Jeanine F. Pirro, the new Republican challenger for Hillary Rodham Clinton's Senate seat, said yesterday that she opposed the procedure that critics call partial-birth abortion, after taking a muddier stance on the issue four years ago.Ms. Pirro, a favorite of moderate Republicans whose new position will probably help her woo the conservative voters she needs, said in an interview that she decided to oppose the procedure - except to protect the life of the woman - after researching and reflecting on the issue. But Ms. Pirro drew harsh criticism yesterday from abortion-rights groups, who accused her of changing a position that...

WASHINGTON - Democrats should welcome more pro-life candidates into their party and embrace the language of "life" used by opponents of abortion, said the defeated Democratic presidential candidate, Senator Kerry. Mr. Kerry yesterday praised a recent speech by Senator Clinton in which she described abortion as "tragic" and called for people on both sides of the abortion debate to find "common ground."

San Francisco, CA (LifeNews.com) -- A leading pro-life law firm has filed a legal brief in another of three lawsuits abortion advocates put forward challenging the federal ban on partial-birth abortions. The brief, submitted by the American Center for Law and Justice, represents the views of thirty-one pro-life members of Congress. The brief asks a federal appeals court in San Francisco to overturn a decision issued by U.S. District Court Judge Phyllis Hamilton declaring the ban unconstitutional because it lacks a health exception. "The ban is needed to put an end to one of the most barbaric and medically useless...

Soon-to-be Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Sunday that he could support Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia if President Bush nominates him to head the high court, but he bristled at the prospect that Bush could tap Scalia's colleague Clarence Thomas, calling him "an embarrassment." Asked by Tim Russert about Scalia as a possible chief justice, Sen. Reid told NBC's "Meet the Press," "I cannot dispute the fact, as I have said, that this is one smart guy." Reid added that while he usually disagrees with Scalia's opinions, "his reason for arriving at those results are very hard to...

In two newspaper interviews before the election, Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter promised to block pro-life and "extremist" judges appointed by President Bush, apparently contradicting claims he is making now amid fierce opposition to his becoming chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. A third paper, the Philadelphia Inquirer, endorsed the pro-abortion senator largely because of his anticipated position on the panel. Sen. Arlen Specter at town hall meeting (Photo: Williamsport Sun-Gazette) The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's editorial board published an endorsement Oct. 24, stating it prized Specter's independence. "The best argument for his staying on is his seniority, which puts him in line...

(CNSNews.com) - With the chairmanship of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee at stake, activists from both sides of the abortion debate weighed in Tuesday on the qualifications of Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Arlen Specter. The growing controversy over Specter's possible ascendancy to the post includes a May 1995 campaign fundraising letter that Specter mailed at a time when he was seeking the 1996 Republican nomination for president. The letter, which slammed anti-abortion policies and labeled pro-life activists "extremists," was re-published Friday by a conservative website, GrassrootsPA.com, and authenticated Tuesday for CNSNews.com by a former member of the Pennsylvania Republican State...

Canberra, Nov. 02 (CNA/CWNews.com) - Following the release of recent statistics from the state of South Australia suggesting that the majority of women who have late-term abortions do so for reasons of mental health, acting Prime Minister John Anderson has called for a debate on Australia's late-term abortion policy. It is time to "welcome a wider debate to re-examine our understanding of medical science and the law," said Anderson, according to a report in The Australian newspaper. However, he also said that any change in the law would have to reflect attitudes of the community, "from the bottom up." Some...

Why are our boys failing to grow up? One reason is the incredible impact of the birth control pill on society, especially in how women are deceived by its so-called benefits. These days fertility clinics are overflowing with shell-shocked middle aged men and women. Of course, most of them spent years not questioning those 'benefits'. If you have ever sat in one, you'll know the mood of the waiting room is unlike any other doctor's office. The eyes of many of the women look like caged rabbits in a research lab, waiting for that next unexpected jab. The dutiful husbands...

