  • How will Fred get 50,000 Friends by Friday (Jan 11)

I notice that Fred has a goal of $500,000 and 50,000 new friends by this Friday. The $$$ seems doable but the friends goal is a mystery to me. They are only at about 2,500 now. Aside from all of the other questions about Fred's candidacy, how will he reach this goal of 50,000 friends? I signed up my wife yesterday, so she's already in the Friend number. Most people I know here in NJ love Obama. Any thoughts, strategies, on how to help? I'm trying to brainstorm here, and I assume that Fred wants new people in this 50,000...

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll Friday, November 9th [SNIP] The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows Mike Huckabee back in single digits and Ron Paul gaining another percentage point of support in the very unsettled race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. Rudy Giuliani remains on top with 23% support from Likely Republican Primary voters nationwide. Fred Thompson earns 16% of the vote followed by John McCain at 13% and Mitt Romney at 11%. Mike Huckabee is now the top pick for 9% while Ron Paul’s support has inched up to 6%. No other Republican tops 1% (see recent...
  • The Multitudinous Proliferation of Car Ribbon Magnets Thread (Vanity)

OK, I was out and about today and I saw a typical yellow ribbon magnet on the rear of an SUV. However, when I looked closer, it had wording in it which said "Bring the Troops Home". Next to it was a blue ribbon magnet which said "Peace". I was wondering if people could please post here pictures of all of the ribbon-type magnets they've seen on cars, because I'm losing my mind keeping track of them. Also, what was the first "yellow-ribbon" type magnet, and when did it appear? Lastly, when you post your ribbon magnet picture, if you...
  • Looking for War on Terror/US-Friendly Computer Games (Vanity)

I know this is a very unserious topic, but I have been looking for a War on Terror/US friendly computer game. I have played "America's Army", but that doesn't really have a plot. I have been a fan of the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series, but I have been REALLY PISSED OFF that Team Rainbow is presented as an arm of the United Nations. Also, frequently enough, the terrorists are neo-Nazis rather than islamofascists. I'm also annoyed at having the option of choosing Europeans from France, Germany or other Iraq-war wimps for my anti-terror forces (though I have sometimes enjoyed...
  • Political Books I got from Liberal Relatives this XMas (add your own! - Vanity)

In selecting gifts for my relatives, to my knowledge of which are all liberal to some degree (all the way from older RINO upper class types - i.e. who did not like Reagan, nor any other recent presidents besides Ford and the First Bush) to birkenstock-wearing manic-depressive postgraduates who seem to flirt with anarchy. I am a book lover and in giving books to these people I was very careful not to give them books on political topics. Pre-1900 American history seems to have been a good way to give a quality gift that they have seemed to appreciate. What...
  • Pol wants police to ban Ford cruisers

    NY Daily News ^ | December 26, 2002 | News Wire Services
Police agencies throughout New York should immediately suspend purchases of Ford Crown Victorias for use as cruisers amid renewed safety concerns, a state senator said this week. Last Thursday's death of State Trooper Robert Ambrose in a fiery crash on the state Thruway in Yonkers once again raises questions about the safety of the Crown Victorias when they are hit by another vehicle from behind at high speeds, State Sen. Nicholas Spano said. "It's a death that should have been prevented, and that's why I am calling on the state of New York to impose an immediate moratorium...
  • Question for Current or Former US Marines or Anyone in a Similar Frame of Mind Re Raising Kids

I currently have two kids, a girl and a boy ages four and two, and would be interested in raising them as prospective US Marines. I realize this sounds crazy. Please let me elaborate. I see the war with Islam going on for a generation or more. Unfortunately, I do see this as a war with Islam as it currently exists. I feel that this war may require greater participation and manpower than is currently anticipated, draft or no draft. I have no interest in forcing my kids to become anything, but I would like to train them in such...
  • Question About Rush Limbaugh for those who have listened to him longer than I have

I have listened to Rush Limbaugh on and off for about three years now. Has he ever stated whether he considers himself to be a Christian? I know he says "talent on loan from God", but that could be like a theistic statement. I wouldn't enjoy him any less if he wasn't. However, has he ever said anything about the subject? I get the sense that he is not a Christian but is very respectful of people who are. I thought about this after reading another thread about Bill O'Reilly inquiring about what his religious philosophy might be.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hester Patrick has been married for five years but she has never hugged or kissed her husband, or even touched him. She may never do those things because Jesse Patrick is on death row in Texas with a September 17 execution date. The 47-year-old British stage designer may have an unconventional marriage but she is far from unique. Although there are no statistics, authorities in several states say it is not unusual for men on death row to marry, often to women from Europe. According to Death Penalty News, a newsletter published by death penalty foes, 10...
  • Is it the Summer, or Decade, of Our Discontent?

