BOULDER -- The "adverse possession" case through which retired Boulder judge Richard McLean was able to grab a swath of land on a neighbor's vacant lot triggering cries of protest by people who don't know any parties involved is not the first time a former Boulder judge has used the law against a neighbor. Former Boulder County Judge Marsha Yeager, whose tenure on the Boulder County bench overlapped that of McLean, filed a successful "adverse possession" case against her neighbor in 2002. --snip-- In Yeager's case, she filed suit against the family of Cosima Krueger-Cunningham, to settle ownership of a...

Barry M. Goldwater, Jr. endorsed Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul for president. “America is at a crossroads,” said Mr. Goldwater. “We have begun to stray from our traditions and must get back to what has made us the greatest nation on earth or we will lose much of the freedom we hold dear. Ron Paul stands above all of the other candidates in his commitment to liberty and to America.” “Leading America is difficult, and I know Ron Paul is the man for the job,” he added.

My wife and I attended the Ron Paul Independence Mall rally on Saturday. Although the weather was less than ideal for an outdoor rally that began in the early afternoon, the crowd’s enthusiasm made up for the cool, overcast conditions. Paulites from as far as New Hampshire were in attendance. Before the rally, Rep. Paul spoke to at least 200 members of the Philadelphia meetup group and then held a briefing for about 100 donors who contributed at least $500 per person. Although Dr. Paul had been up since 5:00am to catch his flight from New Hampshire, he was alert,...

WASHINGTON — To put it bluntly, Texas wants President Bush to get out of the way of the state's plan to execute a Mexican for the brutal killing of two teenage girls. Bush, who presided over 152 executions as governor of Texas, wants to halt the execution of Jose Ernesto Medellin in what has become a confusing test of presidential power that the Supreme Court ultimately will sort out. This undated photo released by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice shows death row inmate Jose Ernesto Medellin. Texas wants President Bush to get out of the way of the state's...

Wesley J. Smith blogs about the recommended guidelines adopted by a Bioethics think tank in Great Britain in light of the British Medical Society's coming out in favor of euthanizing disabled newborns. The good thing is that the think tank disagrees with the concept of euthanizing newborns. The bad part is this: "The Council also suggested that infants born at 22 weeks gestation or earlier not be given intensive care unless as part of medical experiments. At age 23 weeks, it urges that no intensive care be given unless insisted upon by the parents and doctors agree. At 24 weeks...

Do any of you Texas Freepers know any pro-life Texas attorneys who would be willing to participate in a group that helps families against hospitals that want to withdraw life-sustaining treatment against the wishes of the family and patient? Most of these families have little money and some or all of the work would be pro bono. The issue has to do with the Texas Futile Care Statute. The physicians are, sometimes, wanting to withdraw treatment for quality of life reasons rather than purely medical. I hope I did this announcement correctly.

William J. Hetherington has been incarcerated in Michigan prisons for more than 20 years for having sex with his wife Linda. In 1986, he became the first man in Genesee County convicted of the new Michigan crime called spousal rape. Linda was not a battered wife; she testified at the trial that he had never beaten her in their 16 years of marriage. Hetherington was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force, received a National Defense Service Medal, and had no police record of any sort. The sentencing guideline for this new offense was 12 months to 10 years. But,...

Jack Abramoff was a Republican lobbyist. In fact, he has become the media’s archetype for an evil, greedy, Republican super-lobbyist. So I ask you this: In this politically charged environment, and caught in a scandal, who would you get for a lawyer if you were Jack Abramoff? The answer of who he got will shock you:

My friend, Mychal Massie, has invited me to host his talk radio show Straight Talk on Right Talk Radio tomorrow, Tuesday, January 3, 2005 beginning at 1 pm E.T. You can tune in by going here and clicking on the button that says Straight Talk. It will replay every hour for the remainder of the day. Because I am on this subject of the movie, Brokeback Mountain, I’ve asked David Kupelian to be my guest and he has accepted. He wrote the article, Brokeback Mountain: Rape of the Marlboro Man, that I referred to in this post. He has a...

Mychal Massie has, once again, invited me to guest host his weekly show, Straight Talk on Right Talk Radio. The show airs live on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at 1 pm et. He is the author of six bestselling novels including...

