John Daly has been suspended for six months by the PGA Tour for conduct that brought unwelcome publicity, including a night in a North Carolina jail to sober up. “Is it fair that I got suspended? It’s not fair in reality, but it’s probably fair in perception,” he told The Associated Press on Wednesday. This is the second time the tour has suspended the two-time major champion, along with at least two other times he agreed to take time off to get his life in order. The 42-year-old Daly called this the lowest point in his wild 18-year career.

When you hear the words "Hooters," "John Daly" and "extremely intoxicated" in the same sentence, you know where this story is going. In the latest chapter of Daly's longtime struggle with alcohol abuse, he was held overnight in a North Carolina jail after passing out at a Hooters restaurant... According to police, Daly "appeared extremely intoxicated and uncooperative." Daly again refused to go to the hospital and was eventually asked to leave by Hooters employees... Because Daly had no transportation, police said they held him in custody at a local jail until he sobered up.

Tiger Woods, who went 91 holes on a wounded knee to win the U.S. Open on Monday, will have reconstructive surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will miss the rest of the 2008 PGA TOUR season. No date has been set for the surgery. Suddenly a season that had dawned with Woods saying the Grand Slam was "easily within reason" became clouded with doubt and uncertainty as he prepares for a second surgery on his left knee within 10 weeks. By missing the rest of this season, Woods will not play in either of the...

SAN DIEGO — Tiger Woods delivered a performance worthy of prime time Saturday in the U.S. Open. He kept an East Coast television audience and a sellout crowd at Torrey Pines in suspense when his left knee buckled and he nearly dropped to the ground from the sheer pain, limping along with his club as a cane. The drama came on the last six holes, when he turned a five-shot deficit into a one-shot lead. And the amazing array of shots that put him atop the leaderboard? Pure science-fiction. "The stuff he does, it's unreal," said Rocco Mediate, who watched...

John Daly has been cut loose by swing coach Butch Harmon, who said Tuesday he was not going to waste his time with a two-time major champion who is more interested in drinking than working on his golf game. ``My whole goal for him was he's got to show me golf is the most important thing in his life,'' Harmon said from his golf school in Las Vegas. ``And the most important thing in his life is getting drunk.'' Harmon said he has worked three times this year with Daly, but he said Daly's behavior at the PODS Championship was...

Then he got a phone call when he was at the entrance to Bay Hill letting him know he had been kicked out of the Arnold Palmer Invitational for missing the pro-am. “Hasn’t been a good day,” Daly told The Associated Press. “This is the last thing I needed in my life. I feel like I let Arnold down.” The wild ride of golf’s most unpredictable figure took another hairpin turn when Daly said he was given wrong information that caused him to...

Using absolutely poor judgment and acting un-professionally, PGA tour golfer Tripp Isenhour is about to pay the consequences for his selfish act from last December 12 when, at the Grand Cypress Golf course, he purposely killed a migratory bird. Showing no compassion for the habits of creatures, Isenhour, who was filming a segment for 'Shoot Like A Pro,' apparently got frustrated when the red shouldered hawk began making noises and forcing take after take. In a rage, Isenhour,

TOUR Insider: Deutsche Bank Championship  Aug. 27, 2007 By Dave Shedloski PGATOUR.com Senior Correspondent The beauty of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup this week is manifested in South Africa's Retief Goosen. (WireImage) While there are still three weeks left to decide the inaugural winner of the FedExCup, there is real urgency at this week's Deutsche Bank Championship for a number of players, including, most notably, the two-time U.S. Open champion. Tiger Woods tied a major championship record with a spectacular 63 in charging to a two-stroke lead over fellow American Scott Verplank in the second round of the U.S. PGA Championship on Friday. Woods came agonizingly close to setting the all-time low round in a major as his putt for birdie at the 18th hole spun out of the cup leaving him to tap-in for par."I knew if I made that putt on the last hole, it would have been a nice little record to have," world number one Woods said about missing the birdie putt for 62. CROMWELL, Conn. -- It was once considered not only nonessential but unnecessary, yet a drug testing policy now seems a plausible course of action in the near future for the PGA Tour. "We don't have a rule on performance-enhancing drugs," tour commissioner Tim Finchem said at the Travelers Championship on Wednesday. "We never had. We're getting close on that. I suspect we'll be done with that certainly this year. We'll probably have more to say about that later this summer." The process is a departure from previous claims made by Finchem that such a policy has no place on the...