We are going to be able to call this year…it’s 2002..the summer of our discontent. We are examining some of the most basic precepts of American business: globalization; individual responsibility; shareholder activism; equity participation, by everyone; and, yes, even the very integrity of global capitalism itself. All of this is taking place at a time in which debt ratios, to almost everything, are at their highest levels in recorded recent history. Well, I have a hunch. My hunch is that if this market decline which we have experienced, really in the last two years, is no more or less than...
  • Please help Freep for Ann Coulter's new book

I love Ann Coulter (in an ideological sense), and have not yet read her book, though I am ordering it now. Thank God she is so beautiful. Not that it matters to her argument, but it's so nice to have such a gorgeous conservative. She's my personal Joan of Arc. Something is bugging me a lot right now. Check out amazon, on the page listing Ann's book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/books/1400046610/customer-reviews/qid=1026842352/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-9217160-9237711 Both of Amazon's "spotlight reviews" are pans of the book from liberal hatemongers (see the 1 star reviews). This is even though out of 366 reviews the average is 4 stars. This...
  • Can anyone recommend an automobile to survive an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) attack?

Can anyone here recommend a particular model of auto that should theoretically be able to survive an Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) attack? I am assuming in this case that the car would be far away from the nuclear explosion to not be affected by direct blast damage. If you could mention a particular model and model year, and any other things you would note about why this car would run in the period following the attack. I prefer more modern cars that I can actually afford, as opposed to Model T's. Also, does anyone know of body shops that can "harden"...
  • Help! My Wife is Addicted to ICQ Chat! (Vanity)

My wife recently discovered ICQ chat and has been using it for about a month. She spends something like 4 hours a day on it (obviously, mostly in the late evening after the kids are in bed). She spends a lot of time giggling to herself over the funny things people say. I know the chat is not sexual because I am right by her and she often tells me verbatim what she is typing to people (which drives me crazy if I am trying to read). Anyway, does anyone else out there have a partner addicted to chat like...
  • Rant About Star Trek: Enterprise That Does Probably Not Belong Here

Reve BM, Editorial, rant | March 13, 2001 | Reve BM
Okay, let me first off say that I am a big fan of the newest Star Trek series, Enterprise. I thought that the last series, Voyager, had gotten tired and had too many episodes revolving around the masturbatory holodeck. And, don't even get me started on the series before that, Deep Space 9, with its "angry pissed-off black man in space" theme. The new Enterprise series has a freshness about it not seen in my opinion since the original series of 1967-69, what with the swashbuckling Captain Kirk. A good slice of the new series' appeal for me is its...

I'm trying to get some of the best war movies on DVD to show to my kids someday, when they are older. So far here's what I have in my collection: Gladiator (OK - not technically a war movie) Braveheart Henry V (Kenneth Branagh version) Glory Tora! Tora! Tora! Patton Saving Private Ryan Here are some ones I want to get when they come out on DVD: Behind Enemy Lines (OK, I thought the ending was goofy but I thought it was good in capturing the atmosphere of Yugoslavia) Black Hawk Down We Were Soldiers Can some people please add ...

I've been unemployed from a full time job for almost 2 years now. I did do some temp work this year for 3 months, and enjoyed it. Would have continued with the temp assignment if there hadn't been layoffs at that company and the assignment was cancelled. I am married with two kids, ages three and one. My kids are great and healthy. When I lost my full-time job last year, I moved cross-country to move in with my parents. I'm an only child, and the house is pretty big. My parents treat me really well. Around August my wife ...

I have been a member of the Free Republic community for about a year. I don't know what the future holds, but as I look at my family and at the future (say the next fifty years), I think there's a fair likelihood that someone I know may die in a terrorist attack (or in a related conflict). First of all, I am at peace with God whatever happens. However, secondly, I want to emphasize what a treasure it is to belong to a community of people who have their eyes open about the world. Like many people living in ...
  • German General Fears a Bloodbath

THE head of the German equivalent of the SAS has angered senior Nato officers by predicting a "bloodbath" if special forces from allied nations move into Afghanistan to try to hunt down Osama bin Laden. In a deliberate call for caution, Brig Gen Reinhard Gunzel, who commands the elite Kommando Spezialkrafte (KSK), said success would be "almost impossible" without severe and unacceptable losses to his special troops and those of other allied nations. Even if such a combined force did find bin Laden, this would not mean victory, he said. "Behind him stand so many fanatic followers that another one ...
