A tour of parts of the ancient Roman City of Herculaneum
YouTube ^ | 01-21-2018 | ProWalks

A video tour of the ancient city of Herculaneum buried by the volcanic eruption of AD 79. It is remarkably well preserved despite some nasty looting when first discovered in the 18th century. Currently it is believed that only about a quarter of the city has been excavated. Most of the rest lies still buried. Complicating excavations is that a modern city has been built on top of the old.

Thank you for this.

I have always had a huge fascination with Ancient Rome, much like General Patten.

Patten himself believed he was reincarnated from a Roman who had fought at tr battle of Carthage. I like to think similar

Ive been there and Pompeii, for most people I highly recommend Herculaneum (Ercolono), especially on a hot day.

Phenomenal. Much better format than a traditional documentary.

Wonderful! I’ve been there twice, years ago in the 60s and the 80s, when comparatively little excavation and restoration was completed or accessible to the public. It’s amazing how much progress they have made!

Having visited Pompeii, I highly recommend you visit. Very “modern” designs in the city as far as running water, etc. Cheers!

And the "porno" drawings on the wall. Didn't expect to see that on the tour.

At least in Herculaneum it was pretty much instantaneous.

Through the travail of the ages
Midst the pomp and toil of war
Have I fought and strove and perished
Countless times upon this star...

So as through a glass and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names - but always me.

Carthage scene (some of the original poem lines altered)

The first time I saw the movie was on TV, family tuned in late, and that was the first scene to make an impact on me, probably the first one I saw. Considering that Hollywood doesn't make documentaries, and always pushes that shallow (and fake) anti-war boilerplate, it is not bad, not bad at all.
