PITTSBURGH -- Police say evidence in the case against a Pittsburgh officer facing charges that he helped run a call-girl service may provide a clue to the disappearance of a Mount Washington woman. Officer Michael Johns is accused of giving drugs to prostitutes and providing vehicles to help conduct a prostitution ring. He is also accused of helping to operate an Internet site promoting the women's services.

In Kurdistan, where conservative mores still dominate despite its reputation as a haven compared to the rest of Iraq, one female MP is fighting a lonely battle: legalised prostitution. Haza Sulaiman's efforts to regulate and control the trade in northern Iraq's three Kurdish provinces have so far run into widespread opposition from rival lawmakers and religious groups, but the 44-year-old remains undeterred. We need a special law for the region -- Iraqi law is not consistent with the reality on the ground here," the women's rights activist and current chief of the Kurdish parliament's women's rights committee said. "I have...

(CNN) -- After a six-week operation dubbed "Extra Sugar," police determined that a New Jersey donut shop employee was offering more than coffee and sweets to her customers and arrested her on a prostitution-related charge, police said Tuesday. Melissa Redmond, an overnight worker at a Dunkin' Donuts shop on U.S. Route 46 in Rockaway, was arrested because she was offering sexual services for money, according to Detective Sgt. Kyle Schwarzmann of the Rockaway Borough Police Department. The original anonymous tip came in early June and police started surveillance on Redmond, 29, soon after, according to Schwarzmann.

Their dreams of the Iron Bowl turned into a reality behind iron bars. What were supposed to be coveted tickets to the 2011 Alabama-Auburn football matchup turned out to be a trip to jail for at least a dozen deadbeat parents arrested Friday by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office as part of operation Iron Snare. One by one, suspects who were wanted by authorities for a total of more than $270,000 worth of unpaid child support were arrested after arriving at a festive, football-themed location on Second Avenue in Opelika, complete with balloons, streamers and highlights of the 2010 Iron...

A senior judge has been arrested on rape charges after his alleged victim secretly filmed him carrying out the attack. Judge Albert Murdoch was also allegedly caught on the hidden tape boasting that he was above the law and would use his police contacts to make any charges go away. His arrest has led to authorities in New Mexico to look into many of the cases he presided over during a 25-year career. Murdoch, a 59-year-old criminal judge for the Second Judicial District Court in Bernalillo County in Albuquerque, was arrested on rape charges based on the hidden tape. Police...

Men who pay for sex are more likely than men who do not pay for sex to commit a variety of offenses including violent crimes against women, according to research conducted in the Boston area. The study, released this week, was based on interviews with 202 men conducted by the nonprofit group Prostitution Research and Education and was led by Melissa Farley, a clinical psychologist and anti-prostitution activist. Buyers and non-buyers of commercial sex from the Boston area were paired by age, education and ethnicity to compare their perceptions of women after voluntarily joining the study. About half the men...

Andrew Breitbart wasn’t supposed to be sitting here in a television studio makeup chair. But when he heard that Anthony Weiner was about to announce his resignation, he dropped everything. Mr. Breitbart, the conservative author and blogger who first published Mr. Weiner’s suggestive self-portraits, had ditched his book-signing in central Illinois and hopped on a flight earlier than planned to the Twin Cities, where he was booked as a marquee attraction at RightOnline, a conservative bloggers conference. “To put myself in Decatur, Ill., without a satellite connection would have put me in a bad situation,” he explained as a woman...

It's been seven months since an 11-year-old vanished from her Bronx home for five days - but horrific details of how she was turned into a sex slave are just emerging. Lured from home by a sexual predator, the fifth-grader was pimped out to a series of men in a lower East Side flat. "One man gave me $700, another gave me $1,000 and another gave me $500," the girl told the Daily News, which is withholding her name. "Maybe there were five or six men, in all." The ordeal ended after the victim managed to call her grandmother. When...

It wasn’t about the money for a pair of aging academics, police say, so much as it was about creating a place on the Internet for men and women to meet for sexual encounters without the prying eyes of law enforcement. Call it a cyber version of “The Dating Game” in which the host doesn’t get paid. Except the men were johns, the women were prostitutes, and the whole operation was a complex, online network of illegal activity. The two aging academics were a pair of longtime university professors who, according to law enforcement, were online pimps operating and moderating...

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Former University of New Mexico President F. Chris Garcia was arrested and jailed Thursday in connection with a multistate, online prostitution ring that authorities say was run by a physics professor from New Jersey. Police said Garcia, 71, and Fairleigh Dickinson professor David Flory, 68, were among seven members identified in the top echelon of the ring. Six have been arrested, and warrants have been issued for one more, Albuquerque police Chief Ray Schultz said. Investigators said the ring had some 1,400 members, including 200 prostitutes, but there was no indication that any other universities or students...

A modified Scope of Work for a U.S.-funded study of both homosexual long-haul truck drivers and female prostitutes in Angola was released this week by the Obama Administration. The updated solicitation (#2011-94188) refers to "men who have sex with men," or MSM, rather than "homosexual," and identifies prostitutes solely by the term "young women involved in transactional sex." The initiative is a component of the multi-billion-dollar, five-year President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, via the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which was launched by the White House under George W. Bush. # # #

The 2012 presidential candidate has gone off the deep end in defending the right to sell sex and drugs as personal liberty—and stretched libertarianism past the breaking point, writes Michael Medved. How would you describe a perennial presidential candidate who insists in a televised debate that government has no more right to interfere with prostitution or heroin than it does to limit people’s right to “practice their religion and say their prayers”? The phrase “crackpot” comes immediately to mind—and in any contemporary political dictionary that term would appear alongside a photograph of Congressman Ron Paul. The Mad Doctor, who proudly...

The plea of no contest was entered on behalf of Robert "Bobby" Titcomb, 49, by his lawyer in a Honolulu courtroom, but the judge granted a defense request for what is called a deferral of judgment.

Sean Whitcomb said photos of Hauff's property, his dark green Mercury Sable station wagon and Hauff himself were released Tuesday afternoon to try to reach possible victims. A spokesman for King County Prosecutor Dan Donohoe said police had referred no additional cases.
