Sunday’s slaying of two Las Vegas policemen raises to 23 the number of law enforcement officers killed by gunfire this year, a 53 percent increase over the tally at this time last year, which is spurring concern about the influence of radical groups. After shooting the policemen at point-blank range, the husband and wife killers took the officers’ weapons and reportedly covered them with a Revolutionary War-era Gadsden flag, which depicts a coiled snake and the words “Don’t Tread on Me.” The officers’ killers — Jerad Miller and his wife, Amanda — had been at Cliven Bundy’s ranch during his...

Jerad and Amanda Miller had been kicked off a Nevada ranch where anti-government protesters faced down federal agents earlier this year because they were "very radical," according to the son of rancher Cliven Bundy. Ammon Bundy, one of Cliven Bundy's sons, said by telephone that the Millers were at his father's ranch for a few days this spring before they were asked to leave by militia members for unspecified "conduct" problems. He called the couple "very radical" and said they "did not align themselves" with the beliefs of other protesters, who thwarted a roundup of Cliven Bundy's cattle by the...

The $1.7 million deal closed Friday, according to the Las Vegas Sun. Mr. Reid grew up poor in the dusty mining town of Searchlight, about 60 miles south of Las Vegas, but as a lawmaker he managed to accumulate a personal fortune estimated at $5...

Neighbors of the couple who ambushed two police officers Sunday in Las Vegas told local newspapers the pair had bragged about spending time at Cliven Bundy’s ranch during the standoff with the federal government earlier this year. The two suspects, whose names have not yet been released, fatally shot two police officers who were having lunch at a CiCi’s Pizza restaurant before killing a third person at a nearby Wal-Mart. The female suspect then shot the male suspect and then herself in an apparent suicide pact. Neighbors in an apartment complex where the two suspects lived said they “had a...

“I believe that some colleges may potentially be afraid of having a bad reputation and that would be a reason it could be swept under the rug, because they don’t want that to come out into the public,”Nia Sanchez said. “But I think more awareness is very important so women can learn how to protect themselves. Myself, as a fourth-degree black belt, I learned from a young age that you need to be confident and be able to defend yourself. And I think that’s something that we should start to really implement for a lot of women.”

The Las Vegas police shooters were identified as two Neo-Nazi socialists. Neighbors said “Jared” and “Amanda” had talked about killing police officers then going underground until the time was right to come out and kill some more. They were also meth-heads. The conspiracy nuts were drug addicts. The Las Vegas Review Journal reported: The shooters were a married couple thought to be in their late 20s who were new to the Las Vegas Valley, according to a law enforcement official close to the investigation. Police are looking into their links to the white supremacy movement and found swastika symbols during...

The officers’ conditions were not immediately available. The shooters were still at large as of noon. Metro’s SWAT team is there. Police have cordoned off most of the store parking lot. A California pastor is being extradited to Nevada on a murder charge in the death of a man outside a Las Vegas sports bar -- despite claims by witnesses that the father of two was acting in self-defense. Robert Cox, of Manteca, Calif., claims he did not throw a punch at Link Ellingson, knocking him to the ground and causing a mortal head injury. But prosecutors claim Cox changed his story, first telling officers he punched Ellingson after the man threatened him outside Four Kegs bar, and then later claiming in a written statement that he grabbed Ellingson by the...

Have you seen the front page of the Las Vegas Sun website today? Erin Bilbray’s liberal activist friends over at Occupy CIR have literally covered it with attack ads against Dr. Joe Heck over his stance on immigration reform. Joe has been clear that we need real solutions to improve our broken immigration system – but he will NOT be bullied into amnesty by Erin Bilbray and her liberal activist friends. We cannot let Erin Bilbray and her liberal activist friends get away with these purely partisan attacks!

Reid calls it 'a big deal over nothing'. The Democratic Party seems to have a go-to line to reflect apathy for controversial issues plaguing the Obama administration. Asked about why he seemed to be the only one notified about the deal to retrieve Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl before it was made, Harry Reid bristled at the question. “I’m not sure I’m the only one,” he said. “A big deal over nothing. Is it Friday or is it Saturday? What difference does it make? What difference does it make?” Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton infamously snapped, “What difference at this point...

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., was only too happy to point out just how “disconnected from reality” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is for saying he’s “glad” the five most senior members of the Taliban held at Guantanamo were released.

An Associated Press analysis of federal temperature records shows Carson City has warmed the most than any other city in the nation in the last 30 years. The average temperature in Carson City has risen 4.1 degrees since 1984. Boise, Idaho, came in second, posting a rise of 4 degrees. Las Vegas, known for its sweltering summers, was sixth, with an increase of 3.4 degrees. But it's the boost in summertime heat that really makes Carson City stand out.

Tea Party Patriots has filed a complaint against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) with the Senate Ethics Committee to protest his repeated attacks against Charles and David Koch. Jenny Beth Martin, the co-founder of Tea Party Patriots, filed the complaint, charging Reid with “unlawfully and unethically targeting private citizens.” The complaint further states that Reid “has misused Senate staff or resources to engage in partisan campaign activity in violation of federal laws and Senate rules.” Reid has repeatedly slammed the Koch brothers, two of the richest men in the world, for funding attack ads against Democratic candidates. Americans for...

This Memorial Day Weekend, one of Northern Nevada’s oldest veterans was allegedly robbed and held at gun point in his Carson City home. World War II and Air Force veteran Jim Sorentino lives alone with a caretaker. He’s 101-years-old, and he said in his lifetime, he has never experienced anything like this home invasion. He said it was around 5 a.m. on Sunday when two men kicked in a rear-garage door, and forced their way into Sorentino’s home in a gated community on Canvasback Drive. They held him and his female caretaker at gun point. "The older one, the bigger...
