Hillary Clinton says she welcomes businessman and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban's interest in potentially becoming her vice presidential running mate. In an interview that aired Sunday, Clinton opened the door wide open to Cuban and other business leaders, who could serve to counter the likely Republican nominee, real estate mogul Donald Trump. "I think we should look widely and broadly. It's not just people in elected office. It is successful businesspeople," Clinton told NBC News's Chuck Todd on "Meet the Press." "I am very interested in that." "And I appreciate his openness to it," she added of Cuban's comments....

The surf at Mavericks was at its most treacherous on Thursday, one of the biggest days of recent years. Conditions were far from ideal, and there was no talk of holding the annual big-wave contest at Half Moon Bay's fabled spot. One particular episode, however, got everyone's attention. The biggest waves were steaming in at some 50 feet on the face. It was a clear, relatively windless day, but the ocean was so chopped up from recent storms, very few surfers were out - and even fewer were willing to meet the challenge. One of them was Garrett McNamara, who...

Mark Cuban has had beef with Donald Trump for a while, and he decided to reignite his issues with the businessman once again. In some thoughts shared on the Cyberdust app for which he is a chief investor, Cuban questioned the legitimacy of Trump’s 2016 presidential bid. Cuban, who owns the Dallas Mavericks and whose net worth is estimated to be north of $3.5 billion, postured that Trump might not have the funds to make a legitimate push for presidency. His theory is based on the difference between theoretical net worth and actual cash assets. Here is what he posted:...

One of the most gifted and ultimately tragic talents in NBA history has died. Former Dallas Mavericks big man Roy Tarpley, a terrific scorer and rebounder whose career was derailed by drug and alcohol abuse, died in a Dallas hospital Friday at 50 years old.

In today's press conference covering the lifetime ban and $2.5 million fine against Clippers owner Donald Sterling over his racist remarks, a Fox News' The Kelly File reporter asked NBA Commissioner Adam Silver if he was on a "slippery slope." “Should someone lose their team for remarks shared in private? Is this a slippery slope?” Jovian Lien is not the first person to raise the question of freedom of speech in the handing down of punishment against Sterling. On Monday, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban asked the same essential question, also using the phrase "slippery slope." "I think there's a constitution...

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban elaborated on his controversial opinion that the NFL "is 10 years away from an implosion" in a 1,585-word Facebook post published Monday night, upping the ante to include player safety and behavioral issues as additional threats to pro football's future. Cuban's comments about the NFL on Sunday night focused on what he perceives as "greed" by the country's most popular sports league. He contended that the oversaturation of the NFL's expanding television package would eventually turn off fans. That subject was the third of five points in Cuban's Facebook post to explain his prediction for...

So apparently Mavericks fans don't know how to properly celebrate a championship. They're dancing in the streets, cheering, and generally just having fun. No reports of violence, no cars burning, in short tens of thousands of fans and no riots. Do have some idiots parking on I35 to look over the parade. That's about the worst of it. C'mon, Dallas. Haven't we learned anything from LA about how to celebrate a championship or Vancouver about how to riot? Man, these Texans... /HEAVY sarcasm!

company run by former Dallas Mavericks owner Ross Perot Jr. filed suit Monday against the club and Mark Cuban's company that holds majority ownership in it, alleging that it's insolvent or verging on insolvency. In the 13-page petition filed in a state district court in Dallas, Hillwood Investment Properties III Ltd. asked that a judge place Dallas Basketball Ltd., the team's business management, in receivership and order an independent audit of its operations. Hillwood also is seeking actual and punitive damages.

WASHINGTON -- President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration. "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done," he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package. One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts. "There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats," the official said. "We shouldn't...

DALLAS (Sept. 29) - Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard took a first step toward repairing his damaged reputation Monday, saying he was sorry for disrespecting the national anthem.

Josh Howard's decision-making has again come into question after he was filmed disrespecting the national anthem. And the Mavericks are taking steps to help Howard and their other players avoid controversy in the future. In a video posted on YouTube, the swingman is shown at Allen Iverson's charity flag football game in July. When the national anthem is being sung, various participants are shown mugging for the camera. When the camera gets to Howard, he says: " 'The Star-Spangled Banner' is going on. I don't celebrate this [expletive]. I'm black." Howard goes on to make a difficult-to-discern comment that includes...

I guess Barack Obama doesn’t read Hot Air, nor listens to wisdom from our own Allahpundit. Team O got so flustered by today’s “Original Mavericks” ad that they rushed this new spot out today, apparently before doing some rudimentary fact-checking. Obama argues that the Bridge to Nowhere shows him to be the real Maverick: It’s true that Palin didn’t start off opposing the bridge, but as Governor she made the decision to kill it. At least she moved in the right direction. Who voted for it in the first place? Not John McCain; he derided it on the Senate floor,...

The Obama campaign is issuing a response TV ad to McCain's "Mavericks" ad released this morning. (Linked to in previous post.) Want evidence the Obama campaign is worried about Gov. Sarah Palin? Look no further than this ad, which attacks her, too. Here's the script Obama VO: I’m Barack Obama and I approved this message. ANNOUNCER: They call themselves mavericks. Whoa. Truth is…they’re anything but. John McCain is hardly a maverick…when 7 of his top campaign advisors are Washington lobbyists. He’s no maverick when he votes with Bush 90% of the time. ANNCR: And Sarah Palin’s no maverick either. She...

For John McCain and Sarah Palin, it was "mission accomplished" at last week's Republican National Convention. The GOP senator from Arizona and his surprise running mate, the governor of Alaska, got the party's grassroots activists revved into fighting mode - and sent them out fully charged for battle against the Democrats. But appealing to the true believers in the GOP arena was the easy part. Now comes the reality check for the brutal 60-day campaign sprint against the Democratic ticket of Sens. Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Can McCain-Palin sell themselves as the agents of change - and distance themselves...
