Okay, the Russians have invaded Ukraine, Obama is probably playing golf, another few hundred "uninvited guests" have arrived at our Southern border, and Germany and Argentina are gearing up for The World Cup Final. My big concern, however, is finding the BEST recipe for my new 1.5 quart ice cream maker.

    one man's opinion...
The 4th of July three-day weekend starts tomorrow. For many Americans, especially our fellow FReepers.. it'll be a well needed respite from the real world. Many will hit the beach, or a ball game, see a parade, watch fireworks. For a lot of us...it means grilling...cooking meat the way it was intended to be cooked, OUTDOORS..with lots of awesome sides. So, if that's in your plans ( or even if you're just thinking about it) feel free to share ideas, recipes, rubs..

When it comes to comfort food, it’s hard to beat macaroni and cheese, a longtime staple of Southern kitchens with recipes as varied as the cooks who make them. But even in this crowded field, Carrie Morey’s version stands out. Cooked in a cast iron skillet with vermicelli instead of macaroni, Caroline’s Macaroni Pie combines the lightness of a soufflé with the ease of a casserole–which is just the way Morey, founder of Callie’s Charleston Biscuits, likes it. “It’s the first thing I mastered cooking at age nine, and it’s the only macaroni and cheese I’ve ever known,” she says....

Syrian Rebel Bites Heart of Dead Soldier: Video BEIRUT (Reuters) - A video of a Syrian rebel commander cutting the heart out of a soldier and biting into is emblematic of a civil war that has rapidly descended into sectarian hatred and revenge killings, Human Rights Watch said on Monday. The New York-based group said an amateur video posted on the Internet on Sunday shows Abu Sakkar, a founder of the rebel Farouq Brigade who is well known to journalists as an insurgent from Homs, cutting into the torso of a dead soldier. The video has caused outrage among both...

Spicy Soup Burns Hole Straight Through Man's Stomach Doctors in China were dumbfounded after seeing the case of a 26-year-old man whose spicy food burned a hole in the wall of his stomach. For some more adventurous eaters, spicy foods are often an exciting dish to try. After all, though urban legends had proclaimed that eating spicy foods could give you an ulcer, the credit for that belongs to the Helicobacter pylori. That is why doctors in the Hubei province of China were dumbfounded after seeing the case of a 26-year-old man whose spicy food, they say, burned a hole...

Kosher salt is a large flake salt that can be found next to the table salt. o 2 Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F. Cooking steak without overcooking it is all about hitting it with a lot of heat very quickly. o 3 Place the cast iron frying pan onto the stove top on high heat. This will preheat the pan. Recipes for the Post-Apocalypse: How and Why to Eat Rat Meat Rat is a readily available street food in some Southeast Asian countries, and earlier editions of The Joy of Cooking contained instructions on the proper butchering of squirrels. But rodents have fallen out of favor in most Western cuisines, relegated to mere vermin. So how would you go about cooking a rat if you'd never tried it before? Laura Ginn did just that recently, breaking her lengthy vegetarianism to how to butcher and prepare rodent meat. Ginn is an artist whose work largely incorporates survival skills such as skinning...
