New unemployment statistics show a continued upturn in D.C., Maryland and Virginia, with D.C. suffering the most. In January, seasonally adjusted unemployment rates were 9.3 percent in D.C., 6.2 percent in Maryland and 6.0 percent in Virginia. The Bureau of Labor Statistics report, released Wednesday, showed a 1.1 point increase for D.C. from December 2008; 1.0 points for Virginia; and 0.8 points for Maryland.
