Unless lots of Democrats vote in the Republican primary in an attempt to set things up for Democrat victory in the general election, Cornyn should easily win. Most Texas Republicans, such as me, likely wish Cornyn was more like Cruz, but do not want to be represented by a clown like Stockman.

“Willie, your lot in life is the cover other artists` songs... and smoke pot.”

You are truly dumber than a brass-headed monkey. Willie did not get into the Songwriters Hall of Fame by covering other artist’s songs. If he had never written anything other than Crazy, Forgiving You Was Easy, or Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, he would deserve our highest praise and thanks.

“I never understood this guy’s rise in the country music scene and how he hasn’t been the receipient long before now of the same kind of treatment the Dixie(Ditsy) Chicks received.

Being a dope smoking leftist isn’t exactly a good fit among alot of country music fans, atleast the overwelming number I’ve known.”

His rise and staying power are easy to understand. He has had some great recordings. He sounds terrible live, but much of his recorded music is fantastic. That’s true in spades for his recordings as one of The Highwaymen and in duets with Waylon. In addition to that, he seems like a really nice guy who is not at all full of himself, regardless of what he smokes or what he thinks about guns.

It’s absurd statements like that that make it difficult to persuade independents to become conservatives.

What about the argument that the folks leaving Ohio have been white,middle-class folks who would likely vote Republican and the folks staying have often been poorer African Americans who will likely vote Democratic? It’s an argument that worries me.

It’s hard to see how Johnson could be a spoiler in New Mexico. Almost everyone predicts that Obama will take New Mexico. How can Johnson change that? Doesn’t Johnson get only voters that would otherwise either vote for Romney or stay home?

I continue to believe that Gallup has been setting us up. The threats from the Obama campaign have worked. I simply have no faith in Gallup. Gallup wants to help the MSM start an “Obama the Comeback Kid” attempt at creating a bandwagon effect.

I agree that it is close, and Romney/Ryan could easily lose this thing.

    However, for that to happen:

    (1) Gallup would have to be very far off the mark;
    (2) Rasmussen’s swing state poll would have to be pretty far off the mark;
    (3) All the talk about anti-Obama voters being much more enthusiastic than pro-Obama voters would have to be wrong; and
    (4) All the talk about independents strongly favoring Obama would likely have to be wrong.

All of those things could be true, and that’s a great reason to be worried. Still, I would rather have Romney’s hand than have Obama’s hand at this point.

Wisconsin is traditionally a very liberal state. I know that as a libertarian/conservative, I would not vote for a Democratic ticket, even if both the presidential nominee and the vice-presidential candidates were from my home state. I’m sure the Wisconsin lefties feel the same way about a Republican ticket.

Still, Gov. Walker’s victory, together with Ryan being from the state, gives me hope for a big Republican turnout in Wisconsin.

Romney can lose Ohio and still win, especially if the reason he loses Ohio is the GM bailout. He could, for example, win in New Hampshire, Nevada, and Iowa (I asume the GM bailout is not such a big deal in those states, but I don’t know); and those states, together with the states he looks good in today, would put him over 270 EVs.

Also, if Romney takes Wisconsin (Ryan’s home state), then he needs only one of those other three states to put him over.

If Romney takes Michigan, he would not need any of those other four states to win without Ohio.

Lastly, if Rasmussen is any where near correct in his swing state polling, it seems likely Romney wins.

It’s pretty hard to imagine Romney winning the popular vote by a decent margin and still losing the election.

“How do you know Gallup is using a “current heavy weighting of Republicans?”
    Just asking...”

I don’t know. It is just a guess based on (1) the fact that Gallup is alone in seeing such strong support for Romney, (2) we know from news stories that Gallup has being doing some late-cycle tweaking of its methodology (although admittedly those stories focused on the likelihood that the changes favored Obama), and (3) we know that the Obama folks have put tremendous pressure on Gallup, including the Justice Department’s filing of a lawsuit against Gallup.

We are being set up. We are being set up. We are being set up. If I’m wrong I’ll gladly eat my hat, but hold the salt and pepper for now.

Gallup will use something (the third debate, Gloria Allred’s October surprise, Obama’s “fantastic” new agreement with Iran or his decision to launch a drone strike in Libya, or something) as an excuse to change methodology from its current heavy weighting of Republicans. Then the numbers will start to move strongly in Obama’s favor and the MSM can try to create a bandwagon effect by promoting the “Greatest Comeback in American History.”

Pollsters and the MSM have no shame.

You folks on this thread are nuts. Romney may be ever so slightly ahead now, but nothing like Gallup is showing.
Gallup has been totally cowed by threats from the Administration. We are being set up for claims that Obama makes the biggest comeback in history.

Gallup’s results will start moving sharply in the other direction (probably by returning to its earlier, heavier Democratic weighting) to make it look like Obama is moving up rapidly. Forewarned is forearmed.

Hope that Romney will win may be helping to hold the market too high. The Fed’s printing press is no doubt also juicing the market. The Piper will have his due, and when Romney wins or soon thereafter may be when he takes what’s due.

Some of you anti-Romney folks are really sore losers. In that department, you put even Al Gore to shame.

You couldn’t hack it by finding a decent candidate to run against Romney, and now you want to blame everyone else for your own failure. And in that department, you put even Obama to shame.

“I’m voting for Ryan and that other guy.”

Well, I certainly am enthusiastic about having Ryan on the ticket, but I also think Romney is far superior to Obama.

If I were going to make a statement somewhat like yours, I might say; “I’m voting for the guys who are in the same party with, and are supported by, Gov. Susana Martinez.”

Not to take anything away from Ryan’s speach, but I thought the Martinez speech was near perfect.

“Ryan’s selection has HUGELY energized the Conservative voter base and even strongly swung “swing voters” in favor of Romney/Ryan.”

Well, Maybe. However, Palin energized the whoha outta conservatives. Heck, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven; but then on election day I was sure I’d died and gone to hell.

The MSM will do everything in its power to drag Zero over the line ahead of Romney, and lots of voters still think the color of Obama’s skin is the most important consideration in the race. It will take lots of work and money for Romney/Ryan to make a race out of this thing.
