There are many who argue that President Obama has (repeatedly) broken his promise to bring transparency and openness to the White House. In literal terms, however, Obama may not have actually broken that specific promise ,.. it’s just that people may not have understood what Obama meant by transparency and openness. ..Here’s a case in point: First Dot: Several months ago, the union world was shocked when Andy Stern, the ignominious president of the Service Employees International Union abruptly “quit” as leader of the Purple Hand. Surprise and speculation swelled. Was it the Blago Trial? Is he sick?Second Dot: Then,...

Did Trayvon Martin’s marijuana usage make him violent against George Zimmerman? Some reports are posing that controversial question now that marijuana legalization is quickly spreading across America. But while some police officers may support that contentious message others believe the controversy over Trayvon Martin, gun control, and drugs does not match up with the facts. In a related report by The Inquisitr, George Zimmerman’s lawsuit claims NBC employees purposefully edited the audio recordings of him talking to the 911 dispatcher in order to make it sound like the Hispanic man was racially profiling Trayvon. Whether or not Martin is a...

I was explaining to a new Catholic recently that the color purple (violet) used in advent is akin to its use in Lent, in that both are considered penitential seasons. Hence we are to give special attention to our sins and our need for salvation. Traditionally Advent was a time we would, like Lent take part in penitential practices such as fasting and abstinence.Of course, in recent decades Advent has almost wholly lost any real penitential practices. There is no fasting or abstinence required, they are not really even mentioned. Confession is encouraged and the readings still retain a kind...

It was that M-DSPD internal affairs investigation which revealed in October 2011 Trayvon Martin was searched by School Resource Officer, Darryl Dunn. The search of Trayvon Martin's backpack turned up at least 12 pcs of ladies jewelry, and a man's watch, in addition to a flat head screwdriver described as "a burglary tool". When Trayvon was questioned about who owned the jewelry and where it came from, he claimed he was just holding it for a "friend". A "friend" he would not name. On October 21st 2011 a burglary took place a few blocks from Krop Senior High School where...

I am a disabled combat veteran. I served in Iraq and worked in Afghanistan. I took an IED because my country asked me too, and I was injured by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan. I have a Purple Heart and an ARCOM with Valor. I fully expect to be treated differently when I am visiting another country - when I am in America I expect equality and toleration; but what I experienced today is something that I never would have thought I'd have to go through in my own country. The country I fought for! I am a skydiver with...

The odd creature was discovered by Percy and Connie Emert in Jeresey Shore, PA on Sunday. “We have bird feeders out in our yard, and the squirrels are constantly into them,” Connie told Accuweather.com. “My husband traps them and then sets them free elsewhere so they don’t get into your bird feeders.” She said she had seen the little creature on the property before, but no one would believe her. “I kept telling my husband I saw a purple one out in the yard. ‘Oh sure you did’ he kept telling me,” she added. “Well, he checked the trap around...

I was in Chicago O'Hare today and saw a cleric dressed in a purple monk's robe (it was NOT a scarlet cassock), and he was wearing a bluish jacket, business cut, with a faint purple sheen to it. He also had a gold colored rope that he wore as a belt, and the tasseled ends were almost touching the ground. He didn't look Roman Catholic, or even Episcopalian. Any idea of what he might belong to? PS, I didn't speak with him... Thanks.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker will join the flotilla of ships next week that will try to break Israel’s maritime blockade of the Gaza Strip. She says the goal is to bring supplies and raise awareness of the situation there. Last May, during a similar attempt by activists, Israel raided six ships. On one, clashes broke out and Israeli commandos killed nine people. (snip) AW: I think Israel is the greatest terrorist in that part of the world. And I think in general, the United States and Israel are great terrorist organizations themselves.

RICHMOND - After two straight years of crushing electoral defeats, Virginia Democrats know they need to do something to start winning again - they're just not sure what. Some party leaders and activists say Democrats should keep the focus on the same policies, but also must do a better job of communicating. "I think the problem is the message is not getting out,'' said C. Richard Cranwell, the outgoing chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia. "We've got to overcome the disconnect." Others say Democrats need to concentrate more on policies that Republicans have been advocating: creating jobs and cutting...

Ann Brickley, the Republican candidate in Connecticut’s first congressional district, is electrifying the conservative blogosphere with news that she is behind Congressman John Larson by only seven points in a recent poll. “We’ve been saying for quite some time that the seat is competitive,” Brickley tells Battle ’10. So competitive, in fact, that Larson has actually been campaigning. “He was at the Cromwell River Fest; they said he’s never attended that event as a matter of fact,” says Brickley. If elected, Brickley’s priority would be to “stop all this wasteful spending.” She thinks that the GOP’s “Pledge to America” is...

Just heard Glenn Beck talk about this…In the photo-op speech he gave yesterday surrounded by doctors, he had on a purple tie. Never seen him wear a purple tie before except for when he is talking about health care..I can specifically remember one other time he has done this, but I can’t recall the time/date. Is this his way of saying “I got your back” to SEIU?

We want to paint the town purple and we want to paint the nation purple with SEIU.” Video: Obama Vows to Paint the Nation SEIU Purple

A woman on her way to St. Paul really got the goat of auto repairman James Prusci. She went to Tires Plus in Winona Friday, wanting a belt replaced on her Chevy Malibu. While he was doing paperwork, she said she had a goat in her trunk. "A what?" he asked. She told him she planned to butcher it. It was painted Minnesota Viking colors - purple and gold - with Brett Favre's No. 4 shaved on its side. Favre made his Vikings debut Friday in a preseason game.

***NEWS FLASH ***"Only Gravel is Truly Green"Washington(AP) -- In yet another Orwellian announcement today, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs laid out the Obama Administration’s latest “green” proposal, namely, that grass lawns are no longer considered “green”. Gibbs emphasized that grass lawns consume enormous quantities of water, fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides, with the latter three products being produced from carbon-based fossil fuels. When asked if this means that green grass is no longer “green”, Gibbs reluctantly acknowledged that, “Yes, green is no longer green.” However, Gibbs pointed out that government scientists were working really really hard to create purple grass,...