Side-by-Side Comparison Between President Bush and Kerry on Three Moral Issues. This flyer does not directly tell the reader who to vote for so it does not "violate" the first amendment as interpreted by our liberal courts (yet). New Flyer For Distribution in ChurchesWeb Page to Match

(I want New Yorkers, and anybody who watches "Sex and the City" or otherwise models their sensibilities on Big Apple chic, to Google the following piece and discover that—SHOCK! HORROR!—somebody who has or had "good" cultural values actually supports the president.) Please note that not every personal revelation in the following piece is something I'm proud of—but it's all true:"My idea of an ideal Saturday is catching a ride with a friend or family, and going to garage sales and flea markets, and I am voting for George W. Bush. * My favorite clothes come from thrift stores, and I...

The British Pregnancy Advisory Service, the NHS-funded charity that is the country's largest abortion provider, is facilitating illegal late terminations of healthy pregnancies for hundreds of women without medical justification, an investigation by The Telegraph has revealed. Extensive covert video and audio recordings exposed a horrific underground industry in which women carrying healthy foetuses beyond the 24-week legal cutoff and who want to end their pregnancies for "social" reasons, travel to an abortion clinic in Spain on the recommendation of BPAS. The organisation refers them there as a matter of "policy". Staff at the Clinica Ginemedex in Barcelona, last week...

John Kerry did something last night that has opened this election up into a new realm that has been largely ignored. His stance on Partial Birth Abortion. Pope John Kerry tried to spin his views on the question on whether or not as President if he would use ANY tax dollars to fund anything to do with Abortion. This was clearly a Kerry/Deer In The Headlights moment if there ever was one. Kerry tried to come off like he was a responsible Catholic. One who understood and respected the woman's emotions on the matter. A Divorced Catholic who has nothing...

I GOT THIS TODAY FROM PLANNED PARENTHOOD'S FEDERAL ACTION FUND... Got Curves? Last week, a socially conscious pro-choice advocate asked The New York Times Magazine Ethicist this poignant question: "I am in my month's trial membership at the fitness chain Curves, and I love it. I must decide whether to sign up for a year, and I've learned that the owner of the company financially supports pro-life efforts, whereas I am pro-choice. Do I have a duty to give up my Curves membership?" Many people often ask Planned Parenthood this very same question and we applaud columnist Robert Cohen for...

Analyzing the Effects of State Legislation on the Incidence of Abortion During the 1990s by Michael J. New, Ph.D. Center for Data Analysis Report #04-01 January 21, 2004 | | The 1990s saw both the election and re-election of a "pro-choice" President.1 However, the "pro-life" movement made considerable gains at the state and local levels. Survey data indicate that by the end of the decade, more people supported restrictions on abortion and fewer supported discretionary abortion.2Meanwhile, the actual number of abortions declined during the decade. For the 46 states reporting data to the Centers for Disease Control and...

There are speeches yet to go at the Republican Convention, as I write this. President Bush will speak tonight, and of course the most important speech given at any party convention is the one by its nominee. Still, without fear of being proven wrong, in my opinion the most powerful and evocative speech at this Convention was given yesterday. By a Democrat, Senator Zell Miller. The title which summarizes his work is just one letter different from the catch phrase made famous in the Oscar-winning performance of Peter Finch in the 1976 classic, Network. Finch played Howard Beale, the TV...

This is outside my usual area of discussion, but (1) living in Michigan, I was intrigued by the historic role Detroit played in John Kerry's "aid and comfort to the enemy" saga, and (2) my late father was a U.S. Marine who survived Pearl Harbor and served during both WWII and the Korean War, which means I was raised to have strong feelings about that "aid and comfort" stuff. If those Swift Boat guys remain on the ball as they have so far, I'll bet the information below eventually becomes the subject of one of their ads. It certainly should....

Michael Hoffman, of the Iraq Veterans Against the War, recently interviewed on Fox News, advocates the same violence promoted by Malcom X and finds friends among Marxist Socialists. In his strange interview on the Fox News Oreilly Factor, Hoffman said he opposed the war before it started because he knew that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. Now just how did he know that since even current opponents of the war agreed with the President before the war that Iraq had WMDs?... Remainder of Story at: http://www.grassboots.org
