MANCHESTER, N.H. — President Trump has decided to hire the longtime Washington lawyer Joseph E. diGenova, who has pushed the theory on television that Mr. Trump was framed by F.B.I. and Justice Department officials, to bolster his legal team, according to three people told of the decision. Mr. diGenova is not expected to take a lead role but will instead serve as a more aggressive player on the president’s legal team. Mr. Trump broke over the weekend from the longstanding advice of some of his lawyers that he refrain from directly attacking the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, a...

The president of Yale is trying to assuage a public that is increasingly skeptical of the value of a college education today. "If we can first empathize with their concerns, rather than dismiss them as ill-founded or anti-intellectual, we will be better able to regain their trust," Peter Salovey said in remarks delivered at the Higher Education Leadership at Yale in January and excerpted in the Chronicle of Higher Education in March. To this end, he offered a string of assertions and three concrete facts, which were: • "A recent Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that the drop in...

Former CIA Officer and whistleblower Kevin Shipp says the reason for all the crime and treason at the FBI and DOJ all boils down to one thing–the Clinton so-called “charity.” Shipp explains, “Hillary Clinton was running and is running a global financial criminal syndicate. She was using these secret servers to conduct Clinton financial money laundering business. The shocking thing about that is all the former directors of the CIA that have come out to support her, from Clapper to Brennan to Morell to Robert Gates supporting her being elected, knew about this criminal syndicate. Comey was protecting it. Lynch...

Connecticut’s governor called the National Rifle Association (NRA) a terrorist organization in an interview Tuesday. Gov. Dannel Malloy, a Democrat, also said his state would "boycott" the NRA and said the organization has been acting like a "terrorist organization," in an interview with Fox61. He also believes the NRA has changed throughout the past 20 years. "They act, quite frankly, in some cases as a terrorist organization," Malloy said. "You want to make safer guns? We will boycott your company. That's who they are. That's what they do."

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (AP) — Resistance to the Republican tax overhaul comes with an ideological twist for some Democratic state officials: They’ve styled themselves as champions of the working class but are pushing hard for measures that would reduce taxes mostly for the wealthy.Democratic governors and lawmakers in a handful of high-income, high-tax states are promoting policies that are intended to spare their residents the pain of the new $10,000 cap on deductions for state and local taxes. Connecticut, New Jersey and New York are even planning to sue the federal government over the new cap, which was a key...

about a third of all states ban discrimination based on age in places of public accommodation, and some of those statutes may well ban refusal to sell guns to 18-to-20-year-olds. ...Likewise, some cities and counties have similar ordinances (even if their states don't)

President Donald Trump embraced Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) gun control bill but rejected Rep. Steve Scalise’s (R-LA) push for national reciprocity during a bipartisan meeting with lawmakers Wednesday afternoon. After listening to Sen Chris Murphy (D-CT), Trump looked at toward the end of the table and asked Sens. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) to detail their gun control bill. The Manchin/Toomey gun control bill is the same universal background check legislation supported by Barack Obama in the wake of the heinous attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School. It the very bill that was defeated in the Democrat-controlled...

Bolstered by an energized base of grassroots activists, Connecticut Democrats on Tuesday picked up a seat in the state House of Representatives that’s been held by Republicans for more than 40 years. Democrat Phil Young, a former member of the town council, beat Republican Bill Cabral in the race to represent the 120th district, which includes most of Stratford. The seat was open because Republican state Rep. Laura Hoydick was elected mayor, resulting in her resignation from the House in early January. Nick Balletto, the chairman of the Connecticut Democratic party, called the win “historic” and said it signifies that...

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Saying 76 percent of state residents support the idea, Democratic leaders at the State Capitol are pushing for Connecticut to become the 12th state to approve a compact calling for the elimination of the Electoral College for electing U.S. Presidents. They say the Electoral College is an outdated relic of the past. U.S. Presidents are elected by winning the most states with the most electoral votes. Electoral votes are determined by the size of a state’s Congressional delegation. California has 55 electoral votes, while Connecticut has just seven. “There’s no other office in this country, other...

Heard of Watergate? Get ready for Lowellgate. On Sept. 18, 1972, the evening before the primary election during his second attempt for Congress, Kerry's brother Cameron and one Thomas Vallely, both part of his current campaign team, were arrested by Lowell police at 1:40 a.m. and charged with breaking and entering with the intent to commit larceny. The two were apprehended in the basement of a building whose door had been forced open, police said. It housed the headquarters of candidate DiFruscia. The Watergate scandal was making headlines at this time, and it was called the Lowell Watergate. "They wanted...

It is perfectly legal, at the moment, to go online and buy most of an unassembled gun, without a serial number, without any registration requirements. Only a modicum of skill is needed to put it all together. How can it be so easy for anyone to acquire and assemble an AR-15, or AK-47, or something even more deadly? Even in Connecticut, which passed some of the nation’s toughest gun laws in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings, anyone could get a ready-to-assemble gun by mail. Thankfully, so-called ghost guns are on the radar of Connecticut legislators, who are considering...

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy (D.) said Friday that America has a "violence culture," and he expressed surprise at the idea that European countries even allow Americans to visit. Malloy, who is the least popular governor in the entire country, has made gun control a central issue of his, co-founding States for Gun Safety to cooperate with other northeastern states to prevent gun violence. MSNBC host Chris Hayes asked Malloy whether the students who have started the "Never Again" movement after the shooting in Parkland, Fla., can sustain pressure on to enact stricter gun laws. "I do. Listen, 25 percent of...

In the wake of this month’s school shooting in Parkland, Fla., Detroit Police Chief James Craig said he is open to the idea of some teachers being armed with guns in classrooms. “Certainly, there should be a very thorough vetting process,” ... “When I talk about vetting, I mean someone who is trained, someone who is responsible, the rigors associated with someone in a school environment. It could be an ex-military, ex-police officer; some of those folks are teachers, as an example.” Craig likened the vetting process to that of airlines following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, in that...
