Zookeepers in Japan have abandoned a years-long attempt to have two spotted hyenas mate and reproduce as both turned out to be male. The Maruyama zoo in Sapporo, northern Japan, said in a statement this week that it was given the animals as a “male and female couple” in October 2010 from a zoo in the South Korean city of Daejon. “We have attempted to house them together for breeding many times but they often fought against each other and never engaged themselves in breeding behaviour,” the statement said.[SNIP]

Well, that didn’t take long. Adding Ebola to his list of evil white plots against blacks, including AIDS, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan has claimed it was an invention to kill blacks.Warner Todd Huston writes at Breitbart: In a new missive, Farrakhan wrote that Henry Kissinger created a plan in 1974 to kill black people and now Ebola and AIDS are weapons being used to fulfill that policy. Farrakhan told followers that Kissinger said in 1974: "Depopulation should be the highest priority of foreign policy towards the Third World." Farrakhan went on to claim that "bio-weapons such as Ebola and AIDS"...

OAKDALE — The lurching gait, an unfocused glare out of black-rimmed eyes, growls from behind bared teeth – the zombie advanced, the undead unleashed among the living. Laser rifles crackled to life. Cellphones whipped into view. Her prey drew back against the rail-car walls. Grins and shrieks followed the creature’s every move until the train doctor intervened, snapping on a neck harness and leading her away from the crowd. This was the thrill riders came for, had driven hours for, shelled out $35 to $50 for, on the early Oakdale Zombie Train on Saturday. “I was looking for a dinner...

A professor is blaming climate change and overpopulation for the creation of the terrorist group ISIS. Charles Strozier, Professor of History and the founding Director of the John Jay College Center on Terrorism and Kelly Berkell, research assistant at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, wrote a blog piece in the Huffington Post called “ How Climate Change Helped ISIS,” where they argue that a four-year drought in Syria, from 2006 through 2010, “devastated the livelihoods of 800,000 farmers and herders; and knocked two to three million people into extreme poverty.” "If more Americans knew how glacial melt contributes...

Larry Harcar was swaggering down his street last week in full "Pirates of the Caribbean" regalia: Bearded, in black and with a toy gun and sword. It's what he likes doing this time of year — for entertainment, he told authorities. The fun ended when Harcar, 49, found himself face down on the ground with two loaded pistols pointed at his head. The guns were in the hands of two startled neighbors from three doors away, the Broward Sheriff's Office said, who were fearful of the "pirate's" appearance. The costume drama began Wednesday afternoon, when Harcar was spotted by Ahmed...

Inspired perhaps by Harry Potter's invisibility cloak, scientists have recently developed several ways—some simple and some involving new technologies—to hide objects from view. The latest effort, developed at the University of Rochester, not only overcomes some of the limitations of previous devices, but it uses inexpensive, readily available materials in a novel configuration. "There've been many high tech approaches to cloaking and the basic idea behind these is to take light and have it pass around something as if it isn't there, often using high-tech or exotic materials," said John Howell, a professor of physics at the University of Rochester....

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Police are investigating a mysterious death at a market in Santa Ana. A woman was acting violently Wednesday at El Toro Carniceria-Meat Shop at 1340 West 1st Street when a security guard placed her in handcuffs, according to investigators. A witness said she was behaving erratically and began removing her clothes. “She was jumping like crazy. And then she made a mess inside the liquor store. And that’s why the security guard had to do what he had to do, and grab her and handcuff her,” Joseph Castellan said. Moments later, she died. Detectives have not...

Friend: Andy Kaufman is still alive Could faking his own death be Andy Kaufman's biggest joke yet? In 1980, legendary comedian Andy Kaufman and his writing partner, Bob Zmuda, wrote a script for a film called “The Tony Clifton Story,” based on a character of Kaufman’s. On Page 124, there is a block of dialogue intended for Kaufman to speak as himself, informing viewers of Clifton’s demise. Among the lines: “On June 12, 1980 . . . Tony Clifton, at the age of 45, died of cancer at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Hollywood, California.” Four years later, at age 35, Kaufman himself would,...

Swedish Radio Science News asked about a dozen researchers, and many say the 200-550 kg animals are simply too large to get drunk on the amount of fermented apples they are reported to eat. Professor Petter Kjellander, expert on wild animals at the agricultural university SLU, says that neither he nor the colleagues he asked has ever come across a test confirming high blood alcohol in an elk. Despite thousands of people all over the world reading about the aggressive "drunk" Swedish elks Petter Kjellander speculates the animals might simply be protecting their stashes of tasty fallen fruit. One elk...
