The body of a 23-year-old woman was found on Wednesday (Dec 14) in the ocean off Australia after she fell overboard from a cruise ship. Crew members aboard the Pacific Explorer reported the passenger missing at about midnight, when the ship was around 70km out to sea from Cape Jaffa in South Australia state. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority then launched a rescue plane overnight that was joined by two helicopters at daybreak. Searchers said they found the unnamed woman's body in the water just before 7am.

Four other tourists “sustained non-life-threatening injuries” and were treated onboard. The ship suffered minor damage and was anchored off Ushuaia, 3,200 kilometers (nearly 2,000 miles) from the capital Buenos Aires, with several windows smashed on the side, AFP journalists reported. Viking said it was “investigating the facts surrounding this incident.” Scientists often refer to rogue waves as extreme storm waves that surge out of nowhere, often in an unpredictable direction, and can look like a steep wall of water, up to twice the size of surrounding waves. These rare killer waves were once seen as a myth reported by mariners...

VIDEOLast September while cruising in the southern Caribbean aboard the Celebrity Equinox, I had a close encounter with a rainbow. So close that I estimate I was less than 50 yards from it for awhile. BTW, just about 10 seconds before I got this shot of the rainbow a big lightning strike hit at about the same distance away. Since the good luck from the rainbow was apparently not retroactive, I didn't have my cell phone camera turned on although I was already in the process of doing so.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) says he is “in conversations” with a cruise line to house arriving border crossers and illegal aliens, sent on migrant buses from Texas, on a ship off the coast of the city. Last month, reports circulated that Adams was considering housing thousands of newly arrived border crossers and illegal aliens on a Norwegian cruise line ship as part of a broader effort by the city to deal with a steady flow of migrant buses sent by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R).

Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed on Saturday that New York City has approached the company inquiring about using a cruise ship to house an influx of illegal immigrants to the city but said no deal has yet been reached. The New York Post reported this week that Adams was finalizing a deal with the cruise line to house the influx of migrants for six months so they can be processed before being housed by the city’s shelter system. The report estimated that 15,500 illegal immigrants have poured into the nation’s largest city since May as illegal immigration at the border continues...

Thousands of passengers on cruise ships this week are getting something they probably didn't expect when their cruises began a few days ago: extra days at sea. The closure of three major Florida cruise ports Tuesday and Wednesday due to the approach of Hurricane Ian — Port Tampa Bay, Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPort) and Port Canaveral — means that at least five Florida-based cruise vessels won't be able to return to their home ports on Thursday as scheduled to disembark the passengers. Instead, the ships are spending extra time at sea and at cruise destinations in the Caribbean and the...

New York City shelters are so overwhelmed by the migrant crisis that Mayor Eric Adams is considering using cruise ships as temporary housing. “We examined everything from the legality of using any type of cruise ship for temporary housing,” Hizzoner during an interview on WCBS Sunday. “We’re looking at everything to see, how do we deal with this?” Adams made the suggestion just hours before The Post reported that a record number of 9 buses carrying migrants traveled into the city. Each bus typically carries between 40 and 50 migrants. The influx is crippling the New York shelter system. Full-time...

All hell broke loose poolside on board a Carnival Cruise ship earlier this month. The verbal dispute, that involved some pushing and shoving, eventually turns extremely violent.

Brian Herbst had a banner Alaska vacation. He caught rockfish and halibut, saw moose and bears, stayed in a yurt — and in a moment of perfect timing, managed to snap a photo of a minke whale mid-breach, suspended above the waters of Kachemak Bay. Using his daughter’s high school yearbook camera and a borrowed lens, he started snapping photos. He knew he’d gotten the perfect shot. It’s not known why the whales breach, powering up out of the water and flying into the air, Webber said. It could be a way to signal to other whales by making a...

Cruise stocks were tumbling to their lowest point since 2020 on Thursday as fears intensified over rising inflation and a potential recession. Fueling the selloff were concerns that consumers will be curbing discretionary spending in response to rising prices and economic uncertainty. There’s also an uptick in Covid-19 cases that may be increasing consumer reluctance to hop on a cruise. The seven-day moving average for known Covid-19 cases has hovered around 100,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and likely is higher amid an increased reliance on at-home testing kits that don’t get reported to public officials....

(CNN)The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating a recent Covid-19 outbreak on a Carnival cruise ship that docked in Seattle after a two-week voyage. The Carnival Spirit, which sailed through the Panama Canal, departed Miami on April 17 and arrived in Seattle on May 3, according to a statement from the cruise line. The ship holds 2,124 guests and 930 crew members, Carnival said. The CDC says it's not permitted to publicly share the number of passengers and crew members who quarantined or tested positive. But the ship is labeled as orange status per the agency's cruise ship...

For the third time this year, the same Princess Cruise Lines ship has docked in California with passengers who tested positive for COVID-19. The Ruby Princess arrived in San Francisco on April 11 after a trip to Hawaii in which 143 passengers on board testing positive with the virus, the city's health department told CBS MoneyWatch. More than 70 people were found to have COVID-19 in March while on the same ship after it returned from a 15-day cruise to the Panama Canal. In January, 12 passengers arriving in San Francisco following a 10-day Mexico cruise on the Ruby Princess...

Two pictures of Republican Rep. Madison Cawthorn (N.C.) shared with Politico show the embattled congressman at what appears to be a party in women’s lingerie. The political news outlet reported that it obtained the photos from a person who was previously close to Cawthorn, and his campaign. Another person who was formerly close with Cawthorn confirmed the pictures. Cawthorn is controversial figure in the Republican Party. He previously accused congressional colleagues of inviting him to orgies. Cawthorn told “Warrior Poet Society” podcast host John Lovell that lawmakers have invited him to orgies and done cocaine in front of him. He...

The Russia-Ukraine war is changing the very foundations of the global order. As the debris settle, we will see a more militarised Europe & a more multipolar world with repercussions for India's interests as well, writes Dr. Swasti Rao Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine is likely to be a hinge point in contemporary history. It has shown that brute power politics and the threat of war can very well be unleashed in the most developed, democratic and industrialised parts of the world. The concomitant background of the rather overdone ‘conflicting sphere of influence’ debate does not explain the unfolding ground situation....

The problems surrounding the demise of Crystal Cruises are becoming clearer by the day. And through it all, the financial issues could hit those who booked cruises onboard the Crystal ships harder than the company had initially forecasted. According to the former CEO for Crystal Cruises, Jack Anderson, the company owes more than 100 million in outstanding deposits. This should pose no problem for those who paid by credit card for upcoming cruises. Those with FCC’s, which are now worthless, and those that paid cash for a cruise, will likely never see their money. Genting Hong Kong Abandons Crystal Cruises...
