David Checketts, an investor and owner of sports teams, approached me in late May about investing in the St. Louis Rams football franchise. As a football fan, I was intrigued. I invited him to my home where we discussed it further. Even after informing him that some people might try to make an issue of my participation, Mr. Checketts said he didn't much care. I accepted his offer. It didn't take long before my name was selectively leaked to the media as part of the Checketts investment group. Billionaire investor George Soros is not part of St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts’ bid to buy the St. Louis Rams, unnamed sources told the SportsBusiness Journal. News reports emerged this week suggesting that Soros was part of the bid. Earlier this week, Checketts dropped his partner Rush Limbaugh after a growing firestorm erupted over the conservative talk-radio show host. Soros is known for funding several left-wing causes and groups, including Moveon.org. Some of the confusion over Soros’ involvement likely emerged because former Soros fund managers run Towerbrook Financial, the hedge fund that invested with Checketts in the Blues.

Maybe Dave Checketts really doesn't want to buy the St. Louis Rams. Why else would he have included both Rush Limbaugh and, reportedly, George Soros in the group cobbling together the money to make the purchase?
