FDL/SurveyUSA, 1/16-1/18, 600 likely voters, margin of sampling error ± 4.1% If there were an election for US House of Representatives today, and the only two candidates on the ballot were Democrat Baron Hill and Republican Mike Sodrel, who would you vote for? 41% Baron Hill (D) 49% Mike Sodrel (R) 10% Undecided 2010 will be the fifth straight time Democratic Congressman Baron Hill has gone head-to-head with Republican former Congressman Mike Sodrel for the opportunity of representing Indiana’s 9th congressional district. I was shocked to find that the NRA has endorsed Baron Hill for IN-9. This is insane, with a good Republican (Sodrel) who could have been endorsed in a very close election. Granted, Hill has only a 36% rating from the Brady Campaign, but our solid Republican representatives all are down in the single digits (with Pence leading the way with a 0% rating -- way to go Mike!). GOA gave Hill a D- in their 2007 rating, but apparently the NRA thought he was good for an A in 2008. I've always been in the "NRA is one of...

Former Rep. Mike Sodrel announced Tuesday that he will run for Indiana’s 9th District Congressional House seat in 2008. It will be his fourth election running against current 9th District Rep. Baron Hill. Sodrel, a Republican, ran against Hill, a Democrat, in 2002, 2004 and 2006. Hill defeated Sodrel in 2002, though Sodrel won the seat in 2004. Hill was reelected in the last election, winning by a margin of less than 5 percent, according to a press release from Dr. Eric Schansberg, the third 9th district congressional seat candidate. “A lot of voters voted for change in 2006,” Sodrel...

WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 — For all the talk about the political baggage that President Bush carries this year, his stop in Indiana on Saturday showed that he could still turn on — and, White House strategists say, turn out — the most faithful party voters. Women screamed his name, men chanted “U.S.A.,” and no one doubted that the 4,000 people packed into a high school gymnasium for a rally in Sellersburg were primed to urge friends and neighbors to vote on Nov. 7 for Representative Mike Sodrel, who won his seat by just 1,300 votes two years ago. The scene...

Allegations of voter fraud in Monroe County will be a key point in the recount of Republican Mike Sodrel’s apparent victory over Rep. Baron Hill of Seymour in the Ninth Congressional District. Sodrel’s campaign responded to the request of Democrats for a recount in the district by claiming a “substantial number” of ineligible voters may have cast ballots in Monroe County, which Hill won by some 7,000 votes. State officials were to begin a prerecount inspection of the impounded county election materials today in Bloomington.

The Indiana Democratic Party requested a recount in the 9th District U.S. House race lost by Rep. Baron Hill amid questions over whether optical-scan voting systems used by some counties recorded straight-party votes erroneously. The Indiana Recount Commission called an emergency meeting Friday afternoon to impound election materials in both that race and in the Indiana House District 9 race won by incumbent Rep. Scott Pelath, D-Michigan City. Hill, who lost to Republican challenger Mike Sodrel by 1,485 votes in the southern Indiana congressional district, filed for the recount after a recount Thursday in Franklin County showed about 600 straight-Democratic...

Baron Hill was narrowly defeated in his bid for a fourth term in Indiana's 9th district by Republican challenger Mike Sodrel, who Hill had defeated two years earlier in a close race. This time, Sodrel, who lost by some 10,000 votes in his maiden run for office in 2002, was a little smarter, a...

Did anyone here attend the debate last week between Baron Hill (democratic incumbent from IN's 9th congressional district) and Mike Sodrel (republican challenger)... I have heard that after the debate, Hill sucker punched Sodrel in the kidney (sent him to the floor) when Sodrel went to shake his hand... I am looking for someone who was there to confirm or deny the story
