A vaccine that can train cancer patients' own bodies to seek out and destroy tumour cells has been developed by scientists. The therapy, which targets a molecule found in 90 per cent of all cancers, could provide a universal injection that allows patients' immune systems to fight off common cancers including breast and prostate cancer. Preliminary results from early clinical trials have shown the vaccine can trigger an immune response in patients and reduce levels of disease. The scientists behind the vaccine now hope to conduct larger trials in patients to prove it can be effective against a range of...

Israel should at least make good on its promise of “economic peace” and ensure we won’t have riots next door. Over the past couple of weeks I have been spending a considerable amount of time in Ramallah, assisting in the development of a project on trade facilitation which will be funded by the US government to help the Palestinian private sector to build the economy and ensure continued stability. The picture that has been painted of the situation on the ground is most worrying. The optimism of the period of 2008-2010 during which Salam Fayyad launched and implemented the first...

Hamas terror boss Fathi Hamad is a notable figure. Hamad is both the director of Hamas's al-Aksa television station and the terror group's "minister" of the interior and national security. His double portfolio is a clear expression of the much ignored fact that for terrorists, propaganda is inseparable from violence. Hamad's key posts make him a man worth listening to. His statements necessarily indicate Hamas's general direction. On March 23, Hamad was interviewed by Egypt's Al Hekma television station. The interview was translated by MEMRI. Hamad made two central points. First, he claimed that the Palestinian war against Israel is...

WASHINGTON -- The government of Israel is again asking the United States to release convicted spy Jonathan Pollard, a former Navy analyst serving a life sentence for espionage. But the White House said Monday its position has not changed, and President Barack Obama has no intention of releasing Pollard. Pollard was arrested in 1985 and convicted in 1987. Democratic and Republican administrations alike have repeatedly refused Israeli appeals to release Pollard. The latest request was made Monday in a letter to Obama from Israeli President Shimon Peres, who asked that Pollard be released on humanitarian grounds because his health has...

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem The Hallel - Songs of Praise Psalm 112 1. Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. 2. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. 3. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever. 4. Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. 5. A good man showeth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion. 6....

Arab racism prevents peace Op-ed: Hebron house dispute highlights Arab desire for Middle East free of any Jewish presence Giulio Meotti Published: 04.04.12, 11:32 / Israel Opinion The invisible headlines go beyond the settlers who bought a house near Hebron's Cave of the Patriarchs. The real story is not about home ownership; rather, it's at the very core of the Mideastern conflict. While Israel is not "Arabrein" (Jewish citizens live with their fellow Arab citizens and neither they nor anyone else suggests they are "an obstacle to peace"), a Nazi-like ideology sees the entire State of Israel as an alien...

IDF considering interceptors for sea-based gas platforms By YAAKOV KATZ Fearing missiles, Navy seeking budget for 4 new vessels to improve defense coverage of Mediterranean Sea; Israel concerned Hezbollah will try to attack platforms. The navy is particularly concerned about Syria’s recent purchase of the Russian Yakhont anti-ship missile, which could be transferred to Hezbollah and used to target the gas rigs. Syria already tested the Yakhont in recent maneuvers. The weapon is said to be a sophisticated missile with a range of about 300 km. Last February, the navy seized an Iranian arms ship whose cargo, Israel said, was...

Why I no longer hate Israel Op-ed: Portuguese blogger explains why he changed his views, fell in love with Israel Romeu Monteiro, YNET I’m a 22-year-old Portuguese gay activist and PhD student. I’m not Jewish, Israeli or even religious, but I am a Zionist and strong supporter of Israel, and I want to explain why. My story begins at the age of nine, when I went to the school library to get the Diary of Anne Frank. I had no prior idea about the Holocaust and I could not comprehend such persecution. I had never met a Jew, but I...

The two young men had woefully little in common: one was a wealthy Mormon from Michigan, the other a middle-class Jew from Israel. But in 1976, the lives of Mitt Romney and Benjamin Netanyahu intersected, briefly but indelibly, in the 16th-floor offices of the Boston Consulting Group, where both had been recruited as corporate advisers. At the most formative time of their careers, they sized each other up during the firm’s weekly brainstorming sessions, absorbing the same profoundly analytical view of the world. That shared experience decades ago led to a warm friendship, little known to outsiders, that is now...

Following are excerpts from a Friday sermon delivered by Jordanian cleric Ghaleb Rabab'a, which aired on Jordan TV on March 23, 2012 : Ghaleb Rabab'a : The [Jordanian] army is invincible. Its units are filled with people who pray, with imams, and with people who memorized the Koran. This army will never be defeated, Allah willing. Jerusalem will be regained, Allah willing, by these modest and pure hands, which hold the Koran high and recite it day and night. This is an army that bows before none but Allah. Today, we must take pride in our country and its army,...

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met Sunday afternoon with his Italian counterpart Mario Monti. Following the meeting, Netanyahu spoke to reporters and mentioned the P5-1 talks with Iran scheduled for next week. "We have seen that Iran uses the talks in order to deceive and mislead," he said. "We will follow the talks." "Our policy with regard to Iran has not changed, and that is also what needs to happen at the talks," he added. "The demands from Iran must be clear – remove the enriched [nuclear] material, stop the enrichment and dismantle the installation at Qom." Iran, meanwhile, has rejected...

Israel’s interior minister declared Günter Grass, one of Germany’s best-known authors, unwelcome in Israel on Sunday, barring him from entering the country for a poem that accused Israel of being a threat to world peace. “Grass’s poems fan the flames of hatred against Israel and the Israeli people, thus promoting the idea he was part of when he donned an SS uniform,” said the minister, Eli Yishai, referring to Mr. Grass’s admission that he had been a Nazi soldier as a 17-year-old. “His distorted poems are not welcome in Israel. I suggest he try them in Iran where he will...

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel Obama and Romney won't state this basic fact There is, sadly, a huge divide between the Obama administration’s position and that of the government of Israel with regard to Jerusalem. For thousands of years, at the end of the Passover Seder as well as at the end of Yom Kippur, Jews around the world conclude their holiday by reciting, “Next Year in Jerusalem.” To Jews, Jerusalem is the holiest city, and has the holiest site, the Temple Mount, which includes the Western Wall. Jews praying outside of Jerusalem face toward Jerusalem. When Israel became...

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem The Hallel - Songs of Praise Psalm 111 Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them. Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever. He has shown his people the power...

Israeli poet Itamar Yaoz-Kest, a Holocaust survivor, has penned a public "letter-poem" in reply to the "poem" in which German Günter Grass accused Israel of "endangering the already fragile world peace." The letter-poem was published on journalist Ze'ev Galili's blog, in Hebrew, under the name: "The Right to Exist: a Poem-Letter to the German Author." It addresses Grass, who has admitted to being a member of the Waffen SS during World War II, by name. The "letter-poem" starts thus: Danger, I want to be a danger, I want to be a danger to the world, so that after my destruction,...
