The makers of a new Katie Couric documentary on gun violence deceptively edited an interview between Couric and a group of gun rights activists in an apparent attempt to embarrass the activists, an audio recording of the full interview shows. At the 21:48 mark of Under the Gun a scene of Katie Couric interviewing members of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, a gun rights organization, is shown. Couric can be heard in the interview asking activists from the group, “If there are no background checks for gun purchasers, how do you prevent felons or terrorists from purchasing a gun?” The...

SULTAN, Wash. -- Four shots fired. Three hit the intruder. It was one surreal moment, says Barb Moles. "I was just intent upon stopping him. I didn't have any other thought in my head," says Moles. "I just knew I had to stop him." Moles, 80, was home with her husband, John, and their adult son Thursday night when she says she heard a commotion. She walked into the kitchen and found her husband bleeding on the floor. John, a retired Boeing worker, had been attacked with a knife and beaten with a crowbar, authorities said. He said three words...

The Richmond Police Department is trying an innovative approach to reduce violent crime. Because the policy targets people who are not allowed to own guns, it might have positive effects. David Kennedy has shown that most murders are committed by a very small group of violent individuals, usually associated with gangs and/or drug trafficking. Identifying and focusing on those individuals has been shown to drastically reduce the murder rate. One of the methods used to do this is to encourage people to turn in violent felons who illegally possess firearms. Richmond Virginia has decided to run with this idea....

(CNN) -- To hear Jackie Barden and David Wheeler describe their lives today is a master class in hope. On December 14, 2012, Barden's youngest son, 7-year-old Daniel, and Wheeler's son, 6-year-old Ben, were among those killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. "(My husband) Mark and I still have a great life, and we really have to remember that," Barden said, adding that their two children bring the family an enormous amount of love and strength. "We are fortunate with what we have with the two of them." .... "Our families deserve that day in court," said...

The National Rifle Association, the country's most influential gun-rights supporter, is challenging President Obama's new plan to use his presidential power to tighten firearms laws, calling it a "political stunt" that fails to increase public safety. President Obama said this weekend that he'll meet Monday with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss his "options†toward curbing gun violence, after ordering his White House team several months ago to identify "new actions" that he can take. The president also said that he's taking action because Congress has failed to act. He is expected to use so-called executive orders to tighten federal...

It’s not lost on anyone that the biggest supporters of gun control are those who have other people with guns employed to protect them. – Bearing Arms Well, it may be lost on “those who have other people with guns employed to protect them.â€Take Virginia’s radically anti-gun governor Terry McAuliff for example; his Attorney General recently moved to rescind reciprocal concealed carry permits with 25 states. In retaliation, the GOP legislature is now threatening to pass a bill that would remove the Governor’s armed protection unit.Seems fair, and aren’t we all about being fair? Leveling the playing field? It might...

Colonial Firearm Regulation Clayton E. Cramer Recently published scholarship concerning the regulation of firearms in Colonial America claims that because Colonial governments distrusted the free population with guns, the laws required guns to be stored centrally, and were not generally allowed in private hands. According to this view, even those guns allowed in private hands were always considered the property of the government. This Article examines the laws of the American colonies and demonstrates that at least for the free population, gun control laws were neither laissez-faire nor restrictive. If Colonial governments evinced any distrust of the free population concerning...

Congressional Democrats are trying to build support for an effort to bar gun purchases by terror suspects, hoping to take advantage of the same public anxieties about security that gave Republicans a ringing House victory. The Democratic push seems likely to fall victim to opposition from the National Rifle Association and congressional gun-rights backers, chiefly Republicans, who have smothered firearms curbs for years. If the Republicans who control Congress block votes on the proposal, Democrats hope to profit politically by winning sympathy from angry voters. ...

So I am in no mans land here, I am looking for a hand gun for my daughter for concealed carry. I have not bought one for someone else before however we have been to the range many times and she has handled many firearms over the years. I am a stickler when it comes to, "if it's not comfortable in your hand, you will never shoot it right" philosophy. However, I have big huge man hands so all of them are fit for me, and her hands are a lot smaller. For expert opinion, let me describe her. 5'6"...

We had a bit of a scare this evening. It was after dark. Several LE vehicles on the roads around our house shining spotlights, soon joined by a helicopter. Obviously looking for someone. Before the helicopter joined, I had thought it might be an exercise, but one of the neighbors said our county can't afford a chopper for a practice run. It was 'bout a week ago when the LE did find a different someone, hiding in a culvert not far from here. Suspect in a high-speed chase who had fired (allegedly) at the LE in pursuit. We were wondering...

October 3, 2015 Obama's wink and nod on gun confiscation By Thomas Lifson President Obama couldn’t be more eager to change the subject of national news discussion away from the catastrophic failure of his Middle East foreign policy. So the shooting in Roseburg, OR offered an opportunity to gin up his base and re-focus his domestic opponents on playing defense against gun control. By framing his goal as the extremely vague phrase “common sense gun control legislation,” he avoids specifics. And in fact, nobody on his team has yet come up with a concrete suggestion that would have saved the...

A lot has been made about the 3D printing of firearms. Whether you are for or against the rights to own and operate a gun, there is no denying that 3D printing has created a bit of problem for those interested in controlling the distribution and availability of these potential weapons. WeÂ’ve seen several versions of 3D printed firearms come about over the past couple of years, most notably the Liberator gun from Defense DistributedÂ’s creator Cody Wilson. The great thing (or perhaps not so greatÂ… depending on which side of the political fence you stand on), is that 3D...

(...) Following the on-air shooting of two television reporters in Roanoke, Virginia, she declared: “I feel just great heartache at what happened. I want to reiterate how important it is [that] we not let yet another terrible instance go by without trying to do something more to prevent this terrible killing that is stalking our country.” She added: "We have got to do something about gun violence in America — and I will take it on." She said the same thing back in July, in an obvious shift away from avoiding Second Amendment issues during the presidential campaign to avoid...

The gun used during the attempted terror attack on the “Draw Muhammad” event in Texas may have been bought from the Arizona store linked to Fast and Furious. Los Angeles Times broke the news yesterday which also included the nugget that Nadir Soofi’s purchase was known by the federal government (emphasis mine). Soofi’s attempt to buy a gun caught the attention of authorities, who slapped a seven-day hold on the transaction, according to his Feb. 24, 2010, firearms transaction record, which was reviewed by the Los Angeles Times. Then, for reasons that remain unclear, the hold was lifted after...

Any doubts Ben Carson left about his commitment to the Second Amendment stemmed from “political inexperience,” the famed neurosurgeon told TheBlaze. Carson, who is among the leading Republican presidential candidates in most polls, said in 2013 shortly after the public began calling for him to run for president, that the right to own a semi-automatic weapon depended on whether someone lived in a rural or populated area.

Seattle City Council president Tim Burgess is proposing a new tax on guns. The proposal would tax gun sales $25 per gun and add a five cent-tax on each round of ammunition. Five cents per round adds up to a roughly $2.50 increase for a box off handgun ammunition. The legislation would also impose a $500 fine on gun owners who do not report guns lost or stolen.
