When it comes to Donald Trump's thinking about his running mate, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions says he has not advocated for the presumptive Republican nominee to have a military general on the ticket. Retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn has been reportedly vetted for vice president, and "Fox News Sunday" fill-in host Shannon Bream alluded to a Washington Post story Saturday that reported the Alabama Republican is "encouraging Trump to perhaps choose a general." "I have not pushed him to have a general," said Sessions, who himself is seen as a top contender for the position, adding, "I have said...

Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who is reportedly being vetted by Donald Trump as potential running mate, was fired as head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in the winter of 2014 after three decades in the military. Here he tells the real story of his departure from his post and why America is not getting any closer to winning the war on terror. Two years ago, I was called into a meeting with the undersecretary of defense for intelligence and the director of national intelligence, and after some “niceties,” I was told by the USDI that I was being...

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tells Breitbart News that he would consider being Republican candidate Donald Trump’s running mate in November’s general election. Asked if Trump has asked him to be running mate, Gingrich said, “No.” Asked if he would consider being running mate, Gingrich said, “Yes.” But, “I think he has to make that decision.” “It is the most extraordinary campaign of its time,” the former speaker added. “He’s come out of nowhere and defeated 16 other candidates.” “If he catches fire he could be much like Reagan in 1980,” Gingrich said, noting that Trump could match those record...

TRENTON — It is highly unlikely that Gov. Chris Christie will be Donald Trump's running mate, according to two sources who are advising the Trump campaign and who requested to remain anonymous. Instead, the sources said that former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich is "the likely pick" to be the tycoon's choice for vice president. The sources, who have been privy to some of the selection process, have insisted on anonymity because they are not authorized to speak for the campaign. "The people who've been pushing the Christie narrative are Christie people," said one of the sources, who has heard...

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Rumors continue to swirl around Indiana Governor Mike Pence. Speculation continues on whether Donald Trump will pick Pence as a running mate. One of Trump’s former top aides is weighing in on a possible Pence selection, as is a fellow Midwestern governor. Pence only has ten days to make the decision to continue in the race for governor, or join Donald Trump as the vice presidential candidate. The governor spent the Fourth of July walking parades in Greene and Hamilton counties. This is after spending with weekend in New Jersey meeting with Trump. He said the two...

It goes without saying that Senator Jeff Sessions is popular with a huge number of Americans. It is also true that Joni Ernst, a war veteran, is a rising star in Republican ranks. Either would make wonderful Vice Presidents for different reasons. However, the trade-off is unacceptable. In the case of Ernst, she is sitting as senator in Iowa, at best a purple state. There is absolutely no guarantee that her seat would be won by a Republican. Why is that so crucial? The Republican majority in the Senate is only 4 senators. And this year the Republicans have 24...

Word on the street is that former Georgia congressman and House Speaker Newt Gingrich will be joining presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump at an Ohio rally tomorrow, making an appearance that could very well serve as an audition to be the billionaire’s running mate. Several reporters tweeted the news on Tuesday afternoon that Gingrich will be a special guest at Trump’s Cincinnati rally on Wednesday evening. We’ve known for a while that Gingrich is a top contender for Trump’s VP, but the two have not appeared together since that news broke. Tim Alberta over at the conservative National Review reports...

Scott Brown may get a nice job in a Donald Trump administration — but not vice president. That’s my takeaway from spending some time with Trump last week. I believe the top two contenders for veep are U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, because those are the two names Trump mentioned to me on the flight from Boston to Bangor, Maine... So I mentioned Sessions. “He’s a great guy,” Trump said. “But I’m going to win Alabama by 20 anyway.” So then I said Scott Brown, who had been at the fundraiser at the Langham...

Gov. Chris Christie may be on the short list for Donald Trump's pick for vice president, but to readers of the Drudge Report would soon have the billionaire mogul pick someone else. In a flash poll posted on the news website on Tuesday, the governor received just under 6 percent of more than 200,000 votes, while former U.S. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich received almost 40 percent. Also a popular choice among readers of the conservative news aggregator is freshman U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa (31 percent), who traveled to New Jersey to meet with the tycoon at...

WASHINGTON — A top military adviser to Donald Trump is being vetted to be his running mate, The Post has learned. The outspoken and brash Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn — who was forced out of his post by the Obama administration in 2014 after pointing out the rising global jihadist threat — has already briefed the Republican presidential candidate on several occasions and is in close touch with high levels of Trump’s staff... As Donald Trump widened his pool of potential running mates this weekend, two candidates -- Mike Pence and Newt Gingrich - have seen their stock rise inside Trump Tower with less than two weeks until the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. "Pence and Gingrich are the two that most fulfill Trump's acknowledgement that he wants to find a governing partner, someone who can pass legislation," an individual familiar with conversations about the vice presidential search told NBC News. I would have to consider it, but I love what I do in the United...

Which begs the question: Who is he going to pick as his vice presidential nominee? The short answer: No one knows. Trump relishes being unpredictable so trying to game out how this most unconventional of politicians will make his mind up is a bit of a guessing game. Add to that the fact that Trump's inner circle remains, largely, devoid of establishment types and you quickly get into a situation where the people talking don't know much and the people who do know aren't talking.
