The man behind such classics as "Keep on Pushing" and "Superfly" will be the focus of upcoming projects, including new recordings, DVDs & memorabilia. Curtis Mayfield’s storied music career will mark its 60th anniversary next year. To celebrate the occasion -- and Mayfield’s still influential legacy -- the late soul icon’s estate is ramping up multiple projects. The slate includes a website, new recordings, merchandise, DVDs and a documentary. “It’s taken some time to put things in order,” says Altheida Mayfield, Mayfield's widow. “Now it’s time to celebrate and re-evaluate his legacy; to let him touch people’s hearts again. But...

I need some advice. I have a rather large collection of vinyl records that I plan to record to an external computer hard drive. The record player that I have uses i-tunes to process each cut onto the computer. Does anyone on here have any experience with this that could maybe recommend a different/better idea to handle saving everything on to the hard drive. I am looking for flexibility in moving the finished product between computers. This is going to be a pretty long-term project, what with cigar and bourbon breaks, and I want to get it as near right...
  • Interesting Question: At What Point Do People Have Their “Musical Midlife Crisis”?

    A Journal of Musical Things ^ | April 24, 2015 | Alan Cross
For all of us, we have a musical sweet spot in our lives. It happens roughly between the ages of 14 and 24, from the time we enter high school to the time life begins to intrude with its demands of jobs, mortgages and families. During that period, almost nothing is more important to us than music. It not only becomes a personal obsession but something we use to proclaim our identity to the rest of the world. But after about 24, we just don’t have the time (and often the interest) to indulge in our musical passions as much...

Welcome to my song "Demonicide." This is my first attempt at thrash metal, and while I know that the lyrics are supposed to be shocking, I fear that these lyrics may shock even the most hardened fan. You've been warned.A few notes about the song: 1. I write and record my music under the pen name Hopalong Ginsberg. If youse has ta ask why, youse ain't never gonna unnerstan'. 2. A free MP3 of the song may be downloaded here or here. If you click here I cannot be held responsible. 3.

Can the skirts get any shorter on Fox news? (the men needn't answer) What happened to the days when a lady crossed her legs discretly at the ankles? Are high stools necessary to report the news? (Fox & Friends First, Megyn Kelly) Is Roger Ailes in charge of skirt check? All of the skirts seem to be the same length. They don't come that way from the store. Today on "Outnumbered" you could see to the bottom of the hips on all of the panelists when they were seated. Note I said "hips", not the other word. Dana Perino from...

Happy birthday, Glen Campbell! The singer was born on this day, April 22, in 1936. Campbell was born the seventh of 12 children to John Campbell, a sharecropper, and his wife Carrie. After his uncle, known as “Boo,” taught Campbell to play the guitar as a child, the future star relocated to Albuquerque, N.M., as a teenager, to play in his uncle’s band. In 1958, Campbell formed his own band, the Western Wranglers, and in 1960, he relocated to Los Angeles to become a session musician. Campbell’s debut album, Big Bluegrass Special, was released in 1962 on Capitol Records, but...

  • Will FOX Pull the Plug on American Idol?

    04/18/2015 5:35:10 PM PDT · by SeekAndFind · 14 replies
American Idol ratings hit a series low last week, dropping to a 1.4 in the desirable 18-49 demographic. Even when head to head competition with The Voice was no longer a threat (the rival show aired a special results show at 8 pm) the numbers stayed flat this week. Once the highly rated FOX show, Empire left the Wednesday night lineup, the show began to falter. The Wrap notes, however, that Idol is still ahead of the final season of the cancelled X Factor. Heading into this week the two regular editions of “Idol” were averaging a combined 2.9 rating...

Tim McGraw is facing a backlash from country music fans who say that his decision to headline a concert for a gun control charity could end his career. The Louisiana-raised singer is scheduled to raise money with a Hartford, Connecticut show on July 17 for the Sandy Hook Promise group, which organized in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in late 2012. However, anti-gun control commenters have said that McGraw, 47, risks losing his career the same way female country trio the Dixie Chicks never bounced back from criticizing President George W Bush. The conservator pro-gun blog Bearing...
