An NHS Trust has issued an apology after it was revealed a ‘do not resuscitate’ was placed on a disabled man’s medical records - because he had Down’s syndrome. The Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (DNACPR) orders were placed on 51-year-old Andrew Waters’ records without his family’s consent or knowledge. They only made the shocking discovery after he was discharged from the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, Kent, for the second time in 2011. The reasons for the DNACPR order were stated to be: “Down’s Syndrome, unable to swallow (PEG fed), bed bound, learning difficulties.” It also...

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin lawmakers are ready to vote on Gov. Scott Walker's plan to block the state Department of Natural Resources from purchasing any land through its stewardship program for at least the next 13 years. Walker's budget would place a moratorium on stewardship land acquisitions until the DNR's debt service on purchases already made drops to $1 for every $8 spent since the program began in 1989. The program won't reach that ration until 2028.

DULUTH, Minn. -- Minnesota wildlife researchers will keep trying to collar and study newborn moose calves in 2015 even though things haven't gone well during the first two years of the effort. Last May and June, researchers put GPS collars on 25 calves just hours after they were born. But 19 of them either were abandoned by their mothers and had to be rescued, or their collars fell off or stopped working, leaving only six calves to be studied. By August, those six had been eaten by predators, mostly wolves. "It's frustrating. But we need to persevere," said Glenn DelGiudice,...

When we say Novorossiya we are not referring to that territory Russia annexed over two centuries ago from the Ottoman Empire; nor do we mean the less than one year old confederation proclaimed in East Ukraine by the Donetsk People's Republic and Lugansk People's Republic. What we have in mind is a new Russia: an emerging, much stronger nation, or federation, callused by the pain inflicted from the United States and its EU-NATO toy-dog through economic sanctions; a wiser Russia... a deflowered maiden which resulted from Gorbachev's well-meaning, but naïve, détente-glasnost days of promise by America's deceiving Novus-Imperium. And the...

A teenage mother is fighting a do-not-resuscitate order imposed over her objections on her brain-damaged daughter, saying she should be responsible for medical decisions. Child welfare officials who intervened after the baby was severely injured say life-saving measures in the event she stops breathing would only prolong her suffering. The mother, Virginia Trask, originally agreed to the do-not-resuscitate order. At one point, the infant was removed from life support and placed in her arms to die, then opened her eyes and began breathing. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Maine and Christian Civic League of Maine are joining the Alliance Defending...
  • New York declares war on wild mute swans

IN Britain, wild swans may be prized for their beauty and protected by the Queen, but the US state of New York has declared war on them, branding them a violent menace. Draft proposals to kill or resettle the state's 2200 wild mute swans by 2025 may be supported by some conservationists but have sparked uproar among animal rights activists. Mute swans were brought to North America by European settlers to adorn their estates in the late 1800s but the authorities no longer consider them a beauty worthy of roaming free. The New York state department of environmental conservation says...

MADISON — More high-quality shooting opportunities for the public are on the way thanks to a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources cost-share grant program for public and private shooting ranges. The Shooting Range Grant Program is funded by the Wildlife Restoration Grant, also known as the Pittman-Robertson, which is fund supported by a 10 to 11 percent excise tax on firearms and ammunition. For the first time in several years, this money has been made available to increase public access to quality, safe shooting opportunities throughout the state and improving both public and private shooting ranges. The DNR is awarding...

Wisconsin authorities thought they could curb libidos at the state's nude beach by closing it on weekdays, but citation data shows the move just shifted the hanky-panky to the weekends. The Department of Natural Resources issued 13 citations at the beach between June and early October this year. All were for sex, and 11 were issued on weekends. Those numbers are down from 2012 totals, but wardens said the problem is far more prevalent than the numbers suggest. All the citations were issued during just seven days of surveillance and some people seen having sex ran off before wardens could...

The bad news is that governments do a lot of things they shouldn’t do. The good news is that I never run out of material.I’ve even created some sub-categories, such as my U.S. vs U.K. government stupidity contest and my great-moments-in-local-government series. But I never thought I would have a special category about bureaucrats vs. Bambi.1. Bureaucrats in Virginia filed three misdemeanor charges against a man for the horrible crime of rescuing a deer that was hit by a car.2. Bureaucrats in Maryland fined two men $90 each for not having life jackets when they had the gall to rescue a...

