Something hit me as I was driving to work this morning. I was listening to Greg Laurie on the car radio and he was talking about the apostles and the extreme persecution that they were subjected to because of their steadfast stand for their faith. It made me cry when Greg spoke of some of the horrendous things that happened to them and how they stood strong in their faith until the very end. The Bible said that in the end times that many will be persecuted for their faith and there have been an enormous number of Christians of...

With all of the disturbing news that we as a country have been constantly bombarded with, I have pretty much kept my opinions to myself, but, I’m going to let it fly today!! It seems that everywhere we look there is some type of debauchery, violence or just outright vulgarity and disrespect and I am so sick of it!! The ways that people find to abuse, mistreat and use other human beings and animals too, now that I’m at it, for their own selfish means, never ceases to amaze me!! When our society began this steep decline in basic civility...

It is time for us to show what we are made of. But, how can we do that? Suppose several thousand patriots, and their families, showed up near the Mexican border, somewhere in Arizona, for a weekend of Fun, Music, Games, Shooting, Hiking, Camping and, good old fashioned Comradery. Would this event be newsworthy? Perhaps approaching that of Woodstock, back in 1969? Would it send a message to the government that, "If you won't protect our borders, then, we will"? Riflestock is not intended to be a border operation, itself, though the ability to see the damage done, take pictures...

YAY!!!! Free Republic is finally working correctly on my end after driving me nuts for weeks! I thought that getting my new Mac would help and it didn't at all.The home page finally has pictures again and pages load quickly (versus excrutiatingly slow page loads)! I am so happy! I was just about fed up enough to abandon FR and go back to Lucianne (which led me here to start with 10 years ago)! Thanks to whomever fixed FR!!

Members of Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church reportedly will be in Johnson City on Monday to picket near the memorial service for Airman Benjamin D. White, an Erwin resident who died last week in Afghanistan. "Military funerals have become pagan orgies of idolatrous blasphemy where they pray to the dunghill gods of Sodom and play taps to a fallen fool," states a Westboro flier forwarded to media outlets by the Unicoi County Sheriff's Office. The flier goes on to say that the "message will be preached in respectful, lawful proximity" to White's memorial service at Grace Fellowship Church on South Greenwood...

Please pray for my family. We got very bad news today. We found out today that my 69 year old mother is in very serious condition. She had to have a mastectomy 2 years ago because of breast cancer. We were told that it was in her lymph nodes and she went through all of the recommended chemo and radiation. Everything looked good as far as the cancer was concerned. She seemed to be doing well. Last year on election day she had a mild stroke. Apparently, the chemo had damaged her heart which resulted in a stroke. She has...

I absolutely despise liberals and their accursed E.P.A. I have really severe allergies and asthma. Because of the libs and their stupid environmental regulations I can no longer get some of the medicines that I need to control my symptoms. One of my medicines (Beconase aerosol) was completely removed from the market and the other (Albuterol) has had the propellant changed so, therefore, it is no longer available as a generic. What used to be a reasonably priced medicine has gone up dramatically in price and the insurance co-pay is 5 times what is was just since December. Thank you...

BRISTOL, Tenn. — Exide Technologies will lay off 567 employees at its Bristol plant — nearly 70 percent of its current work force there — starting May 1. Company official Bruce Cole said Wednesday the layoffs are “indefinite,” but they “hope for an improvement in the marketplace that may allow us to put people back to work at our Bristol facility.” Opened in 1994, Exide’s Bristol plant is a manufacturing and distribution center of lead-acid batteries used in the automotive, marine and specialty industries. The plant currently employs 817 people, and the layoffs will affect both hourly and salaried workers....

Don't Be a (Knee) Jerk With the left wing trying to use anything that they can wrap their tentacles around to use against conservatives, we need to be extra diligent to keep a civil demeanor about ourselves and to conduct ourselves in a manner that does not bring reproach down upon ourselves. Free Republic is a gathering place for conservatives who love our country and believe that liberalism is a scourge upon our society and that if not kept in check will ultimately destroy this great nation that so many of our forbears have sacrificed their very lives to build....

A 23-year-old transient was sentenced to 10 days in County Jail on Wednesday for catching and cooking a federally protected steelhead trout from San Luis Obispo Creek. Victor Manuel Silva was convicted of illegally taking and possessing wildlife. Wildlife officials said the poaching was a blow to the species because the fish was an egg-carrying female that was killed before she had a chance to spawn. Her eggs were strewn along the banks of the creek. A homeless man was sentenced to 10 days for cooking this steelhead. CLICK FOR MORE PHOTOS Poll: What do you think of criminally charging...

We just saw Barack Obama win the Presidential election. Before I begin analyzing the President-elect's Administration, I want to make a point. Congratulations Senator. You have gotten many people involved in the political process, and have run a great campaign. Congrats. While I find it necessary to congratulate the President-elect, I must not hinder myself from analyzing him, and the administration of his that is yet to come. After his victory speech to an extremely large crowd, the President-elect has left us to wonder what ways the political winds will blow in his administration. Will it be an extreme Liberal...

I am getting really sick of the Mexican Invasion costing so many jobs in the Southwest Virginia- East Tennessee area. My husband is a brickmason. He is the 5th generation mason in his family- our son is the 6th. Up until just a couple of years ago brickmasons had contractors ringing their phones off of the wall wanting them to do work for them. My husband had to turn down dozens of callers because he couldn't do it all. Things have sure changed . Now, a lot of contractors in this area have gotten dollar signs in their eyes and...

My aunt who has been a champion dog breeder for 50 years just had the Washington Co. VA animal control (acting on an anonymous tip) swoop down on her like she's some kind of criminal. She went to court yesterday because all of her dogs were confiscated. They charged her with inhumane treatment and animal neglect. All that the judge said she was guilty of was not keeping her animals absolutely clean. She's 76 years old. They were well-fed,healthy and all of their vaccinations were up to date.I heard on the radio today that animal control was giving them all...

I may not always agree with President Bush, but, then who do I always agree with? I believe that we have the right president for the right time. This country needs a man to lead us that is strong enough in his convictions to do what is necessary to protect our citizens from those whose life's ambition is to take our very lives away. I have grown very weary of the whiny attitudes of so many people complaining about high gas prices and such. People this is WAR. Have you forgotten what this war is about? Do you remember our...
