A bus packed with Russian tourists overturned into a ravine near a popular Israeli resort town Tuesday, and rescue services said more than 20 people were killed and dozens injured. The crash took place on a desert road near Israel's southern tip, and TV footage showed that the bus had rolled down a slope into the ravine. The recent “member items” controversy (i.e., Albany legislators directing funds outside of the regular budget to community social service organizations) has spawned a series of shrill and unhelpful headlines in the New York Post. The practice is, to be sure, fair game for scrutiny and debate. But the Post seems hell-bent on creating the perception that the issue is a Jewish one. Dozens of people were injured in a collision between a truck and a passenger train that occurred by Kibbutz Revadim, near Yeruham Tuesday afternoon. The train was on its way from Tel Aviv to Beersheba when the collision occurred. As a result of the collision, the train was derailed and two cars were flipped over. Three of the wounded were in critical condition and were airlifted to Tel Hashomer Hospital in Petah Tikva. Over 100 passenegers received treatment on the scene. Egypt's parliament has approved a constitutional amendment that will allow presidential elections to be contested for the first time.
