The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office recently ruled that the Mountain View woman whose body was found floating in the water along the Bay Trail in Sunnyvale last December died of drowning. According to an autopsy report medical examiner Dr. Joseph O’Hara signed off on March 28, Chuchu Ma had “multiple minor blunt force injuries and pulmonary edema consistent with drowning.” But while Ma’s cause of death may be known, the manner of her death remains undetermined, perhaps indefinitely. Monday morning, Capt. Shawn Ahearn of the Sunnyvale Department of Pubilc Safety said Ma’s case is now considered closed. The...

I know this might turn into an uncomfortable thread. First off, i'm in my mid-40's. I don't even really know why i'm posting this. However, i have this "pull" to construct my final resting accommodations. OK, let me flash forward a little bit... I loved my grandfather dearly. He was a man of very few words, and a lot of hard work; he was a sharecropper. I was always in awe of him. When i was a very young man, 7-ish, he started to teach me woodworking. He taught me; he made things with his hands with me. He showed...

A US police officer shot dead an unarmed man walking in traffic with his trousers down, and his family says it looks like "premeditated murder". Police dashcam video shows Danny Ray Thomas, 34, walking towards the officer on a road in Houston, Texas, last Thursday before a gunshot rings out. Deputy Cameron Brewer repeatedly shouts "get down on the ground" before firing. Both the officer and victim are black. Mr Thomas' family say he suffered from depression after his children died. His sister, Kita Thomas-Smith, attended a Houston City Council meeting on Tuesday where she tearfully urged politicians do to...

A Milwaukee woman was found dead in her near west side home after being mauled to death by at least one of her pet dogs, according to the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office. Hong Saengsamly, 49, was found by her son about 10 p.m. Saturday in the kitchen of her home in the 500 block of N. 28th St., according to a medical examiner's report. Saengsamly suffered multiple puncture and blunt force injuries on her arms and shoulders and her death was due to "mauling by dogs," according to the report. A pit bull-type dog that appeared to be guarding...

A new study reveals that 21,904 Americans have died while withering away on Medicaid waiting lists in states that expanded the program under Obamacare. The victims were poor and disabled applicants herded to the back of the line to make room for able-bodied adults with incomes above the federal poverty level (FPL). Why would any state pursue such a cruel and unjust policy? Obamacare incentivizes expansion states to shift Medicaid’s focus to able-bodied adults by paying over 90 percent of their coverage costs, while paying less than 60 percent of the costs for covering the truly poor and disabled. The...

Socci: Do the hierarchies in the Church still have the Catholic Faith? Antonio Socci "Libero"       March 10, 2018 The parish priest of Cisterna in Latina,  Don Livio Fabiani caused a bit of sensation with his words at the funeral of the two children killed by their father. Yet perhaps – for Catholics – the homily of Cardinal Giuseppe Betori, Archbishop of Florence, at the funeral of the Fiorentina’s Captain, Davide Astori, who died two Sundays ago of a heart attack, ought to be a source of more amazement. These two tragedies have made us face sudden death, the...

There is a new push in antiabortion circles to pass state laws aimed at barring women from terminating their pregnancies after the fetus has been determined to have Down syndrome. These laws are unconstitutional, unenforceable — and wrong. This is a difficult subject to discuss because there are so many parents who have — and cherish — a child with Down syndrome. Many people with Down syndrome live happy and fulfilled lives. The new Gerber baby with Down syndrome is awfully cute. I have had two children; I was old enough, when I became pregnant, that it made sense to...

Last summer, 53-year-old Jeff Murphy was hiking in Yellowstone National Park when he disappeared. Park investigators found his body on June 9, where Murphy had fallen 500 feet from Turkey Pen Peak, after accidentally stepping into a chute. But he wasn't on just any hike. He was looking for a treasure box of gold and jewels worth up to $2 million, buried somewhere in the Rocky Mountains by an eccentric millionaire named Forrest Fenn. Fenn, an art dealer and millionaire in his 80s, lives in Santa Fe, N.M. In his self-published memoir, Fenn included a poem that supposedly leads to...

(Below are some excerpts from the article.) THE Jackass crew mesmerised and shocked the world with their hilarious and, at times, truly dangerous stunts. The likes of Johnny Knoxville, born Philip John Clapp Jr, became superstars in the process but it led many of them down a path of alcoholism, drug dependency and even suicidal thoughts. The series showcased wild stunts in a world before iPhones, social media and YouTube, airing for two years and eventually morphing into nine films and four spin-offs. But once the cameras stopped rolling, several of the show’s stars were left severely injured and...

With the rise of prenatal screening tests across Europe and the United States, the number of babies born with Down syndrome has significantly decreased, but few countries have come as close to eradicating Down syndrome births as Iceland. Since prenatal screening tests were introduced in Iceland in the early 2000s, the vast majority of women -- close to 100 percent -- who received a positive test for Down syndrome terminated their pregnancy. While the tests are optional, the government states that all expectant mothers must be informed about availability of screening tests, which reveal the likelihood of a child being...

Almost half of all TDs (46%) are in favour of repealing the Eighth Amendment, while 15% said they are opposed. Oireachtas members look set to back the repeal of the Eighth Amendment and a likely Dáil vote is on course to pass with a large majority, according to a survey of TDs and Senators. With the Government moving towards seeking Dáil approval for an abortion referendum this summer, The Irish Times asked all Oireachtas members if they favoured a repeal of the amendment, which underpins Ireland’s strict anti-abortion laws. Almost half of all TDs (46 per cent) are in favour...
