There are two, regular participants on Fox News who are so predictable and strident in public lying to push their political issues that the instant they appear I now hit the channel change button. I won’t name them. I’m sure all readers have their own list of talking heads on TV who are so dishonest, so obnoxious, you have the same reaction to them – turn them off immediately. Last weekend saw “Spamalot!” on Broadway. Thinking about it afterward, I realized that lyrics from one of the greatest musicals ever, explained what is happening among the talking heads recruited from...

I'll start off by stating that I've always been a huge Hannity supporter. His program election afternoon/eve was one of the most inspiring, one of the most effective broadcasts ever, IMHO, possibly helping Bush win Ohio by a relatively small margin. This was possibly his best program ever. This past week was one of his worst ever. I don't mean to downplay the damage caused by Rita, but it was far less destructive than had been predicted. My beef with Hannity was that he tried to sensationalize every aspect of the possible disaster, both on his radio and TV shows....

NOVEMBER 30--A New York woman who briefly worked as a nanny for Don Imus has sued the radio host for wrongful termination, claiming she was canned for bringing a harmless cap gun and pocketknife with her during a trip last Thanksgiving to the family's sprawling New Mexico ranch. Nichole Mallette, 24, also claimed in her New York State Supreme Court lawsuit, a copy of which you'll find below, that she was defamed when Imus later announced on his program that he had been forced to "disarm" his nanny, whom he labeled as dangerous and a "terrorist." In her complaint, filed...

And in 1980, when Americans seemed to have made up their minds about not voting for President Jimmy Carter, they needed to be assured that his opponent, Republican Ronald Reagan was more than a dangerous ideologue or a Grade B actor. Reagan delivered one of the great knockout blows in presidential debate history: “Are you better off than you were fours ago?”

Road to Nowhere(Parody of Talking Heads "Road to Nowhere") by Kevin L. Kitchens The campaign's all but over, but you don't know what went wrong. Your candidate is a loser, why'd you'd keep him for so long? Cause you're blind to the real truth, don't confuse you with the facts. Liberalism is dying, and it won't get back on track. Yeah! You're on the road to nowhere, Kerry's your guide. You'll take the ride to nowhere, Teddy can drive. Hillary's mad this morning, and so what's new? You had a goal to socialize, and you failed, and you failed. You're...

It almost happened last week. Thursday brought an email from a producer for the cable network CNBC. "Hi Mike, would you be available for a tv interview tonight with John Seigenthaler on CNBC? We're putting together a segment on this whole selective indignation/outrage in Iraq. This segment would be taped at 7:15pm. Looking forward to hearing from you." Finally, a chance to indoctrina. . . I mean, address a large, nationwide audience. And on the same network that Maria "the Money Honey" Bartiromo appears on. Who could ask for more? It could have been great, and perhaps marked a turning...

Is there anyone watching the Factor (Bill O’Reilly) tonight? I have been and I am pissed that he first discounted W’s involvement in “reserves” as not counting as military duty. Then Bill O’Reilly pushed a point that ended with him saying “the Pentagon is either lying or they don’t know”. I recently retired from the “pentagon” and I want to assure you that mostly we knew and we never lied. I am very disappointed the O’Reilly pissed on reservist and pentagoners. I think that O’Reilly is so determined to be seen as a neuter, that he has in fact neutered...

By Howard Kurtz. Published by Random House 1995. Copyright (c) 1995 Howard Kurtz. All rights reserved. CHAPTER NINE: "TALKING FOR DOLLARS" James Kilpatrick has described the practice of lawmakers ac cepting lucrative speaking fees as nothing less than a "scandal." "Members of the House and Senate ... accept invitations to speak to a trade association or other special-interest group, the conservative columnist writes. "The member, often accompanied by his wife, goes to such agreeable spots as Boca Raton or Honolulu, makes a little talk, and picks up a check for $2,000 plus travel expenses ... The practice smells to...

It was the first Tuesday in November, and the nation was glued to its television screens. All across the land, eager viewers watched, hoping to catch part of a gloating victory speech or maybe a quick cutaway to a loser's disappointed face. It was the day the country had long been awaiting, and no one could yet tell who would emerge victorious. It was ("drum roll please") the awarding of the Giller Prize for fiction! Yes, that was the big news here in Canada Tuesday night. In its typical self-absorbed fashion, Canada was paying more attention to an obscure Canuck...

If you're among those obsessed few who spend Sunday mornings watching the political chat shows, you've surely noticed that "Meet the Press" and "This Week" and others sometimes have the same high-ranking Bush administration official saying the exact same thing.

Provocative Punditry Loved Or Hated, Andrew Sullivan Has Become A Phenomenon For Saying What He Thinks April 18, 2002 By KEVIN CANFIELD, Courant Staff Writer WASHINGTON - Here is Andrew Sullivan, a British-born pundit who, since 9/11, has been the nation's most nimble-minded critic of the war on terrorism. In the eyes of opinion-makers as astute as Ron Rosenbaum of the New York Observer, he is a modern-day George Orwell. And here is Andrew Sullivan, an HIV-positive gay man who uses the high-rent acreage of The New Republic, the New York Times Magazine and, most efficiently, his website to lay...

Network News Anchors: Dynamos Or Dying Breed? March 19, 2002 By KEVIN CANFIELD, Courant Staff Writer These are boom times for TV news. About 30 million people tune in to one of the networks' flagship 6:30 broadcasts each night, almost four million more than were watching before Sept. 11. Yet every big-time pundit in the land is lining up to eulogize the big three newscasts. "I think this moment is the last glorious hurrah for the traditional network news anchors," Kurt Andersen, co-founder of the defunct online media magazine Inside.com, said in an interview late last year with iwantmedia.com, "because...

WASHINGTON - The military wants to develop nuclear bombs that could destroy - not just disturb - deeply buried and fortified underground targets, according to excerpts from a classified Pentagon report. The report, called the Nuclear Posture Review and completed in January, said more than 10,000 underground military facilities exist in more than 70 countries. About 1,400 of the underground facilities are considered specially important because they house weapons of mass destruction, ballistic missiles or top-level military command stations, the report said. "At present the United States lacks adequate means to deal with these strategic facilities," it said. The U.S....
