Even the customary Oscar gift bags given to top nominees before Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony indicated that this year's celebration would be anything but show business as usual. --snip-- "Harvey" was personally thanked or praised by award winners such as Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Renee Zellweger in at least 34 Oscar speeches from 1993 to 2016, and no last name was required. According to one analysis of nearly 1,400 Oscar speeches, the man behind films such as "Pulp Fiction" and "The King's Speech" was thanked more often than God. He'd sit up front, the camera seemingly always on him,...

A robe-swaddled Harvey Weinstein statue, sitting arms spread on a golden chaise lounge urging pedestrians to sit beside him, appeared in Hollywood on Thursday days before the 90th Academy Awards ceremony. The sculpture, located on Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue, is a collaboration between street artists Plastic Jesus, best known for his annual Oscar season installations that take aim at the dark side of show business, and Joshua "Ginger" Monroe, the artist behind the infamous naked Donald Trump statues. The piece was intentionally crafted to allow passers-by to sit beside Weinstein and take photos with him. Clenched in Weinstein's...

Everybody does Throwback Thursday because it’s fun to remember, for better or worse, the way we were: the fashion, food, politics and culture of by-gone eras. Until last year I thought of it less as nostalgia and more as a history of a dying culture. Now I can view it as a chronicle of America in the process of making itself great again. See what you think. H/T EVRI’m so old that some of these old things are new again, like TV rabbit ears, fallout shelters/drills (thank you Obama - and what happened to that Trump/Putin collusion?), vinyl and turntables....

A longtime Hollywood exec who served as Rose McGowan's manager when the actress was allegedly raped by Harvey Weinstein committed suicide Wednesday amid a slew of media attention her family says made her collateral damage in the pair’s war of words. Jill Messick's family said in a statement obtained by the Daily News she had battled depression for many years, but had recently been "victimized" by allegations put forth by McGowan and the subsequent response from Weinstein. The former Miramax production executive was McGowan's manager in January 1997, when the actress has claimed she was raped by Weinstein in a...

The LAPD has submitted three sexual abuse cases against Harvey Weinstein to the L.A. County District Attorney’s office for possible charges, a spokesman said Thursday. No details of the allegations were released. The LAPD has previously acknowledged that it was investigating a claim that Weinstein raped an Italian model at a hotel in 2013. The LAPD also said it was investigating an allegation that Weinstein committed “lewd acts” in 2015. The LAPD submitted the three cases on Feb. 1. The D.A.’s office can choose to file a case or decline to prosecute, but it may also request additional investigation or...

Yes, Uma Thurman is mad. She has been raped. She has been sexually assaulted. She has been mangled in hot steel. She has been betrayed and gaslighted by those she trusted. And we’re not talking about her role as the blood-spattered bride in “Kill Bill.” We’re talking about a world that is just as cutthroat, amoral, vindictive and misogynistic as any Quentin Tarantino hellscape. We’re talking about Hollywood, where even an avenging angel has a hard time getting respect, much less bloody satisfaction. Playing foxy Mia Wallace in 1994’s “Pulp Fiction” and ferocious Beatrix Kiddo in “Kill Bill,” Volumes 1...

The only thing richer than the Democratic Party’s history of sexual perversion is their astounding willingness to lecture others on the subject. On Friday, we learned of sexual assault allegations against casino magnate and RNC Finance Chairman Steve Wynn. The shocking accounts of his harassment, manipulation and worse paint the picture of the worst kind of cad — or a medium degenerate-level Democratic senator. Hours after the story first appeared in The Wall Street Journal, giddy Democrats were pounding the table and their shih tzu media was yapping about how the Republican National Committee needed to return all of Wynn’s...

In the final frantic days before the New Yorker and New York Times exposed his sexual misconduct, Harvey Weinstein allegedly spent his time searching for and deleting sensitive documents, scouring ex-employees’ online communications and hunting for the person who leaked incriminating information to the press. ...Weinstein was determined to find out who was providing reporters with a road map to his personal life, angrily confiding in her [Nicole Quenqua], she said, even as he fished for information: “Somebody is giving The New York Times everything. They’re giving them my drivers’ phone numbers. My entire address book. . . . They’re...

The talk show queen's widely-applauded speech on Sunday night focused on the plight of sexually abused women and the 'MeToo' movement. Do you remember when Donald Trump’s “inexperience” terrified Democrats? That was before it looked as if Oprah might run for president. On Sunday at the Golden Globes, Oprah Winfrey gave a speech condemning sexual harassers and repeatedly warning abusers that “their time is up.” Oprah’s oratory had the left and the mainstream media — but I repeat myself — giddy with the possibility of a Democratic presidential bid. From its official Twitter account, NBC wrote, “Nothing but respect for OUR future president,” accompanied by a picture of Oprah. It has since taken the tweet down. CNN started an Oprah 2020...

A collective of 100 prominent French women, including famed actress Catherine Deneuve, have denounced the “puritanism” that followed in the wake of allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, declaring that men should be “free to hit on” women. The letter in Le Monde, signed by around 100 French women writers, performers and academics, deplored the wave of “denunciations” that has followed claims that producer Weinstein raped and sexually assaulted women over decades. They claimed that the “witch-hunt” that has followed threatens sexual freedom. “Rape is a crime, but insistent or clumsy flirting is not, nor is gallantry a macho aggression,”...

The media world is going gaga over the thought of a potential 2020 presidential bid from Oprah Winfrey. After Winfrey delivered a stirring speech Sunday evening at the Golden Globes, Monday’s headlines were all about the talk show icon. The speculation is a welcome distraction for Hollywood’s elite, who have faced an ongoing industry crisis after the fallout from a wave of sexual assault bombshells. However, if Oprah runs she will likely face her own questions over enabling and palling around with some of Hollywood’s now infamous sexual predators. In particular, Oprah has maintained a close professional relationship with Harvey...

Rose McGowan and Asia Argento accused Harvey Weinstein of rape, which acted as a catalyst for the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements — but they, like Marchesa gowns, were conspicuously absent from the 2018 Golden Globes. The women, along with several of Weinstein’s other accusers, claim that they weren’t invited to the event.

Rose McGowan, who openly criticized the call for a red carpet black-out in the weeks leading up to the awards show, took to Twitter Sunday to reiterate her stance after Italian actress Asia Argento voiced her support for McGowan. "No one should forget that you were the first one who broke the silence," Argento tweeted at the former Charmed actress. "Anyone who tries to diminish your work is a troll and an enemy of the movement. You gave me the courage to speak out. I am on your side until I die." McGowan doubled down on her disdain for the...

Several central figures in Hollywood's fight against sexual harassment weren't involved in Sunday's Golden Globes protest — for varying reasons. Italian actress Asia Argento, who was one of Harvey Weinstein's earliest accusers, says she wasn't invited to partake in the anti-harassment demonstration --SNIP-- McGowan then responded by taking a shot at the all-black dress code at the Golden Globes. "And not one of those fancy people wearing black to honor our rapes would have lifted a finger had it not been so. I have no time for Hollywood fakery,

An aspiring actress says Harvey Weinstein used Oprah Winfrey and Naomi Campbell to dupe her into thinking he would help her with her career — only to use her for sex. British actress Kadian Noble said Tuesday she was head-over-heels impressed when she first met Weinstein at an event in London because he was hanging out with model Campbell and had megastar Oprah “swinging off his arm.” “I thought, obviously, this man has something amazing in store for me,” she said during a teary-eyed press conference in Manhattan to discuss the sex trafficking lawsuit she filed a day earlier against...
