “has struggled in recent polling, receiving an average across polls of around 20 percent among Republicans, falling far short of former President Donald J. Trump’s roughly 50 percent. The gap between the two men has grown steadily over the past few months, as Mr. Trump’s share has increased and Mr. DeSantis has lost ground.” Unfortunately for DeSantis, his decision to take up Elon Musk’s suggestion of...

All told, the Republican presidential field might end up almost as large and divided as the one in 2016. Which is to say that the 2024 Republican primary is, at this stage, shaping up to be a retread of the one that catapulted Trump to the commanding heights of the American political system. Once again, it is clear that many Republican elites would prefer to have someone other than Trump at the top of the ticket. But once again, those elites — donors, intellectuals, activists — are having a hard time finding a single alternative candidate to challenge the former...

No deal yet: House Speaker Kevin McCarthy told Republicans during a closed-door meeting Tuesday that they’re "nowhere near" a bipartisan deal with President Joe Biden, according to sources. 52 min ago Republican negotiators say "significant gap" remains on debt ceiling talks From CNN's Kristin Wilson, Haley Talbot, Nicky Robertson and Morgan Rimmer After another day of negotiations on Capitol Hill, there is still a "significant gap" between House Republicans and the White House on how to resolve the looming debt ceiling deadline, according to the GOP negotiators. Reps. Garret Graves and Patrick McHenry said that until the president and the...

Ben Werschkul·Washington Correspondent The support on Capitol Hill for what was once a fringe legal theory is growing by the hour as the debt ceiling talks head into their final days. On Thursday, a group of of 11 progressive senators led by Sens. Tina Smith (D-MN), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) released a new letter to President Biden calling on him to prepare to cancel the debt ceiling by invoking the 14th amendment. The increased adoption of an idea that could roil markets is a reflection of growing Democratic anxieties that the White House could be preparing for...

Hours after Joe Biden announced his re-election campaign on Tuesday, his vice-president and 2024 running mate, Kamala Harris, delivered a fiery call to action for voters alarmed by the loss of constitutional protections for abortion. “This is a moment for us to stand and fight,” she said to a packed auditorium at Howard University.....

As inflation continues to squeeze Americans, some are turning to buy now, pay later (BNPL) options to scrape by. A new LendingTree survey shows about 46% of consumers used BNPL this year. That’s up from 43% a year ago and 31% in 2021. While many consumer goods retailers, both online and brick and mortar, are providing these services to generate revenue, it’s a "bad outcome" for consumers’ balance sheet, O’Leary Ventures Chairman Kevin O’Leary warned. "This is not new. This is late-cycle consumer activity and debt starts to flare up, and of course, if you extend it on credit cards,...

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis made a trip to Washington, DC this week in a bid to rally congressional support. That trip, however, was overshadowed by another development: former President Donald Trump picking up a parade of new endorsements, including those of several lawmakers from DeSantis’s own state. As of Wednesday, Trump has locked down seven endorsements of 20 Florida House Republicans, compared to one that DeSantis has secured. Reps. John Rutherford, Brian Mast, and Greg Steube all announced this week that they were backing Trump in the presidential race, while Rep. Laurel Lee announced that she would be supporting DeSantis....

Is Ukraine winning? Is Russia winning? What exactly are the battlelines and how have they changed? The answers are murky at best, though it’s at least clear that Russia’s initial gambit hasn’t gone to plan. The word “stalemate” comes to mind given the stagnation on the eastern front of the war, where most of the fighting has occurred. That could change in the spring, as both sides have promised coming offensives. Regardless, what’s not in question is that Americans have been incredibly generous in the amount of money and war materials that have been given to Ukraine to help them...

North Korea launched a long-range ballistic missile into the sea off Japan's west coast on Saturday afternoon after warning of a strong response to upcoming military drills by South Korea and the United States. "The surprise ICBM launching drill ... is an actual proof of the DPRK strategic nuclear force's consistent efforts to turn its capacity of fatal nuclear counterattack on the hostile forces into the irresistible one," the state news agency KCNA said, using the abbreviation for the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The state news agency said the missile had flown for 1 hour,...
