• VANITY: DFW-area places to see model baths?

    05/31/2014 8:30:08 AM PDT · by Badabing Badablonde · 45 replies
Remodeling baths on a grand scale -- ripping out tubs and sinks, just Bath Crashers. Last time I was involved in something on this scale, I could go to Home Depot Expo to see baths and kitchens galore. The design experts helped us come up with a plan and assisted us in our choices. Apparently, they have since closed all of their Expo Centers. We visited a place called Home Decor, I think, and they had a few model bathrooms that gave us some basic ideas. We also visited some model homes in new neighborhhods, and the baths looked great...
  • Quad-engine Mustang Mach IV leads Mustang exhibit at Petersen Museum

When it comes to horsepower, is there ever such a thing as too much? When Gary Weckesser was building an exhibition funny car in 1969, he likely asked himself that same question, arriving at an answer of “no.” Not content to power his tube-frame, fiberglass-bodied Mustang with a single 351-cu.in. Windsor V-8, Weckesser opted to stuff four of them in front of the windshield, creating the appropriately named, four-wheel drive Mustang Mach IV. In honor of the Mustang’s 50th anniversary, this car highlights a new Petersen Museum exhibit entitled Mustangs Forever: 50 Years of a Legend. In fairness, Weckesser wasn’t...

WHY ARE THEY SO VALUABLE?

Experts say paper money was illegal in California until the 1870s, so it's extremely rare to find any coins from before that period. Additionally, most of the coins are in mint condition, having been stashed away seemingly immediately after they were minted. They were valued by Don Kagin, a numismatist who is handling the sale and marketing of the coins.

  • How about bring back the draft to include women?

    Jewish World Review ^ | 5/27/2014 | Alicia Colon
Last January 2013, then Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta, ordered the Joint Chiefs of Staff to study the feasibility of opening all military jobs to women by 2016. This would include more than 200,000 jobs that make up the core of the ground-level combat force in the Army and the Marine Corps. Opponents of women in combat argue, rightly in my opinion, that the military's physical standards must not be compromised to expand access because our military's fighting effectiveness is at stake. Hauling 50 pounds of equipment while walking 20 miles is a standard that must not be demoted as it...

I'm always getting asked what books I read, what movies I watch and what apps I use when it comes to military subjects. On my old site I had a section called "Rogoway's Reviews" and it's time I start posting reviews here. My first installment is quite possibly the best air combat book I have ever read, Viper Pilot by Dan Hampton. Viper Pilot Is The Best Air Combat Memoir I Have Ever Read Dan Hampton has been called the most lethal Wild Weasel of all time, along with the best F-16 pilot in USAF history with 151 combat missions...

The epic car chase from the classic 1968 film Bullitt is still hailed as one of the most dramatic, exciting and influential in movie history. Now – as a special homage to the Oscar-winning original, which starred Hollywood legend Steve McQueen driving a Ford Mustang GT fastback – a modern day recreation is all set to be a YouTube sensation. The awe-inspiring, high-speed pursuit featured in the original action thriller was filmed on the hilly streets of San Francisco. Today’s tribute, however, was shot in Britain at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit where the iconic Mustang will be celebrating its 50th...
  • Vanity - Need Advice

I know that I'm opening a can of worms, but I need some advice. I'm in the market for some new camo. I have plenty, but it's all in storage. I've been thinking about replacing it with some military surplus camo, either marpat or flecktarn. Has anyone tried this, and if so, what were the results? I mean, it should still work, right? It's primarily to break up your outline, so my assumption is that it would still function just as well.

The revolutionary idea breaks away from the traditional goggles and tube with a futuristic all-in-one design. Instead of just breathing through your mouth, the Easybreath full-face design allows you breathe through your nostrils too. The head piece allows for a full 180-degree-range so you won’t miss that sea turtle swimming by. It also has a double airflow system that prevents mask fogging, and a built-in component that automatically plugs the top end of the snorkel when it's immersed.

I recently had occasion to read through the S.E.C. 10Q filing for the newly formed Colt Defense, which is a limited liability corporation comprised of New Colt Holding, Colt Manufacturing, Colt Defense Technical Services, Colt Canada, Colt Finance, & Colt International among others. The merged company has brought the manufacture of Colt long guns and Colt hand guns together into a single enterprise, however the company reported a loss in the most recent quarter and the sale of long guns was reported down more than 50% from a year ago (~24million in Q1 2014 vs ~52million Q1 2013). Even though it costs well over one million Euros, Pagani Huayra is selling like hot cakes. Each Huayra, as you’d expect, is bespoke to its owner, and some of these owners evidently have a very unique taste. Recently five very special examples of the car were spotted at Pagani Factory in Italy, each sporting a unique color combo. The classiest of the lot is a two-tone brown and tinted carbon model featuring yellow accenting, plus the Track Pack, black wheels, and gold brake calipers. This one is said to be heading to KSA (Saudi Arabia). There is also a red...

Seeking reliable backup communication in a crisis, emergency managers are finding new solutions in an old technology: ham radio. “It’s just another avenue, another opportunity for us to be able to communicate,” said Herb Schraufnagel, public safety captain with Emory University Hospital Midtown. Emory HealthCare is among a growing number of hospital systems to adopt ham radio. Hospital administrators and government officials took a lesson from Hurricane Katrina, which left some Gulf Coast medical centers isolated from the outside world, as landlines and cell towers failed. …

In July of 2013, I picked up a little .380 pocket pistol (specifically a Taurus PT738 TCP), and I started researching what would be the most appropriate ammo to use with it.Turns out that pretty much nobody knew. Well — I mean, sure, there’s lots of opinions, but I couldn’t find any comprehensive source of professional tests that were done from this particular barrel size, in ballistic gel, with a large sample size. I found plenty of great tests from PocketGunsAndGear that were shot with a shorter 2.5″ barrel, and some tests from tnoutdoors9 that were shot with a longer barrel,...
