  • The reasons Sarah Palin wouldn’t run for president

It’s the question that has been asked over and over for well more than a year now: Will Sarah Palin run for president? The former Alaska governor has people talking yet again after her PAC on Friday released an Iowa-themed web video teasing her appearance at a tea party rally there on Sept. 3. And former Bush adviser Karl Rove, for one, thinks she’ll do it. For what it’s worth, so too do an increasing number of Palin’s potential opponents in the GOP presidential campaign. But many others remains skeptical.
  • Lessons learned from the Palin debacle-to avoid another disastrous Republican nat'l nomination

This week, Sarah Palin stoked a late, brief flurry of speculation that she might enter the 2012 presidential race. I wont try to predict the former Alaska governor's decision. But I will predict this: If Palin does enter the race, she won't be any kind of factor. Over the past three years, Palin has systematically laid waste to the basis for a presidential campaign. By her own words and actions, she has discredited herself and alienated her one-time supporters. But before Palin vanishes into her hard-earned obscurity, Republicans need an assessment and an accounting. Had John McCain won in 2008,...

Turns out she didn't try the fried butter after all. But there was plenty of waffling to go around when 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin visited the Iowa State Fair on Friday. Upon arrival, Palin immediately headed to the livestock barns and the media cattle call ensued. Were there more cameras than cows? Maybe not (this is the state fair after all), but the scene was surreal. Palin and her husband, Todd, feigned amusement and surprise that the "lamestream" media was making such a spectacle of her return to the Hawkeye State. She merely accepted an invitation to...

Sarah Palin Is a Tease! Even after Michele Bachmann’s win in the Iowa straw poll last weekend, Sarah Palin won’t go away. Is she really serious about running for president? As Meghan McCain sees it, not a chance. It’s the middle of August and we’re in the dog days of a political summer, when the Republican contenders for president are scrambling to figure out how to unseat Obama in 2012. The exaggerated importance placed on last weekend’s Ames straw poll isn’t a surprise. Michele Bachmann probably won’t be our next president, but the intense need for some sort of political...

There is a great line in "Godfather III" where the businessman/mob boss Don Lucchesi says, "Finance is a gun. Politics is knowing when to pull the trigger." In politics, timing is everything. And for Sarah Palin, the hammer is cocked, the round is chambered, and she appears ready to make the decision on whether or not to drop the hammer and launch her campaign: Sarah Palin has left Iowa, her "One Nation" bus tour stopping in Saturday at the birthplace of Ronald Reagan in Dixon, Ill., but looking back on her whirlwind visit to the Iowa State Fair on Friday,...

Earlier today the Perry cheer-leading website ran with a post titled “Palin is not going to run“. That post is based on a response Governor Palin gave to David Brody on when she will make her decision whether she will be running for president. This is what the Governor said:

The latest trend in the media world is “trending.” That is, monitoring what people are buzzing about and directing coverage accordingly. Just as the unspoken sometimes reveals more than the spoken, what’s not trending suggests more than what’s trending. In all the many thousands of words written in the immediate aftermath of the Republican debate in Iowa, two words were scarce: Sarah Palin.

Although most political analysts have written off the possibility that Sarah Palin will run for president in 2012, a group of diehard Palin fans-turned-amateur political activists of Organize4Palin are convinced that the 2008 vice presidential candidate plans to throw her hat in the ring. RealClearPolitics' Scott Conroy reports today that the grassroots volunteer network is still trying to lay the groundwork for a Palin 2012 presidential campaign, particularly in Iowa, home to the first-in-nation caucuses. It is unclear just how many Organize4Palin volunteers are on the ground, but the group reportedly has a presence in the majority of Iowa's 99...

Media: No wonder last week's frenzy over Sarah Palin's old emails went as fast as it came. Not only did it turn out to be the nonstory of the year. It gave objective journalism one of its biggest black eyes yet. We don't remember anything quite like it. The state of Alaska was releasing more than 24,000 — or 300 pounds' worth — of emails that Palin wrote during her years as governor (2006 to 2009). The documents were a matter of public record, we were told, because Palin often used personal emails to cover state business. Whatever the case,...

She hasn't declared her candidacy yet. She showed up in New Hampshire the same day Mitt Romney declared he was running for president and garnered most of the press. And that was before the media got hold of her Paul Revere gaffe. And despite the fact that most Republicans won't vote for her, Palin has managed to top a poll. In what might be considered something more suitable to the strange-but-true section of the news, a poll released Wednesday by Reuters/IPSOS reflects something not seen in the results of any other poll -- Sarah Palin leading all other Republican 2012...

As the media swarms over Sarah Palin’s emails has anyone thought to ask why the personal information of those who wrote emails critical of Palin was not redacted? Some very ugly things are going to come out of these emails and not against Sarah Palin. Frankly I’m very disturbed by her legal team’s choices in what I’m reading. Sarah Palin and her legal team spent two and half years combing these emails for pages they wanted to withhold and for redactions to protect the privacy of some people. But you want to know whose information they left in? Any person...

Politico knew they likely wouldn’t get a quote from Sarah Palin for the latest hit piece they published so they made one up. One of the authors is the former chairman of the Democratic Party of Virgina.Politico wrote: Will Sarah Palin’s intensifying rivalry with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) cause the former Alaska governor to run for president? The first female Republican vice presidential nominee clearly believes she is the one who has paid the heavy dues by bearing the brunt of the “liberal elite” attacks to help build the tea party, social conservative wing of the GOP.Palin’s bus tour had some...

Will Sarah Palin’s intensifying rivalry with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) cause the former Alaska governor to run for president? The first female Republican vice presidential nominee clearly believes she is the one who has paid the heavy dues by bearing the brunt of the “liberal elite” attacks to help build the tea party, social conservative wing of the GOP. Palin’s bus tour had some of the hallmarks of a primal scream: “I built this constituency, not Bachmann, not anyone else,” she said. Looking at it through her eyes, she has a point. But in 1932, former New York Gov. Al...

For any other candidate, raining on a presidential announcement parade would be seen as sabotage. Not former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. The 2012 presidential candidate told CNN’s Piers Morgan Monday that he wasn’t offended when former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin appeared in the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire on the same day he was set to formally announce his intention to seek the 2012 GOP nomination for president. In fact, though Romney shared his plans one week in advance and Palin insisted on keeping the destination of her top-secret bus tour under wraps until the day before her New...

Everyone has already had a grand old time mocking this video of Sarah Palin bungling her Paul Revere history, but I actually think it amounts to quite an eloquent statement. It’s as eloquent an argument as anyone could make that this woman really should not be treated by any of us as anything resembling a presidential candidate until it’s absolutely necessary — which is to say, until she actually runs for president.

Coming off her week-long One Nation bus tour that was widely seen as a test-run for a presidential campaign, Sarah Palin says she’s starting to see that running for president might not be the best fit for her. “Not only do I love my freedom of not having a title and being a declared candidate — that is liberating — I know you can make a difference as an individual,” she said. “Hopefully, I can inspire others to know that you don’t need a title. You don’t need to be in office to effect positive change.”

MANCHESTER, N.H. - As it played out on TV this week, Sarah Palin’s “One Nation” road trip of U.S. historical sites was a masterpiece of political mischief-making – a wild dash up the East Coast that delighted her fans and cornered the market on 2012 coverage for days on end. That’s not how the bus tour looked to Republicans on the ground, many of whom are more convinced than ever that the former Alaska governor is simply not serious about running for president. While Palin has reveled in giving an extended one-fingered salute to the national press, refusing to give...
