A strange thing happened tonight. While reading the sudden onslaught of threads asking for advice on various topics, I suddenly remembered that my sister, who loves to hunt moose, really has a problem buying cheese. Does any FReeper have advice for a piece of software she can use to select the cheese?

I have always thought this was a great site to get great political info. I come here for political/journalistic references. If you are going to make your queries 'Religious,' why not go to the religious talking board. I have been slammed here on what people believe is my perceived religion. These were for comments which didnt mention religion, and didnt have religious overtones. I

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Two months ago he accomplished the rare feat of coaxing Cheddar to mature for a full 15 years. Now a prizewinning Wisconsin cheesemaker is preparing to sell a second batch of similarly aged cheese, and the orders are already pouring in. Tony Hook, co-owner of Hook's Cheese Co. in Mineral Point, previously made 1,200 pounds of the special Cheddar. Even at $50 per pound, it sold out in two weeks in December. A new batch is nearing completion and will be shipped to a handful of stores Feb. 22. This batch is 1,600 pounds, and pre-orders have...

A Yolo County man who put cheese down his trousers faces a life sentence when he goes before a judge next month. Jurors convicted Robert Preston Ferguson of two counts of petty theft on Jan. 6. One conviction was for swiping a woman's wallet from a convenience store counter. The other was for stealing $3.99 worth of shredded cheese from the Nugget Market in Woodland. Officers testified that Ferguson put the cheese in his pants and was apprehended in the parking lot. Because of a lengthy criminal history that dates back 35 years, including six first-degree burglary convictions, Yolo prosecutors...

Every day it gets harder and harder to use FreeRepublic. For some reason the site is suffering from unspecified "server" problems that are rarely explained in a way that longstanding members such as myself can even find. The only reason I know there is a server problem is because someone finally posted a comment from FR Staff over on the Alternate Free Republic site; a place I find myself turning to more and more frequently while waiting for the latest daily problem to be resolved. To say this is merely frustrating is the understatement of the year. I grant you...

KEENE, N.H., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A man who was kicked out of a New Hampshire state park for filming a video while in a Bigfoot costume filed a complaint alleging a First Amendment violation. Jonathan Doyle of Keene, N.H., said he was filming an absurdist video featuring himself as a Sasquatch and friends in costumes including a pirate and a Yoda-like character on Mount Monadnock when a park ranger ordered them to leave because they did not have a permit to perform at the park, The Keene Sentinel reported Wednesday. However, Doyle said the rules governing the permits are...

Food stamp programs in 30 states and the District of Columbia provided data on the number of recipients who had no other cash income in 2007 and 2009. These numbers reflect not only the economic conditions in various states, but also the extent to which food stamp recipients qualify for other safety net programs, such as welfare or unemployment compensation.

If the credit card companies tried to charge me to use their product I would cut them off; the same goes for TV, if they do away with free over the air broadcasting I will stop watching. I gave up cable and satellite because the programming was not worth 2 cents and now this new digital signal comes and goes like satellite in a rainstorm, it’s a disaster. The suckers will pay $10 a day for TV but millions of us will shut it off.

NEW YORK -- A restaurant-goer says she was struck by the decor at a Manhattan restaurant -- but not in a visual way. Raina Kumra says in a negligence lawsuit filed last week that a stuffed moose head plummeted off a wall and onto her head at the Scandinavian-themed White Slab Palace on Oct. 4. She says she suffered a concussion and other injuries after being hit by the 150-pound moose head, adorned with 3-foot-wide antlers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken today urged the Senate to pass an extension of unemployment and COBRA benefits before the end of the year, citing the 10 percent unemployment rate and the annual rise in heating bills coming this winter. The Minnesota Democrats joined 22 other senators who signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, asking for a vote on the issue by Dec. 31. A 65 percent subsidy of premium costs for those with COBRA benefits, authorized by the stimulus bill, is set to expire at the end of the year.

What may be the oldest and priciest cheddar in America was released Friday by a world champion Mineral Point cheese maker, just in time for holiday entertaining and gift-giving. It's the single malt scotch of cheddar.Hook's 15-year-old cheddar, which made its debut Friday at Larry's Market in Brown Deer for $50 a pound, will be available in tony Beverly Hills starting next week. Older cheddars may exist, but if they do, they're the stuff of private stashes in cheese maker cellars - not available to the general public, said John Umhoefer, executive director of the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, which...

OTTAWA — Canada’s newly armed border guards have claimed their first victim: a hapless moose. The creature was felled by the duty sidearm of a border officer in late August, newly disclosed documents show. The incident — marking the first time a border-guard sidearm has been discharged on duty — occurred about 25 kilometres west of Creston, B.C., as an unidentified intelligence officer with the Canada Border Services Agency was driving on official business to Nelson, B.C. The officer was behind an RCMP vehicle when both drivers spotted an injured moose struggling in the westbound lane of Highway 3. The...
