The Obama administration reportedly leaked classified information to filmmakers on the raid by U.S. Navy SEALs that killed Osama bin Laden. According to documents released by the Judicial Watch media watchdog, the White House released the sensitive information for a film which was first scheduled to be released October 12, just in time to boost the president’s image shortly before the November elections. Sony Pictures has since pushed the release back to December. White House officials encouraged the filmmakers to incorporate Obama administration talking points in the film, including the “gutsy decision” to raid the Osama compound. Pentagon Press Secretary...

Ignore what the candidates say they'll do differently on foreign policy. They're basically the same man.If Barack Obama is reelected, he ought to consider making Mitt Romney his new secretary of state. I propose this far-fetched howler not because I'm trying to get into my own Dumb Idea Hall of Fame, or because white-male secretaries of state seem to be going the way of the dodo at Foggy Bottom (we haven't had one since Warren Christopher departed in 1997), or because I believe deeply in bipartisanship. (Although I do; it's been a long time since we've had a secretary of...

A national group opposed to what it calls “shoot first” gun laws today sent a letter to all members of the General Assembly, and to legislators in 25 other states, calling on them to repeal or reform their laws. Shoot-first laws take away the obligation to retreat from a confrontation, other than in your home, in order to avoid the use of deadly force. “Trayvon Martin’s killing in Florida has focused public attention on the consequences of these reckless laws,” Ginny Simmons, director of Second Chance on Shoot First, said in a news release. “… Experience has now shown that...

Democrats leapt at the chance to use Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to send a message to all the budget-cutting, union-busting conservatives across the land: If you mess with Big Labor, there’s a heavy price to pay. But if you shoot at the king, you’d better not miss. And with Walker suddenly looking as if he might survive the recall, it appears he’s only been grazed. Now, instead of tacking Walker’s pelt to their door as a warning to any who would follow him, there’s a prospect the whole thing might backfire by elevating Walker into a tested-by-fire, conservative cult-hero and...

Just hours after posing with two beautiful porn stars, Bill Clinton got on his knees -- and begged thousands of people for money ... all in the name of Barack Obama. It's the 21st century way of soliciting campaign funds -- sending a desperately-worded email to masses of people across the country ... in this case, people who've subscribed to Barack Obama's newsletter. He writes, "I've been in President Obama's shoes before -- less than six months to go before an election to let you finish what you started. It was tough enough back then, but this election is going...

This week everyone is talking about the possible Greek exit from the euro and the apparently appealing idea of "why not Spain?". Let's press the reset button and start over. The Greek state, which has more public employees than Spain with four times fewer inhabitants, wasted bailout after bailout and continues delaying reforms, saying that "they'll come, be patient". And now, some demand breaking the agreement-yes-after having accepted the money. One thing is to belong to the European club with its obligations and rights, and another is to demand to participate only for the party and not to collect the...

When it comes to those last globs of ketchup inevitably stuck to every bottle of Heinz, most people either violently shake the container in hopes of eking out another drop or two, or perform the "secret" trick: smacking the "57" logo on the bottle’s neck. But not MIT PhD candidate Dave Smith. He and a team of mechanical engineers and nano-technologists at the Varanasi Research Group have been held up in an MIT lab for the last two months addressing this common dining problem. The result? LiquiGlide, a "super slippery" coating made up of nontoxic materials that can be applied...

A World Health Organization (WHO) preliminary estimate report on the 2011 accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant found that human risk of cancer did not increase in most of the country, but that some infants in a nearby town who were exposed to radioactive iodine-131 may have a higher lifetime risk of developing thyroid cancer.

President Barack Obama holds a narrow advantage over presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney in three of the most pivotal presidential battleground states -- Florida, Ohio and Virginia -- according to new NBC-Marist polls. But in each of these states, Obama's share of the vote is below the 50 percent threshold usually considered safe haven for an incumbent president, and Romney has narrowed the margin in these three battlegrounds since earlier this year.

More Than Half Of Individual Health Plans Offer Coverage That Falls Short Of What Can Be Sold Through Exchanges As Of 2014 Abstract The Affordable Care Act creates state-based health exchanges that will begin acting as a market place for health insurance plans and consumers in 2014. This paper compares the financial protection offered by today’s group and individual plans with the standards that will apply to insurance sold in state-based exchanges. Some states may apply these standards to all health insurance sold within the state. More than half of Americans who had individual insurance in 2010 were enrolled in...

Mitt Romney’s campaign has released a new ad promoting “Day One” of a potential Romney presidency, describing which of President Barack Obama’s policies the Republican will reverse first if he wins the White House. The ad promises that in his first day in the Oval Office, Romney will announce deficit reductions, ending what the campaign calls “the Obama era of big government.”

Poll: Biden’s favorability rating sinksBy Jonathan Easley - 05/23/12 03:49 PM ET Vice President Biden has a negative favorability rating for the first time since becoming President Obama’s vice presidential pick, according to a Gallup poll released on Wednesday. Biden stands at 42 percent favorable versus 46 unfavorable. He has been hovering near break-even since late 2009. His popularity plunged towards the middle ground shortly after taking office, when he was at 53 favorable and 29 unfavorable. Biden is still overwhelmingly popular among Democrats, at 73 favorable, but well underwater with independents, at 37 favorable and 47 unfavorable. The poll...

Don't look now, but Ron Paul has just secured 30 of 36 delegates in Minnesota. Although he won only four counties and finished 18% behind Rick Santorum, the February 7 caucus winner, superior organization has enabled him to stuff the delegate rolls with committed Paulistas. This follows his February 4 narrow caucus loss in Maine, where Paul's delegates still managed to secure 21 of 22 committed delegates.

The 2004 version of Barack Obama, who captured the nation with a dazzling speech about unity and went on to win the presidency on a message of hope, died on Monday. He was 8 years old. The cause of death appeared to be a bitter realization that he needed to win reelection in an increasingly partisan political environment, a cancer that he had been battling for months if not years. Obama's illness got the best of him late Monday, as he announced that his campaign for four more years in the White House would be based not on optimism, but...

White House calls 'BS' on GOP criticism of Obama spendingBy Jonathan Easley - 05/23/12 11:58 AM ET White House press secretary Jay Carney ripped GOP criticism about spending under the Obama administration, calling it “BS.” Carney also said reporting on the GOP criticism without exploring the counter-argument is “a sign of sloth and laziness” during an exchange Wednesday with reporters on Air Force One. “Do not buy into the BS that you hear,” Carney said, according to tweets and reports from multiple reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday. Carney, a former reporter, read a passage from an article by...

Ariz. election official says Obama will make ballot, birth-certificate questions 'closed'By Justin Sink - 05/23/12 03:06 PM ET The Arizona elections official who suggested last week he might remove President Obama from the state's ballot without confirmation that his birth certificate was legitimate said Wednesday he considers the issue closed. "Late yesterday, our office received the 'verification in-lieu of certified copy' from officials within the Hawaii Department of Health that we requested in March. They have officially confirmed that the information in the copy of the Certificate of Live Birth for the President matches the original record in their files,"...

GOP lawmaker presses Obama on reports of ‘secret’ missile dealBy Jeremy Herb - 05/23/12 05:13 PM ET Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio) is not backing down from his allegations that President Obama has a “secret deal” with Russia on missile defense. Turner sent another letter to President Obama on Wednesday that urged the White House to explain what missile defense deals it made with Russia, citing Russian reports that a deal was reached and then dropped without being made public. Turner and many other Republicans have seized on Obma’s “hot mic” comment to then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in March, when he...