KENOSHA, WI -- An animal shelter was swarmed with armed government agents after employees began caring for a baby deer. "It was like a SWAT team," shelter employee Ray Schulze said. Nine DNR agents and four sheriff's deputies performed a raid on the Society of St. Francis animal shelter. They had received two anonymous snitch calls to notify them that a baby deer was being cared for. The agents came prepared with aerial spy photographs of the animal shelter, perhaps taken with a drone, showing evidence that the baby deer had been walking in and out of the barn.

An elderly woman living at a retirement home in Bakersfield, California died after a nurse at the facility refused to administer CPR to save her. A new video has been released with portions of the 911 call during which dispatchers plead with the nurse to save the woman’s life. During the call, the nurse said it was against the facility’s policy. “Is there anybody there that’s willing to help this lady and not let her die?” the dispatcher asked. “Not at this time,” the nurse said. The incident happened on Tuesday when 87-year-old Lorraine Bayless collapsed at Glenwood Gardens. The...

Forced Do Not Resuscitate Orders Coming to Texas? by Wesley J. Smith | Austin, TX | LifeNews.com | 2/13/13 12:23 PM Good grief! The state with the worst futile care law in the nation now has legislation pending that would enable doctors to place DNR (do not resuscitate) orders on a patients chart without notice or permission–even if the patient is competent! From the text of S.B. 303: Sec.A166.012. STATEMENT RELATING TO DO-NOT-RESUSCITATE ORDERS. (c) Before placing a do-not-resuscitate (DNR) order in a patient ’s medical record, the physician or the facility ’s personnel shall make a reasonably diligent effort...

A doctor at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas denied a 12-year-old gun-shot victim food and water and slipped a "do not resuscitate" order in the patient's chart, without the parents' knowledge. In Texas, the doctors' actions are protected by law. Now the patient is facing a so-called death panel where the doctor and hospital will give the patient and patient's family ten days to find another healthcare facility or they will stop treating the patient. MADISON—The state Department of Natural Resources is looking for public feedback on efforts to re-establish elk in Wisconsin. The DNR estimates about 180 elk currently roam Ashland County. The animals descended from 25 elk captured in Michigan and released in the Clam Lake area in 1995. The DNR has proposed adding at least 200 more elk to the Clam Lake herd and introducing up to 75 elk to the Black River State Forest. The agency has set up an online survey asking people for their thoughts on elk restoration, including whether they are concerned elk might compete with other wildlife,...

A resurgent population has prompted authorities to lift federal protections for the gray wolf in Wisconsin and other parts of the Upper Midwest. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Wednesday that it was removing Endangered Species Act protections for the wolf in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and portions of adjoining states. After the announcement, Gov. Scott Walker ordered the state Department of Natural Resources to implement a state wolf management plan, which is designed to protect animals while also being able to control a growing population. Wolves - which can travel up to 30 miles a day - have soared...

Elderly patients are being condemned to an early death by hospitals making secret use of "do not resuscitate" orders, an investigation has found. The orders – which record an advance decision that a patient's life should not be saved if their heart stops – are routinely being applied without the knowledge of the patient or their relatives. On one ward, one-third of DNR orders were issued without consultation with the patient or their family, according to the NHS's own records. At another hospital, junior doctors freely admitted that the forms were filled out by medical teams without the involvement of...

FULL TITLE: Right-to-die grandmother has 'do not resuscitate' TATTOO on her chest (and PTO inked on her back!) A grandmother who wants doctors to let her die if she falls ill has had 'Do Not Resuscitate' tattooed across her chest - and 'PTO' on her back. Joy Tomkins, 81, decided she did not want to be brought back to life in a medical emergency following the slow death of her husband Malcolm. The mum-of-two, who is not terminally ill, visited a tattoo parlour in January this year and paid £5 to have 'Do Not Resuscitate' written across her chest to...
