Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel pledged her party would work with President Joe Biden if they win control of Congress in the midterm elections just two days away. Speaking to CNN's State of the Union on Sunday, McDaniel also refuted questions about GOP-driven election denialism by referencing times that Democrats like Hillary Clinton and Stacey Abrams have also doubted the legitimacy of US races. Looking ahead to 2024's election, McDaniel refused to say whether Donald Trump is readying to announce his candidacy for the White House - but gave a clear answer when asked whether the RNC would continue...

The United States has launched what it says are defensive airstrikes against Iran-backed militias along the Iraq-Syria border. Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said the 'precision' strikes had been launched on Sunday evening. Two targets were attacked in Syria, with a third also bombed in Iraq. Kirby added that multiple Iran-backed milita groups including Kata'ib Hezbollah (KH) and Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS) had been targeted. Kirby said the targets had been chosen because they had previously launched drone strikes against US personnel and bases in Iraq. It is unclear if anyone was injured or killed in those strikes. Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin has tested positive for coronavirus after being exposed to someone with the virus earlier this week, according to his spokesman, making him the third GOP senator to test positive in 24 hours and threatening the quick confirmation prospects of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Johnson did not attend the Barrett nomination ceremony — where several people appeared to have been exposed to the virus — because he was quarantining from a prior exposure, during which he twice tested negative for the virus, according to the spokesman. Unlike Democratic senators, Senate Republicans...

Wisconsin likely won't have results in the presidential race on election night and municipal clerks say that's largely because state lawmakers won't let them get a head start on counting an expected flood of absentee ballots. Clerks from both parties for years have pushed for a change in state law that would allow them to start counting at least some absentee ballots before Election Day. They see the issue especially pressing now that voters are turning to absentee voting in unprecedented numbers because of the coronavirus pandemic. Clerks can begin counting absentee ballots starting at 7 a.m. on Nov. 3,...

More people have a negative view of pro sports than a positive one, as public support for America’s athletics industry plummeted amid the coronavirus pandemic and athletes’ backing of the Black Lives Matter movement, a new survey released Monday reveals. Americans who have a positive view of sports dropped from 45 percent positive in August 2019 to 30 percent last month, the Gallup poll found. The number of citizens who had a negative view shot up from 25 percent last year to 40 percent in August 2020. That’s a shift of 30 points — from a plus 20 percent positive...
