The guests at Sunday evening's black tie White House dinner for the nation's governors feasted on servings of Chesapeake crab agnolottis, wagyu beef, Nantucket scallops and huckleberry cobbler for dessert. But thanks to First Lady Michelle Obama, a bit more of the day-to-day eating habits of the new family living at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave has been learned. "There are some mean waffles and grits that are made in the morning that have become a regular staple for some of us," Obama said. But she didn't reveal exactly for who that breakfast pairing has become a morning favorite. Though she was...

But I checked and the FR site was up.I think the problem is simply that FR is busy and I, on dial-up, just can't get through before the connection times out. I get this error: But I want to make sure there is not something else going on, such as being blocked or something for some reason.Any comments you might have about access problems to FR, especially on dial-up, are greatly appreciated. CLIMATE CHANGE PARADOX Wind Turbines in Europe Do Nothing for Emissions-Reduction Goals By Anselm Waldermann Despite Europe's boom in solar and wind energy, CO2 emissions haven't been reduced by even a single gram. Now, even the Green Party is taking a new look at the issue -- as shown in e-mails obtained by SPIEGEL ONLINE. Germany's renewable energy companies are a tremendous success story. Roughly 15 percent of the country's electricity comes from solar, wind or biomass facilities, almost 250,000 jobs have been created and the net worth of the business is €35 billion per year. The Republicans often aren't very good at explaining basic economic principles to listeners who might be able to help combat these socialist takeovers. Today, Stephie actually asked Michael Steele a good question that, if answered properly, could illuminate a lot of Americans and help erode support for government bailouts and debt. The question is: Why aren't government jobs good economic stimulus, whereas private sector jobs are GREAT economic stimulus? Steele gave some marginal answer, it was OK and forgettable. The answer is that government jobs do NOT create the wealth that powers the economy, government takes wealth out of the...

I sent a brief letter to my Virginia senators asking them to kill the stimulus bill and start over from scratch so they don't bankrupt not only this generation but that of my grandchildren, thank you very much. Below is the email I received in response. So far, this is the only response from 2 senators and 1 representative, all Democrats. Thank you for contacting me with your views on the economic stimulus package. In order to best represent you as your United States Senator, it is vital that I hear your view on this and other important matters. We...

PROPOSED: The US will invest 1 Trillion Dollars (One Thousand Billion Dollars) to end the recession by stimulating the economy.

These different approaches will be implemented at the same time and we can measurably compare which plan makes the economy improve the fastest. We won't have all our eggs in one basket and we will know for future reference which approach better stimulates the economy, spending or tax cuts. If a combination of the two works best, great. We will know for sure.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) on Wednesday called on American Muslims to thank the Fox television network and the creator of "The Simpsons" for a recent episode that used comedy to challenge Islamophobia. The episode, which aired Sunday evening and is titled "Mypods and Boomsticks," highlights anti-Muslim sentiment by featuring a young Muslim character named Bashir and his family who face prejudice after moving to Springfield. In the program, Homer Simpson wrongly suspects that Bashir's family is involved in a terrorist plot. Bart Simpson befriends Bashir and defends him from bullies. CAIR's Greater Los Angeles Area office (CAIR-LA) sent...

Should some of the same people who helped get us into this Wall Street meltdown mess be relied upon to get us out? President-elect Obama seems to think that the answers to those two questions are “yes,” and “yes”—and his appointments today proved it. Tim Geithner, the pick to be the next Treasury Secretary, is the current president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he was intimately involved in all the bailout decisions of...
