The 20th Republican presidential debate concluded Wednesday night with Mitt Romney, whom no one thinks is a real conservative, making a pretty good case that Rick Santorum isn’t much of a conservative either, if you consider what he does and not what he says. The seemingly endless debate cycle already pretty much had demolished Newt Gingrich’s like-ability quotient irrespective of how conservative he may or may not really be, and relegated Ron Paul to the also-ran category, despite his most authentic conservative credentials. . .

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich leads the pack in the first Rasmussen Reports survey of the Republican Primary race in his home state of Georgia. A new telephone survey of Likely Georgia Republican Primary Voters shows Gingrich with 33% support, followed by former Senator Rick Santorum at 28%. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney runs third with 20% of the vote, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul trails with nine percent (9%). Newt Gingrich won tonight’s debate, which he needed to do, but not because he out-maneuvered his opponents. Santorum and Romney were simply too focused on each other, with Paul tag-teaming alongside Romney (ambition makes strange bedfellows). All of this gave Gingrich cover and also gave him the opportunity to be the only candidate that directly and repeatedly went after Barack Obama. He looked like a statesman. His answer on infanticide and shifting the focus from GOP and birth control to Obama and his campaign against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act was the rhetorical feat of the night.

This is utterly disgusting. I have been back and forth between Santorum and Gingrich the past year. I know we have factions here supporting both camps. One thing upon which I think we can all agree is that the audience in this CNN debate is grossly partial to Mitt Romney. I know there's a lot of Mormons there in AZ but I also know this state loves John McCain - even when given a conservative alternative like J.D. Hayworth - so what should we make of this?

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich may be slipping in the polls, but he will deliver a speech at the annual American Israel Public Affairs Committee policy conference in Washington, a spokesman for AIPAC confirmed today. Gingrich's speech will be on the morning on March 5, one day after U.S. President Barack Obama addresses the conference and before the speech of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who will speak that evening.
