What is going on with Free Republic? Why are there so many postings with the same title. There's always been some duplication but nothing like what I'm seeing these days.

An Illinois man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old outside a Missouri gas station, police say. The fatal shooting happened around 2:10 a.m. on Jan. 7 in the parking lot of a Conoco gas station, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said. Surveillance footage showed Jesse Lopez was trying to steal a car belonging to Brett Kress, when Kress shot at him, KSDK reported, citing a probable cause statement. ...And they’re also challenging the notion that the paper ran a story with questionable sourcing. Do you have a response to the criticism?” I think the Atlanta Journal probably would be the one group that would be sort of complexed about that whole situation because they are the ones who printed the first thing of there being a crime caused by Richard Jewell,” said Eastwood. “And so they’re probably looking for ways to rationalize their activity. I don’t know for sure. I haven’t — never discussed it with anyone from there …”

A freelance reporter covering Joe Biden's presidential campaign launch says the campaign has gotten physical in its attempts to block the press from questioning the former vice president. Marcus DiPaola, a videographer who was on the trail with Biden Wednesday night in Iowa, used his Twitter account to voice complaints from multiple members of the press regarding poor treatment from campaign staff, which was reportedly blocking reporters from asking questions and taking photographs of anyone who objected. "A reporter approached @JoeBiden to ask a question and a member of his staff told the reporter to leave, and when the reporter...

We’re living in an age of unprecedented technology. It’s not the future that our elders promised to us when we were kids – I mean, where are the flying cars? – but technology has made our lives exponentially easier. Take the smartphone for example. What used to take a computer, a Walkman, an atlas, and more now fits in the palm of your hand. In fact, the advent of the smartphone has rendered obsolete some things that we used for years. Here’s a list of ten things that our smartphones have replaced. It’s not an exhaustive list by any means,...

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio -- A 12-year-old Ohio boy's summer vacation was anything but exciting until someone called police on him for doing his job. Reginald Field started a business cutting grass for his neighbors, but his service at one customer's house resulted in a 911 call. Fields said everything was going fine until his customer's neighbors called the police, claiming the teen had mowed part of their lawn. "They said I was cutting their grass," he said. "I didn't know it." The neighbor told authorities that the teen and his crew had cut a portion of their property and were...

I've been getting Email, telephone calls and FRmail from people asking "Are you planning to evacuate because of the crisis?" Well, no, actually, I'm not. North Korea has made these threats towards Guam before. They made the same threats at least twice when Mr Obama was President. Even if they carry out the threats it is doubtful they have the missile technology to actually land a warhead within 100 miles this 11 mile wide by 38 mile long little island. If a missile does get close then Guam is protected by batteries of THAAD anti-ballistic-missile missiles. If the situation starts...

It’s always exciting as a parent when your child demonstrates the desire and drive to work hard and earn something. Running a lemonade stand is one of the simplest, best ways for youngsters to dip their toes into the working world. Like many, my kids have created stands on several occasions, and it’s inspiring to watch them learn and grow through the experience. No book can teach your kid the value of a dollar. Working outside in the hot sun all day long most certainly can. So, one California dad was pleased when his daughter decided she’d try to take...

On CNN this morning, David Gregory, speaking of President Trump’s tweeting—and specifically, those from this weekend criticizing the judge who blocked his executive order on immigration—said: “he sounds like an old man sitting on his porch yelling at somebody to get off his lawn.” Added Gregory: “you’ve had in the first 18 days, successive weekends where he has completely derailed what his administration is trying to do with a kind of personal indulgence by attacking people personally, launching an attack on the separation of powers. But what it really comes down to is this obsession with himself, and I think...

President-elect Donald Trump ran into one of his most critical biographers while golfing Friday on his course in Florida, Politico reported. Trump reportedly asked Harry Hurt III, who wrote "Lost Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald J. Trump" in 1993, to leave after Hurt offered Trump congratulations on his presidential victory. The book sparked a feud between the two, as it included Ivana Trump's accusations that Trump had raped her, an allegation Trump has repeatedly denied. According to Politico's report, Trump criticized Hurt's biography on the golf course, leading to a heated exchange Hurt shared on Facebook, which Politico said...

An off-duty New Jersey state trooper chased after three unarmed teenagers and shot at them early Sunday after they accidentally knocked on his door, officials said Wednesday. Trooper Kissinger Barreau told investigators he believed the teens were trying to break into his Sparta home, CBS New York reported. Police said they are investigating the shooting, but Barreau remains on active duty and hasn’t faced any charges. One of the teens, 18-year-old Jesse Barkhorn, said he and his friends were dropping people off after a party Sunday. They mistakenly knocked on the trooper’s door, having mistaken it for a friend's house,...

As you prepare for the IRS to start monitoring your health insurance and make your medical records accessible to thousands, perhaps you also should vacuum your floor, wash the windows and lock up any weapons, should you be so unwise as to actually have them. It’s all in readiness for Obamacare, which will include home visits for many citizens, maybe even everyone, depending on the interpretation of the law.

Why do so many cashiers give you change in such a sloppy manner? It seems that cashiers these days do not get any training whatsoever in properly giving you back your change. Back in the 1970s, when I was starting out in the workforce, I had several jobs that involved taking in money and giving change back to customers. Now we did not have those cash registers that automatically calculate your change. So I had to figure it out in my head. Even today, I can instantly calculate the change from a $20 bill. For example, a purchase of $11.56...

Man oh man. What is happening to our society? Where are all of these people coming from all of the sudden? People parking in Handicapped spots that walk completely fine and then pull down the placard as they drive away. Ignorant people that cut in line at the deli, amusement park or shows. Parents on cell phone calls as their crazed kids run around uncontrollably. I ain't perfect, nor am I one of those people that said "when I was young..." Because I feel a lot of these teens have more "manners" than most adults and younger kids. WTH is...
