Gore to young advocates: Battle industry lobbyists to turn the tide on climate By Ben Geman - 04/15/11 09:10 PM ET Al Gore told young green energy advocates Friday that progress on global warming must come from a strong grassroots movement that can counter the oil and coal lobbies, which he alleged have “paralyzed” governments. Gore – who compared action on global warming to the Civil Rights movement – was the keynote speaker at Power Shift 2011, a Washington, D.C. conference attended largely by college students. “It’s true that governments by and large have been politically paralyzed because the energy...

While the Imam behind plans for a mosque near Ground Zero was jetting around the globe and advocating for his Downtown project, a pair of dilapidated apartment buildings he owns in New Jersey fell into such disrepair that cops have to stand watch in the event of a fire. The fire watch, at taxpayer expense, was revealed during a court hearing today when Union City lawyers asked to have two buildings owned by Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf placed into receivership so that rent s could be used to fix dozens of violations, including inoperable alarms and sprinklers. Rauf skipped today’s

EXCERPT "I think they should but they won't. They intended exactly what they did. "They were looking for the result they got yesterday," she said of Fox. "I am just a pawn. I was just here. They are after a bigger thing, they would love to take us back to where we were many years ago. Back to where black people were looking down, not looking white folks in the face, not being able to compete for a job out there and not be a whole person."

Jay McKinnon, a self-described Department of Homeland Security-trained document specialist, has implicated himself in the production of fraudulent Hawaii birth certificate images similar to the one endorsed as genuine by the Barack Obama campaign, and appearing on the same blog entry where the supposedly authentic document appears. The evidence of forgery and manipulation of images of official documents, triggered by Israel Insider's revelation of the collection of Hawaii birth certificate images on the Photobucket site and the detective work of independent investigative journalists and imaging professionals in the three weeks since the publication of the images, implicate the Daily Kos,...

Barbara Boxer seems to have forgotten a great American tradition: The fact that we are a nation of unity and patriotism when it comes to supporting our troops. That’s why her attack on Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s patriotism is so outrageous. When our country fights evil, our hearts and souls are engaged not because my son or daughter, or your children, or your neighbor's children fight for freedom; we unify over the fact that America's sons and daughters are fighting for freedom. As the mother of three and the wife of a retired naval officer, it has never occurred...

Here in New York, the Rev. Al Sharpton tends to be seen as a perennial political outsider and gadfly - his detractors inevitably dismiss him as a publicity-seeking hustler - but that cynical, out-of-date view ignores the impressive political network Sharpton has diligently been building from coast to coast. In a dozen or so black communities where elders tend to monopolize leadership of the churches, schools, civic groups, political clubs and other key institutions, Sharpton has been busy grooming young, ambitious candidates for office. By playing the role of mentor, promoter and fund-raiser, Sharpton does what many shortsighted black politicians...

This hilarious account is from the New York Post's Page Six gossip column. The item is titled "Booted From Forbidden Aisle": Reps. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) and Cynthia McKinney (D.-Ga.) got to the floor of the Capitol early and staked out seats reserved for Democratic senators. "Since none of these Democrats over there [in the Senate] filibustered Alito, why can't we have these seats?" Jackson argued. "That makes sense to me," McKinney replied, according to Roll Call columnist Mary Ann Akers. "Jackson went back to his office, leaving McKinney to protect the seats until showtime," the D.C. weekly reports. "Three...

JANUARY 8--Oprah Winfrey's been had. Three months ago, in what the talk show host termed a "radical departure," Winfrey announced that "A Million Little Pieces," author James Frey's nonfiction memoir of his vomit-caked years as an alcoholic, drug addict, and criminal, was her latest selection for the world's most powerful book club. In an October 26 show entitled "The Man Who Kept Oprah Awake At Night," Winfrey hailed Frey's graphic and coarse book as "like nothing you've ever read before. Everybody at Harpo is reading it. When we were staying up late at night reading it, we'd come in the...

Thought for the day, from a gloomy party member on the Democratic Underground Web site: ''Reality sucks. That's the problem. We want another reality.'' Well, they're doing a grand job of creating their alternative universe. At midday Thursday, as George W. Bush was about to be confirmed formally as the winner of the presidential election, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, described by Agence France-Presse as the ''Democratic former presidential hopeful,'' led 400 other Democrats in a protest outside Congress. Presidential-wise, they may be former but they're still hopeful. So they were wearing orange, the color of the election protesters in Ukraine,...

Dear saints of our Lord Praise be to the Lord Jesus Hope you watch on TV news about the big earthquake and the Tsunami. Really I'm unable to describe about it. Horrible scenes I've ever seen. I'm so much tired in mind and body. We're nearby the stricken areas. By God's grace I and my family are OK. But some of our believers are missing and many lost everything. One of our mission fields called "Anchugramam" near Kanyakumari is wiped off. It's a seashore village of around 85 families. People are under terrible fear. Thousands of thousands people leaving their...

We need to not call this Memo-Gate or Forgery-Gate but instead call it Rather-Gate. Dan Rather should be shackled to this thing through the ages. The title of this debacle should be synonymous with CBS/Dan Rather/ and pseudo journalism. Then for many years to come when this is mentioned Rather shall remember his shame. Bloggers unite! Let's change the course of the news yet again and get this thing titled what it should be. Rather and CBS should NEVER forget. Email conservative hosts, post on conservative blogs and get the word out. This is RATHER-GATE RATHER-GATE RATHER-GATE!!!! Scott

Homes of several Atlanta-area residents were unexpectedly mortgaged by a Bedford County man being sought by Georgia authorities, investigators revealed today. David Glenn Helton, 56, falsely claiming power of attorney, obtained mortgages on homes and land under at least 12 different names without the awareness of the property owners, said Detective Sgt. Sam Bragg of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department. Helton is at large and was last known to be in the Knoxville area over the weekend, authorities said. The owners were unaware their properties had been mortgaged until foreclosure notices were received after Helton failed to make payments, said...
