According to the parent of a daughter attending summer school in the Grand Blanc Community Schools, students were let out of class early last Thursday so that teachers could participate in the campaign to recall Rep. Paul Scott, R-Grand Blanc. Petition language was approved last Thursday (July 22) for the attempt to recall Scott, Chairman of the Michigan House Education Committee. The recall campaign is trying to collect more than 9,000 names by Aug. 5 in the hope of getting the recall election placed on the November ballot. Gathering that many valid signatures in such a short time frame is...

State election authorities are questioning whether a liberal group broke the law by offering both free food and free rides to vote in a hotly contested Senate recall election. Although no formal complaint had reached the state Government Accountability Board by Monday afternoon, a spokesman for the agency said it would not be legal to combine free food and transportation to the polls in the same event - even if, as the organization contends, people could take the food without boarding the buses. Local law enforcement authorities are reportedly looking into the get-out-the-vote "block parties." Five such parties were sponsored...

Madison - In an announcement destined to shake up the drive to recall politicians from both parties, the Government Accountability Board said Friday that its members would not be able to consider the recall petitions of three Democrats when they meet on Tuesday. The decision also could delay the tentatively scheduled recall election date of July 12. And it opens the possibility the board will have to go to court next week seeking more time to complete its work. The board said in a statement that petition challenges in the districts of Sens. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills); James Holperin (D-Conover);...

Kind of foolish to pull this in the era of smart phones.... but a UW-Oshkosh prof is caught enflagrante using class time to push for the recall of a state senator and Governor Walker. Would have been nice if someone from the MSM was hounddogging this sort of story, but the release comes from the state GOP: "A recording released by the Republican Party of Wisconsin exposes Professor Stephen Richards using class time to actively campaign for the recall of State Senator Randy Hopper, encouraging his students to sign recall petitions offered by circulators present in his classroom. "In...

Acrimony of budget battle not waning 2011 began with the Green Bay Packers winning the Super Bowl. Then things got really exciting in Wisconsin. Weeks of protests at the state Capitol in Madison over the Republican budget proposal were followed by a contentious campaign to turn out a state Supreme Court justice. Now the state Senate is facing a total recall. Sixteen state senators — eight Republicans and eight Democrats — have been targeted by recall committees stemming from the contentious budget-reform debate in March. That’s half of the 33-member Senate, and it might have been more but for a...

Well, when we had the White House, the Senate and the House, we spent money like a crack whore who won the Lottery. Now, the new Republican Congress that we elected in November wimped out and caved-in to Obama and Reed Friday night. They gave Obama political capital the empty-suit could have never gotten on his on. So, what are true Conservatives gonna do now? Are we gonna.... .....start Recalling some of the wimps who caved Friday night including Michelle Bachmann and John Boner, get behind a real man like Donald Trump or are we going to finally organize "The...

Republicans being targeted: -Sen. Alberta Darling — The 8th district takes in parts of Waukesha, Washington, Ozaukee and Milwaukee counties. While the Milwaukee county portion (the upper East side) is strongly Democratic, Ozaukee went 72%, Washington went 76% and Waukesha went 73% for Prosser. The Democrats are fighting hard for this seat, but I see Darling as safe. -Sen. Robert Cowles — The 2nd District takes in parts of Shawno, Oconto, Outagamie, Waupaca and Brown counties, and all went for Prosser in the 60% range. -Sen. Glenn Grothman — The 20th District takes in southern Sheboygan and most of Washington...

WASHINGTON – The U.S. government says candy imported from Pakistan called Toxic Waste Nuclear Sludge is not safe to eat. Who would have guessed? The Food and Drug Administration announced that the U.S. distributor of Nuclear Sludge chew bars is recalling the candy because of lead contamination. No one has been sickened, but the FDA said elevated lead content could be harmful to small children, infants and pregnant women. The candies were manufactured in Pakistan. Indianapolis-based Candy Dynamics said it would stop selling all Nuclear Sludge candy in the U.S. The candy is wrapped in bright yellow caution-like tape, and...

The decorative enamel on the superhero and Oz sets - made in China and purchased at a Warner Brothers Studios store in Burbank - contained between 16 percent and 30.2 percent lead. The federal limit on children's products is 0.03 percent. The same glasses also contained relatively high levels of the even-more-dangerous cadmium, though there are no federal limits on that toxic metal in design surfaces.

NOWY TARG, Poland – With every step toward the gate, Jerzy Bielecki was certain he would be shot. The day was July 21, 1944. Bielecki was walking in broad daylight down a pathway at Auschwitz, wearing a stolen SS uniform with his Jewish sweetheart Cyla Cybulska by his side. His knees buckling with fear, he tried to keep a stern bearing on the long stretch of gravel to the sentry post. The German guard frowned at his forged pass and eyed the two for a period that seemed like an eternity — then uttered the miraculous words: "Ja, danke" —...

A warning to any Freepers who may have had rubber valve stems installed in their tires between August 2006 and May 2008 at Sears or elsewhere. They are potentially some of the 6 million that were sold in the U.S. by Dill Air Control products and others. They may crack and fail allowing slow leaks and a crash hazard. This happened to me on April 11.

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is marking Holocaust Remembrance Day with a statement honoring the memory of "those who endured the horrors" of the Nazi atrocities of World War II. We did some public records searches (thanks to the help of Gawker's John Cook) and found Sikes and his wife Patty found themselves, like many in the California real estate business, on the bursting side of the real estate bubble last year. The two declared bankruptcy in June of 2008 and have a combined liability of over $700,000 dollars in debt.

By | Published: Between you and me, Toyota really messed this one up. The company long known for its meticulous quality and, by extension, its meticulous customer care drove completely off the rails in recent years, churning out ever larger production batches, ever faster, even as quality control declined inversely. That led to the recall of more than 8 million vehicles across a slew of Toyota brands. The company did this — and this is where the customer care part gets really murky — only after the failure of what appears to be a Machiavellian effort to silence its customers’...
