Homeowner Locked Out Of House Pleads with His Feline Companions To Let Him In
The Pet Zealot ^ | December 01, 2023 | James Alain L.

Cats have always been known for their mysterious and independent nature. They can be a source of unconditional love and comfort for their humans, but they also possess a streak of cunning and aloofness. In a recent incident, a homeowner found himself locked out of his house, with the keys safely inside. Little did he know, his feline companions held the power to either let him in or leave him stranded outside.

Still is. Very nice house now, but I preferred that one.

I’ve lived in a couple of places that I liked living in, but I’m actually pretty unattached to stuff, at least for most stuff that I’m ever challenged on.

When we were temporarily living in NYC and I was travelling back home every weekend I offered my family to declutter the house by taking a list from them of everything they wanted to keep. I said I’d get rid of everything else but not tell them what I got rid of so they’d never miss it. I even promised to make my own list and abide by it.

I got no takers. “We have to look at everything to know if we want it!” “If you can’t remember you have it, you can do without it.”

I guess that was just me.

Way back when I was in High School, I told my fellow students not to worry, we'd get back every penny we put into Social Security.

A hamburger at McDonald's might cost $3,000...

..but we'd get back every penny!

A meal at Mickey D's is only $25 now, so I missed, so far.

I like to tell people I can remember when McDonalds used to advertise you could get a hamburger, coke, and fries and get change back from your dollar.

They never showed us how much change.

It still gets wide eyes.

Today was nice... Sunny at least. Not sure where all this WIND keeps coming from though... It’s like living in North Dakota suddenly.

I’m back. I’ve been back about an hour but I had to eat. Hypoglycemia does that!

What a beautiful coat on that kitty!

Good morning. How did your conference turn out yesterday? Did a lot of people attend?

The temple trip was productive, and I’m really glad I went, though there were several big weddings so ALL the parking lots were full, and we had to park on the street about a block away.

Carissa had to hurry and get back to pick up her little ones from school, but that was fine. I was getting tired by then, anyway. We got home just about noon, so it was a good morning. Travel time was about an hour, and the session was about 90 minutes, so it was good.

Maybe next time, we can do it on another day of the week and stop to get something to eat on the way home. I don’t know how she isn’t frazzled, as she is always taking her kids places.

I’ve gotten rid of a fair amount of stuff over the years... figure that if it is forgotten in a box for many years, I probably don’t need it...

Taking kids places is fine as long as you have audiobooks!

The conference was nice. Attendance was a lot lower than at the one I went to several years ago. Was it ten years? Not sure! Anyway, I felt worse about things at the end than I did at the beginning, because there are so many things that could be done to better serve the parishioners and even to evangelize outside the congregation, but we’re not allowed to do any of them.

If anyone asked me what steps I planned on taking based on what I learned, I’d say, “Pray, cry, drink.” If we ever get new clergy who want to have a healthy organization, they’ll have to start over from scratch.

Sally and Dallas are over to help DP with some yardwork, and I dragged James, Vlad, and Frank out of bed with the promise of doughnuts and the threat that I would sing.

I’m getting my hair cut this afternoon, but Patrick still needs an appointment later in the week. He went to Karen the last time, and it looked good when it was cut, but now it looks like there’s a shih-tzu on his head.

Carissa has two in high school, one in middle school and two in elementary school, but she is such an attentive mom that she doesn’t have to raise her voice to get them to behave, even as she is driving. I’ve seen her in action!

It seems to me, if the church’s numbers are falling world-wide, parishioners should be encouraged to evangelize with neighbors, if no one else. I’m sorry it was disappointing for you. But I like your steps — “Pray, cry, drink!”

I’m sure the doughnut-bribe worked. Or maybe it was the actual threat of you singing. Kind of makes me wonder how many of your kids have voices as beautiful as yours.

I need to get my hair cut, too. It’s really beginning to look scraggly and shop-worn. But Great Clips is up to $20 + tip for Seniors, and that’s a big bite. So Patrick could be invisible except for the shih-tzu on his head. Dead giveaway as to where he is in the maze at the Botaniical Gardens.

I need to get dressed. I slept eleven hours last night, because I still don’t think I’m over this kidney infection.

I’ll be bock.

I think many clergy in this part of the country think they can coast, because congregations are growing due to immigration from Up North and Latin America.

I was just emailing with Pat, the incoming Parish Council chair and a good friend. She’s having a leadership event on the 27th (I can’t go because of State Envirothon), and I was asking her for more information so I can encourage representatives of the Hispanic Volunteers to attend.

She said they’d invited the (Irish)American deacon but not the (Colombian)American deacon. “Maybe we should invite him.” LIKE, DUH!!! What are you telling 1/3 of the parish if you don’t? “We don’t want to deal with an immigrant with an accent”? Or worse.

I didn’t say everything I thought, just that yes, I thought it would be best to invite him. GAAAAAAH.

Yes, but that “growth due to immigration” is a false growth, much like “the lay-offs in 2020 and then re-hiring in 2023 indicates a stronger economy.” What would be smart is for the Diocese to provide a small Hispanic parish for the immigrants, and judge the “growth” as a separate entity. But that’s too logical and therefore, will never work.

However, it’s what WE do. We don’t have an Hispanic Ward here, but almost everywhere I’ve ever attended in the last 20 years has at least one. St George might, because of the college and the influx of new residents, but though they start out small, they grow quickly and usually have to be split several times.

I hope your friend Pat does invite the Colombian-American deacon! What a coup that would be!

I’m going to swap out my summer clothes today, because, even though it will be 81° today and 69° tomorrow, it’s time to put away the heavy stuff. I’ve already started on the undies, but that’s just because I had to find something besides thermals to wear. Thermals are too warm, but the non-thermals are too cool, so I’ll keep one warm shirt out. It’s kinda like being between haircuts. Or nail jobs.
