On his father’s farm in Rutland, Jim Irving and his family were out walking when he spotted a few bits of ancient pottery scattered on the ground. Little did he know that further investigation into this would lead to the discovery of an extraordinary 1,700-year-old Roman mosaic, depicting Achilles and the Trojan War from The Iliad, and the remains of an ancient villa. Upon finding these traces during lockdown in 2020, Irving accessed satellite imagery and discovered a cropmark, and after a preliminary search he contacted the Historic Environment team at Leicestershire County Council, who in turn reached out to...

Particularly egregious was his using the might of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to target groups that disagreed with his political views. And heel dragging at the IRS continues. This week Judicial Watch...

Judicial Watch Targeted by Obama Administration Federal Contractor Tells Local Official to Keep Syria Refugee Plans Secret Judicial Watch Targeted by Obama Administration Three years ago we reported on videos produced by the Government Services Administration (GSA) that show senior GSA officials and staff participating in costumed playacting and parodies. The jog is initiated by Ben Kochanski, deputy regional commissioner,...

Vermont citizens, who are not happy that they were blindsided by their mayor who quietly invited 100 Syrians to resettle in the small city, have succeeded in getting enough signatures on a petition to bring the issue before voters…but get this! The mayor says he isn’t sure he will put it on the ballot!

Surprise! After Secret Talks, Small Vermont City Gets Muslim Migrants Mayor wanted no public discussion of “possible links to terrorism.” May 17, 2016 Robert Spencer The Boston Globe reported last Friday that Christopher Louras, mayor of the small Vermont city of Rutland, “has unveiled a plan, developed in near-secrecy, to resettle 100 Syrian refugees who fled the onslaught of the Islamic State and are exiled in sprawling Jordanian camps.” The plan will “gradually send Rutland more Syrian refugees than are currently living anywhere else in New England.” While the Globe is clearly pleased at Rutland’s “instant cultural diversity...

About 100 Syrian refugees are being placed in a small city in Vermont, the home of socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, and they are not getting an altogether warm welcome. In fact, when residents of Rutland, Vermont, found out about the secretly negotiated deal to seed their community with migrants from a Middle Eastern hotbed of Sunni radicalism, they were livid. They packed a local library for an “informational” meeting Thursday night. At least 20 of them stood outside with protest signs, demanding that their mayor explain why he negotiated the entire deal with the federal resettlement contractors behind closed doors...

(WSYB ("We Serve You Best") AM 1380 in Rutland VT dropped Rush Limbaugh. Here are some listener comments...there was a "drop Rush on WSYB" petition drive but I don't know if that was the reason Rush was pulled (in favor of Jim Rome). It could have been a cost factor. Anyway: --No more Rush? No reason to listen. Seems the GM politics stated clearly in the Rutland Herald article a few months ago trump station viability. But what the heck. The liberal management will just go elsewhere to make a living leaving local employees out of work. It is what...

BOX SPRINGS — James Rutland, one-time hurdler at Georgia and later a successful high-school coach, handed me an air rifle — a Red Ryder Daisy model with no sights — and said that before the afternoon was over, he would have me hitting a penny with the BB gun. At the outset, I had difficulty hitting golf-ball — and baseball-sized plastic balls that lay motionless on the ground. And he is going to have me shooting a penny out of the air! Even I didn’t believe that was possible. However, he had more confidence in me than I had in...

A federal judge has rejected the latest bid by a West Rutland man to get a vanity plate with a biblical message. U.S. District Court Judge J. Garvan Murtha agreed with an earlier ruling by a federal magistrate denying Shawn Byrne's request for an injunction against the state Department of Motor Vehicles. The injunction would have allowed Byrne to get his vanity license plate with "JN36TN."

Board declines to take anti-war vote February 19, 2003 (from the Rutland County section) By BRENT CURTIS Herald Staff Protesters opposed to war with Iraq made an unsuccessful bid Tuesday for support from the Rutland Board of Aldermen. About 15 anti-war protesters, most wearing green shirts with slogans like “Why Should Vermonters Die for Texas Oil Billionaires,” came to the board’s regular meeting seeking support for a resolution opposing unilateral military action against Iraq. Sister Judith Levins of the Sisters of St. Joseph read the proposed resolution. About an equal number of people who favor going to war also filled...
