In what may be our new Prime Minister's boldest move yet, he is changing his name to George W. Harper. People who keep track of these sorts of things say they cannot recall any other time in this nation's history when a sitting Prime Minister changed his name. Instances of politicians switching from one party to another are too numerous to mention, but the Prime Minister has really broken ground here by adopting a different moniker. It is said that Brian Mulroney briefly considered going by "Ronnie" at one point during his stint at 24 Sussex, but abandoned the idea...

ESR's Tenth Annual Person of the Year By Steven Martinovich web posted January 3, 2005 My memory is probably failing me but for the past four years I've started out each Person of the Year by writing "It wasn't even close." Well, this year, it wasn't even close. What changed were the results. U.S. President George W. Bush didn't win this year. Although the American president finished strongly in second spot, ahead of other worthy nominations which included the people of Iraq, the U.S. military, Pope John Paul II, Joe Leiberman, ESR scribe/presidential candidate/actor Michael Moriarty, Angela Merkel and Tom...

September 14, 2005 Daman Wayans: The Chickenhawk Meme -- Now X-rated! Angry in T.O. at 09:52 AM Related articles: Cosmos :: CanConv :: Blogging Tories Daman Wayans, alleged comedian, is repeating the chickenhawk meme, in which he would send his sons to fight in Iraq if George W Bush sends the twins. Put aside all the logic about all-volunteer armies and so forth. Daman Wayans adds a twist: That was funnyman Damon Wayans in Orlando the other day going nuclear on President Bush - and twins Jenna and Barbara - over the war in Iraq and the possible reinstatement of...

A coalition of civilian volunteers in the United States and Canada yesterday said it has begun the first stages in developing internationally supported citizen patrols along the U.S.-Canada border patterned after the Minuteman Project in April in Arizona. The American-Canadian Conservative Coalition, in concert with Minuteman Project organizer Chris Simcox, said it is preparing for its first vigil along the border in Michigan, south of Ontario, and is actively working to expand the watch to every state and province along the northern U.S. border. -snip-

Quebec rejects introduction of Sharia law into legal system in the province LES PERREAUX QUEBEC (CP) - While Ontario considers a move to allow Islamic law to help settle some family disputes, Quebec sent a clear message Thursday it will not permit Muslim tribunals. Quebec lawmakers from all parties voted unanimously in the legislature to reject the use of Islamic tribunals in the legal system. The vote was a pre-emptive strike to stop a growing movement among some Muslims to have the religion to play a role in family law. The member of the Quebec Liberal government who led the...

It's time for Canadians who truly love democracy to get off their butts and fight. There is a non-confidence motion in the house of commons today and if it passes then the government of Paul Martin will have to resign. As we know it, the liberals said that they will refuse to resign, I say that we the people go and demand the resignation of the government. I'm pretty sure that there will be media attention. Anyone with me??

Liberals and Conservatives tied in latest poll CTV.ca News Staff A new poll shows that if an election was held today, the Liberals and the Conservatives would be neck-and-neck in the race for national support. The numbers show a boost for the Liberals in the past week, indicating a recovery from bombshell news from the sponsorship inquiry. I was wondering if those who live in the Crawford area or know Conservative students at the university in Waco could do us Canadian conservatives a favour. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1361388/posts

I watched the Conservative Party of Canada convention and their adoption of resolution. First I saw them adopt the resolution on support for the traditional definition of marriage, I was happy. But then, they adopted a resolution that the Conservative Party will not support any abortion legislation, killing the chances of the party adopting a pro-life stance and my happiness turned into anger. You see everybody, my family used to be a supporter of the liberal party and it was these type of policies that caused my family and I to leave the party. What attracted me to the Conservative...

Clark Supports Martin's Decision on BMD Josh Pringle Friday, March 4, 2005 Joe Clark says former Prime Minister Paul Martin did the right thing when he decided Canada would say no to participation in the U-S missile defence program. The former Conservative Prime Minister says there are too many unanswered questions about the U-S plan. Clark compared Martin's decision on Missile Defence to one former Conservative prime minister Brian Mulroney had to make in 1985 when he rejected a U.S. proposal to have Canada take part in its Strategic Defence Initiative.

The Tide of Freedom Shakespeare's Brutus declares, "There is a tide in the affairs of men," and its meaning, when properly grasped, opens new chapters in human history. The abiding tide in human affairs is that of freedom, sometimes receding and at other times in full flood. It is in the wake of this tide beginning to swell in the Middle East that U.S. President George Bush arrived in Europe this week. Bush -- like Ronald Reagan, his political hero -- has shown an uncanny ability to grasp the meaning of freedom's tide in history and boldly "take the current...

QUEBEC (CP) - The Conservative party will launch a national advertising campaign this week, targeting Canadian ethnic groups with the party's stand against gay marriage. As Sikh and Roman Catholic leaders weighed in against redefining marriage laws to include homosexual relationships, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper said his party needs to send a clear pre-election message against changing the definition of marriage. "Frankly, we think a clear majority of Canadians support the compromise I put forward, including a lot of people who vote Liberal and traditionally don't vote for this party," Harper said after a speech to the Quebec City Chamber...
