In Florida, archaeologists are investigating a site that a century ago sparked a scientific controversy. Today, it's just a strip of land near an airport. But in 1915, it was a spot that became world-famous because of the work of Elias Sellards, Florida's state geologist. Sellards led a scientific excavation of the site, where workers digging a drainage canal found fossilized animal bones and then, human remains. Andy Hemmings of Mercyhurst University is the lead archaeologist on a project that has picked up where Sellards left off a century ago. "Quite literally, where we're standing, they found what they, at...

Publicity hasn't jeopardized Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's right to an impartial jury, a federal appeals panel says, and jury selection and opening statements can proceed next week as scheduled in the city where the deadly explosions occurred almost two years ago. The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel said in a 2-1 ruling Friday that U.S. District Judge George O'Toole Jr. correctly denied Tsarnaev's requests on three occasions to move the trial and that the judge acted within his discretion, especially given the "particularly unusual" timing with jury selection already underway. "The process has been thorough and...

(CNN) - Six suspects linked to terrorist activity referred to Syria and Iraq as "the beach," and used other coded language on social media to avoid detection in the United States, authorities say. The Bosnian immigrants, including a husband and wife, were arrested this month in Illinois and St. Louis, according to court records released Friday. Three of the suspects are naturalized American citizens. A federal indictment alleges they communicated via social media and conspired to send money and military equipment to terrorists in Syria and Iraq. They allegedly shipped firearms accessories, military uniforms and combat boots through intermediaries in...

I hate texting. I hate the way it restricts me. It's great that I can stay in touch while on the road, but it's a pain in the butt. I can't reference my thoughts with links that would generally be a few "copy and paste" clicks away. I can't stand the screen size of my "Smart Phone" and I have one of the largest available. I hate using the pop up key board that tries to "Help" me. Ever try to search for and paste a link to something that wasn't already planned for? Good luck. I love my PC....

An appeals court added Colorado to the list of states that can allow criminal suspects to search victims' homes to bolster their defense - a move that raised concerns among prosecutors and victims' advocates. The Colorado judges wrote in their Thursday decision that courts in California, New York, North Carolina and Massachusetts have determined a defendant's right to a fair trial sometimes outweighs privacy interests. Victims' rights advocates strongly objected to the decision. "It's going to have a re-victimizing effect in a criminal justice process that is already very re-victimizing," said Boulder-based victims' rights attorney John Clune. People could be...

Can someone please answer a question for me? We have been groomed over the years by the liberal crowd to believe that illegal aliens entering this country (illegally of course) is not a criminal offense, only a civil matter. However, the following code of laws regarding immigration state clearly: 8 U.S. Code § 1325 - Improper entry by alien (a) Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2)...

According to Italian surgeon Sergio Canavero, from the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group, the Frankenstein-style procedure to graft a living person's head on to a donor body will soon be available. The surgery is intended to help extend the lives of people who have suffered degeneration of the muscles and nerves or those who have advanced cancer. Canavero plans to announce the project at the American Academy of Neurological and Orthopedic Surgeons conference in Annapolis, Maryland, in June. The doctor published a paper on the technique that he will use in the Surgical Neurology International journal this month. In the procedure,...

<p>WASHINGTON (CNN) - Shortly after the ISIS recruit known as Jihadi John was unmasked as Mohammed Emwazi of London -- outgoing U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder vowed, "Anyone involved in the killing of American citizens will be held accountable. It doesn't matter where you are, we will find you. We will hunt you down." Holder would not confirm in an interview with CNN's Justice correspondent Pamela Brown the suspected terrorist's identity or reveal whether the U.S. government knows where "Jihadi John" is -- but he insisted America will not relent in bringing to justice the man seen in ISIS videos showing the beheadings of U.S. hostages and other Westerners.</p>

More than 25,000 Egyptians have returned from neighbouring Libya since the IS group posted a video earlier this month of the beheadings of Christian compatriots, the foreign ministry said on Friday. Also on Friday, Libya's internationally recognised Prime Minister Abdullah Al Thinni threatened new air strikes with Egypt against the IS group in his country, warning that the militants were poised to widen their presence there. Al Thinni also said that his government would stop dealing with Turkey as it was sending weapons to a rival group in Tripoli so "the Libyan people kill each other", ramping up his rhetoric...

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on Friday demanded that the Obama administration answer whether it has protected a known gang member from being deported — a man who this week was charged with murder. Grassley wrote a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson noting that press reports say Emmanuel Jesus Rangel-Hernandez has been charged with murdering four people in North Carolina. One of those murdered was a former contestant on America’s Next Top Model. “Mr. Rangel-Hernandez allegedly applied for and received deferred action under the president’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program,” Grassley wrote....

A member of the House Republican leadership introduced a bill Thursday to bar the Internal Revenue Service from seeking to collect the gift tax on any contribution to a nonprofit organization, report ABC News and The Washington Times. Illinois Rep. Peter Roskam, who chairs the Ways and Means oversight subcommittee, said the measure is aimed at preventing the tax agency from targeting donors based on their political beliefs.

Earlier this month (February 4), the 4.1 metre (14 feet) tall Tempest rocket’s engines failed shortly after its launch from Capesthorne Hall in front of a crowd of school children, with the rocket only managing to reach as high as 50 feet in the air. The University researchers and aerial survey firm Bluesky had been aiming for the rocket to reach around 3,000 feet in order to capture nitrogen dioxide, ozone, temperature and humidity data from monitoring equipment in its cone and to then descend back to earth with the aid of a parachute. Speaking to airqualitynews.com about the launch...

Some Apple products may be banned from sale in the U.S. if Ericsson gets its way after filing a barrage of patent lawsuits. The Swedish telecommunications equipment vendor filed nine lawsuits against Apple on Thursday, seven in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas and two in the U.S. International Trade Commission, alleging infringement of a total of 41 of its patents, it said Friday. Apple is no stranger to the courts when it comes to patent disputes. Previous cases have often focused on the “look and feel” of its products, turning on the curvature of a...
