FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT:Chris Wysocki August 12, 2003 (916) 444-1502 ANOTHER MAJOR ENDORSEMENT FOR SAMUELIAN National Rifle Association Latest to Join Long List of Samuelian Supporters (Sacramento, CA) - The National Rifle Association (NRA) today announced its endorsement of Assemblyman Steve Samuelian in his re-election campaign. The NRA endorsement is crucial to success in Republican primary elections all across California, and this major boost to the Samuelian campaign is further evidence that Samuelian is dominating the 29th Assembly District contest. Despite numerous attempts by Samuelian's challenger opponents to gain the NRA's support, the organization chose to strongly support Samuelian. "Assemblyman...

Mike Villines ignited political dynamite Thursday afternoon when he announced his candidacy for the 29th Assembly District's Republican nomination. Before sunset, Assembly Republican Leader Dave Cox had weighed in on the race. By Friday morning, fax machines were working overtime and e-mails were flying as if it were the closing days of a hotly contested election.

DerManuel reporting that ALL MAJOR Fresno Republicans are rallying to see the ouster of Samuelian from office. Samuelian continues to shun voters, and offer smug retorts to his alleged actions to solicit in seedy parts of Fresno. See his statement below.... Samuelian in dispute with critic By John Ellis The Fresno Bee (Published Saturday, February 1, 2003, 5:15 AM) Last week, a person spoke at a Fresno County Republican Central Committee meeting about the professional conduct of Clovis Assembly Member Steve Samuelian. Clayton Smith, a Fresno resident who works in the building industry and is active in local GOP...

A little bit of background. Duly-elected State Assemblyman Steve Samuelian is one of the most fierce conservative Republicans in the State of California. He's also a human being. About three weeks ago on a Saturday night at 9:45 he drove into a gas station to ask for directions. The female police officer gave him directions and then sent him on his way.

"There is insufficient admissible evidence” to charge Assemblyman Steve Samuelian on a misdemeanor charge of loitering for the purpose of soliciting an act of prostitution, the Fresno City Attorney’s Office ruled Thursday. More than two weeks after Samuelian, R-Clovis, was stopped by police officers, City Attorney Hilda Cantu Montoy announced her decision to a packed room of reporters and at Fresno City Hall. She said: “This office has an aggressive policy for prosecuting these types of cases. The evidence presented indicated there was reason to believe that a violation of Fresno Municipal Code 8-107 occurred. We carefully and thoroughly considered...

I am absolutely appalled at the un-American treatment Steve Samuelian is receiving from the media and some opportunistic Republicans. We have come to expect the media to exploit a story; that's their job. However, for influential Republicans to pile on without so much as a phone call to Assemblyman Samuelian is unconscionable. Stopping at a gas station to get directions may be illegal in Cuba or Iraq, but this is America! The assemblyman committed no crime. The "thought police" are apparently making the rounds in Fresno deciding what they think people might be thinking. This is scary, folks. This apparent...

Five prominent Valley Republicans, including two members of Congress, called Sunday on Steve Samuelian to resign from the state Assembly. Their two-paragraph joint statement came a week after the Clovis Republican was pulled over on Parkway Drive, a known area for prostitution in Fresno. Police did not issue a citation, but after further investigation recommended that Samuelian be cited for loitering for the purpose of soliciting an act of prostitution. In 1998, Samuelian was cited for that violation on the same stretch of Parkway Drive. "Assemblyman Samuelian's recent indiscretion is reprehensible, and establishes a pattern of behavior that is unbecoming...

Loitering report leads Der Manouel, Duncan to withdraw support. Two of Steve Samuelian's staunchest supporters distanced themselves from the state Assembly member Friday after learning that Fresno police stopped him last week in an area known for prostitution. Republican strategist Michael Der Manouel Jr. issued a statement saying the incident "greatly compromises" Samuelian's effectiveness as a legislator. Der Manouel played a key role in Samuelian's battle for the Republican nomination to the 29th Assembly District in 2002.Fresno City Council Member Jerry Duncan, in another statement, said: "I'm so disappointed in Steve. It's a real tragedy for his family, not to mention...

Some of you know that my husband (freeper Lager) works for Assemblyman Mike Briggs (R-Clovis). Briggs ran for the new congressional district seat and lost in the primary back in March. (Yes, it was a devastating blow; you have no idea.) Anyway, Mike Briggs will be leaving the Assembly but last night Steve Samuelian, a fine young Armenian, won big with 62% of the vote. We had a victory celebration at the Bulldog Brewery in Fresno last night. It was great. Steve Samuelian is going to make a great, VERY CONSERVATIVE Assemblyman! Yahoo! For victory & freedom!!!
