  • Gov. Kasich has a secret: Scandal at the education department

Gov. Kasich has a secret. He hides it well as he peddles his plain-spoken, real-deal, son-of-a-mailman sales pitch as a Republican presidential candidate in New Hampshire. The secret is secure with Kasich loyalists. Mr. Kasich is mum about the details, but a left-leaning blog with an emphasis on Ohio and national politics is on the right track. Plunderbund suggests "a scandal begging to be born" is bubbling in the governor's home state. Out-of-state media are oblivious to the disgrace at the Ohio Department of Education. Team Kasich has effectively kept the story under wraps on the campaign trail. [ ]...

Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s Obamacare expansion passed another exciting milestone last month: $6 billion in new federal spending! Can you believe how generous Kasich is with your money? He’s a regular Prince of Light and Hope.Medicaid benefits for Ohio’s 650,000 Obamacare expansion enrollees cost $406 million in December. For context, that was more than the state’s higher education and criminal justice spending combined. If you’re a fan of Obamacare, this represents a rip-roaring success. If you’re not, I should clarify that we are, in fact, talking about the John Kasich who is running for president as a Republican.Since January 2014, Kasich’s...

CONTOOCOOK, N.H. - Voters at a VFW hall and a senior center peppered the candidate with questions about global warming, income inequality and raising the minimum wage. They pressed for plans to invest in renewable energy and save Social Security. The presidential hopeful on the receiving end, however, was not Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders - it was Republican John Kasich, whose chances of advancing beyond New Hampshire's primary in 20 days likely hinge on winning over supporters who are more likely to vote for those two Democrats than for Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. The two-term Republican governor of...

Ohio Governor John Kasich is comparing candidates like Donald Trump to the “Prince of Darkness” while declaring himself as the “Prince of Light and Hope.” “Look, we have a lot of candidates who are like the ‘Prince of Darkness,’” Kasich, who reminds voters frequently that his father was a mailman, said in an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt. “I consider myself the ‘Prince of Light and Hope’ and I don’t spend all my time getting people riled up about how bad everything is.” Kasich, who struggled in the polls after he repeatedly attacked and lectured Donald Trump’s approach to...

Ohio Gov. John Kasich wants to be known in the GOP presidential race as the "prince of light and hope." Kasich is stressing his experience in Congress and painting himself as an optimistic alternative to those campaigning on the woes facing the country as he looks to shore up support in New Hampshire. "Look, we have a lot of candidates who like the prince of darkness. I consider myself the prince of light and hope," Kasich said during an interview Tuesday with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.

A Trump/Kasich two-man race for the nomination would, I think, trigger the End Times. And I’m an atheist. I’m not even supposed to believe in the End Times. Are there any conservative voters left in this party?Among Republican voters who say they’re definitely going to vote, Trump leads Kasich by … two points, 24/22. I know what the data nerds are going to say: “That’s an ARG poll and ARG has a C- rating for accuracy from FiveThirtyEight.” Fair enough. Discard it if you like but you can’t ignore the trend in New Hampshire. Go have a look at how...

With the primary just three weeks away, John Kasich appears to be enjoying something of a surge in New Hampshire. The latest ARG poll out of the state shows the Ohio governor enjoying a second place showing with 20% support. Trump leads the first-in-primary state (Iowa’s caucus is a week earlier) with 27%.

Is Trump warming to Kasich as his running mate after the last debate? If Donald Trump manages to win the Republican presidential nomination (and this is becoming less of an “if” with each passing day), then he must select a vice-presidential running mate. Surely it will be tough for The Donald to share the national ticket with anyone, but at least he will still be on top. With this decision potentially on the horizon, did Trump spontaneously drop a hint about who could be on his veep short-list during Thursday night’s Republican debate? The answer is yes. The Granite State holds its primaries in less a month, and Donald Trump has a commanding lead in the state, beating John Kasich by 15 points. While Kasich has been doing poorly in both statewide, and national polling, he seems to be doing quite well in New Hampshire. His 15% gives him enough support to take at least a few of the available delegates. Donald Trump looks to take the majority of delegates, especially if Chris Christie and Ted Cruz stay below the 10% viability threshold.

That Rubio surge is coming annnnny minute now. In fairness, he's only two points behind Kasich and Cruz in a poll with a margin of error of 4.8 percent, so he's effectively tied for second. On the other hand, how many Rubio fans are excited to find him battling John Effin' Kasich for center-right votes less than a month from primary day?

Reacting to the removal of muslim activist Rose Hamid, John Kasich says that the Trump rallygoers are "not the Republican Party." Ohio governor John Kasich lectured supporters of Donald Trump for booing a Muslim woman who was booted from a rally last night. As protesters interrupted a panel forum where Kasich and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 79% were speaking, Rubio jokingly hinted that perhaps they should resort to Trump-style tactics to deal with them. Rubio tried to resume his answer to a question, but Kasich interrupted. "I don't want to take over here ... I was on television this morning and I saw a crowd booing this woman who was being escorted," he said, alluding to Trump. "That's not the spirit...

A new, independent poll done for NH1 News has Republican Donald Trump well out in front but Jeb Bush slipping into second for the first time in months. The upward blip for the former Florida Governor Bush comes when the poll surveys both Republicans and independents likely to vote in the Feb. 9 primary. But in staggering fashion, Trump crushes the field and even more startling he opens up an even bigger lead when only women voters are surveyed. REACH Communications did the random telephone poll on Thursday of 1,000 Republicans and independents. The margin of error for the poll...

Public Policy Polling's new survey of New Hampshire shows Donald Trump leading the GOP presidential field, with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio trailing in second place. Trump leads the Granite State poll with the support of 29 percent of those surveyed, followed by Rubio at 15 percentage points, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich tied at 11 points, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tied at 10 points. When the race is narrowed to Trump, Rubio, and Cruz, Trump's lead over Rubio slims to just two percentage points, 36-34. "If the Republican...

The final Des Moines Register poll was just released, showing Donald Trump leading the Republican field in Iowa with 28 percent, Ted Cruz with 23 percent and Marco Rubio with 15 percent. Hillary Clinton was ahead of Bernie Sanders, 45 percent to 42 percent, on the Democratic side. The political world - us included - was eagerly awaiting this survey, as Ann Selzer, who has conducted the Register's polls since the 1988 caucuses, has a very good track record. But just how predictive of the final results have Selzer's polls been? History suggests they're a good indicator of what will...