Captain Ed points us to the WPo editorial questioning Earle's prosecution of Delay. However Byron York is reporting something ignored by WaPo that is much worse Ronnie Earle participated in the making of a movie about the Delay case that began production two years ago: For the last two years, as he pursued the investigation that led to Wednesday's indictment of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, Travis County, Texas prosecutor Ronnie Earle has given a film crew "extraordinary access" to make a motion picture about his work on the case. The resulting film is called The Big Buy, made by...

With regard to Clinton's criticisms of Bush over Katrina, why are we so surprised that Clinton would act like an ungrateful child towards the Administration after the President give Clinton a primo opportunity for face time by making him in charge of some aspects of Katrina relief with Bush I? Did we really expect that a serial philanderer would exhibit any modicum of loyalty? Especially when his self-interest is involved? After all, if Hilary gets into office as President, Bill will be right there. We shouldn't be surprised. He's a hypocrite. But, I didn't understand the depths of his hypocrisy...

The linked article concerns the reports of refugee crime in New Orleans. I had supposed that would cease when the refugees were brought out and put in proper shelters. Silly me. My daughter and her husband live essentially across the street from the Astrodome. She says the police sirens are virtually constant. I have heard from a Dallas policeman of the strain on Dallas police resources created by the refugees sent there. He spoke of riot conditions. It is my understanding we have received several thousand refugees here in San Antonio, but they are being placed in the Joe and...

Almost every disaster, I hear stories about how the "authorities" stymie efforts by volunteers to bring in food, water or ice. I'm not one who thinks that we should sit back and let the government do everything for us in a disaster. My position is strengthened by reading things like this from The Interdictor: Three days ago, police and national guard troops told citizens to head toward the Crescent City Connection Bridge to await transportation out of the area. The citizens trekked over to the Convention Center and waited for the buses which they were told would take them to...

With the rise of gasoline prices because of Katrina, I have been concerned that price controls would be instituted. I remember the 1970's and the long lines at the gas stations that resulted from government inteventions because of their adverse impact on supplies. Yesterday, I heard Michael Savage ranting in favor of gasoline price controls. I decided then to ask a person who knows more about oil than anyone else I know personally, my Father--who is also named Jerry Ward. Mr. Ward is a graduate of Texas A&M. He holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Petroleum Engineering. He has...

I went to Crawford, Texas yesterday for the opening of Fort Qualls and the "You Don't Speak For Me, Cindy" rally. It was a wonderful experience and I'll tell you about it here. When I arrived, I immediately found Bill Johnson and Gary Qualls who I interviewed on The Daley Report at Right Talk Radio this past Wednesday. I presented each with a CD of the program. Then I joined the rest of the crowd. I made the mistake of wearing a pink shirt--and somebody asked me if I was with Code Pink. So, I hustled into the Yellow Rose...

My paternal grandmother was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. One of my most enduring memories was of her taking me to the home of a fellow Baptist female missionary who had spent the 1940's and 1950's in India. This prim and proper spinster had an adopted son who was in college at the time I first met her in the mid 1960's. From where did her son come? Her son was born of an Indian woman who had taken him, a newborn, to the banks of the Ganges to be laid down so that...

Bush Pulls Top Security Agent From Fracas SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night. What the hell did those security officials think they were doing? I hope that President Bush carries his own piece when he goes to foreign countries. This very easily could have been a set up.

I discussed here how the MSM is making Kevin Sites its personal hero of Fallujah. WorldNetDaily.com has even more information on Sites--and it isn't pretty: Kevin Sites, the NBC cameraman who shot video of the controversial shooting of a Fallujah insurgent by a U.S. Marine, is an anti-war activist whose photographs of Iraqi prisoners are featured on at least one anti-war website.

John Miller over at NRO reminds us of his article written about Arlen Specter and published on September 1, 2003 which today is very timely and reminds us of who Arlen Specter is. During the Robert Bork confirmation hearings, Specter became a tool of the Democrats during the "borking" of Judge Bork. Says John: Specter doesn't regret a more famous vote that took place the following year, on the Supreme Court nomination of Robert Bork. This was a watershed moment in Washington politics, when left-wing histrionics began to play a leading role in judicial confirmations — and the term "borking"...
