You might think they are disgusting. But our war against intestinal worms has damaged our immune systems and mental health.
Did you ever wonder why one in six children has a mental health disorder? One in every six seems to be a few too many, I would think. Did you ever wonder why 20 per cent of women, in the United States at least, have been diagnosed with depression after menopause, and why chronic fatigue syndrome has mysteriously emerged? Why should almost half of us be allergic to something? Why should more than four in every 10 children be on medication for a chronic condition? Why do more than one in 10 women have an autoimmune condition? When asking why we get sick, we take the first step in understanding the origins of disease. If we find the answer to that question, we become empowered to prevent disease. ...
.... What if our bias against a handful of helminths led us to slaughter billions of innocent and even helpful worms? Indeed, my research and the research of many others tell us that helminths are necessary for our health. A barrage of scientific evidence points toward helminths as being important regulators of immune function. Because of this, our genocidal campaign against intestinal worms apparently has a very nasty backlash that nobody saw coming. But science moves very slowly. All helminths are still labelled as parasites in textbooks, despite the fact that we now know this to be incorrect.

Plenty inside the Beltway.
Are they suggesting a 2nd Diet of Worms?
“The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out,
The worms play pinochle on your snout.”
Yep, better than adding a Tablespoon a day to food, haaa!
Who’s “we?” I’m just fine without ‘em.
We have become too ultra-sterilized, forgetting we are part of the natural world, dirt, bugs and all-we already know how gut bugs are necessary for health-hence people take acidophilus after using antibiotics to put them back-and I’m one of the many who take probiotics along with other supplements and vitamins each day. There may be some health benefit to certain worms, as well...
I grew up n a ranch eating only fresh natural non-processed food, working with livestock, going barefoot all the time, playing in dirt, cleaning out chicken coops, etc-for a kid to have a cold at every weather change, or a deadly allergy to peanuts or some such thing was unheard of. I never had the flu until I was going to college in the city and caught the Hong Kong A-I was sick for about 10 days, but 3 of my classmates died...
I raised my cub as far from the city as we could afford-she ate only fresh natural food, went barefoot most of the time, played in dirt, had her pets indoors and cleaned up a chicken coop-she remained healthy as hubby and I had as kids. I live in BFE now, go barefoot most of the time, work outdoors and don’t eat processed food-fresh organic only. I don’t get sick as long as I stay away from the city and keep getting my hands dirty in the garden...
winner!
While exposure to foreign bodies boosts the immune system in childhood, as long as the invader doesn’t kill you, some of us born with auto-immune disorders like Crohn’s and FSGS simply just lost the genetic lottery. Primary FSGS is deemed to be caused by a missing protein in the DNA, though Secondary is caused by environmental factors. And now that my immune system is suppressed, purposefully, I want exposure to none of this.
I would never adhere to the recommendation of going and searching for exposure even if I were healthy, but accidental exposure isn’t something to be utterly terrified of.
but shes asking the right questions and Im impressed as hell.
A question that I must have missed? I read it all.(?)
Many parts of the world are lacking in modern plumbing/ medicine and have no shortage of helminths.
For places where diarrhea is part of the job description...
What is the prevalence of the conditions listed?
How does that compare to the modern world?
LOL
Just make sure the worms agree not to invade your brain.
Waiting For the Worms - Pink Floyd

You cannot reach me now
No matter how you try
Goodbye, cruel world, it’s over
Walk on by
Sitting in a bunker here behind my wall
Waiting for the worms to come
In perfect isolation here behind my wall
Waiting for the worms to come
Waiting to cut out the deadwood
Waiting to clean up the city
Waiting to follow the worms
Waiting to put on a black shirt
Waiting to weed out the weaklings
Waiting to smash in their windows and kick in their doors
Waiting for the final solution to strengthen the strain
Waiting to follow the worms
Waiting to turn on the showers and fire the ovens
Waiting for the queers and the coons and the reds and the Jews
Waiting to follow the worms
Would you like to see Britannia rule again,

All you have to do is follow the worms
Would you like to send our coloured cousins home again,
My friend?
All you need to do is follow the worms.
De-worming pills are effective in getting rid of tumors thanks to fenbendazole
Worms huh? Think I'll pass. :)
I’ve got >1000 hours of research to understand why I recovered my health and how it degraded in the first place. Trust me when I say that it’s got nothing to do with worms. There’s no way to quantify the hundreds of pages I’ve put to paper already other than to state - in context of the OP article - you would be enlightened on one large section of the puzzle and why I’m minimizing this article’s context (that worms are the missing link) if you look for the following on Amazon:
The Gut: Our Second Brain.
It’s a little ignorant itself, but illustrates that there’s much more to this. I hope to publish next year.
Sorry...missed pasting the questions you asked about:
“If we dont know why something happens, we cant hope to stop it. We might or might not be able to pull drowning people out of the river, but we really should ask how these people got in the river in the first place. Where are the sinking boats that left these people stranded in the water?”
THOSE are the right questions. Oddly he (not she...my mistake) misses the target by a mile. Still, he’s got the scent; it will be interesting to see if anyone with credentials actually beats me to the punch.
Correlation at best...no proof of causation.
