If you go to www.wunderground.com you can find individual weather stations owned by private individuals and companies like you and me. They buy their own instruments and feed it live to the wunderground.com. They provide some ground truth independent of government and MSM.
The last time there was a supposedly major hurricane the ground stations showed much less wind. Sure enough, the damage was way less than the MSM and government had been talking about. Now with Dorian they seem to be doing the same thing.
The data from Weather Underground stations match Windy.com which match Ventusky.com. They all show much much less wind than the alarmist MSM is saying. Ignore the headlines. Look at the data.
The Station at the Zoo at West Palm Beach Florida is here: https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us/fl/west-palm-beach/33401.
The PGA Station at West Palm Beach is here: https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us/fl/west-palm-beach/33401
Look at their forecasts.
You can select "Change" near the top to pick another local weather station. See for yourself and share.
Ventusky.com, Weather Underground and Windy.com all agree with the same much more modest current readings and forecasts, and do not match the headlines.

Land contact weakened the storm significantly but is now showing signs of strengthening again with eye over open water. Overall footprint of the storm expanding. Future track still not that clear.
Probably less basic wind speed (lower velocity of air flow).
Lateral forces caused by wind vary by the square of the wind speed. So a 150mph hurricane causes 4x the force on a surface as a 75mph 3 spec gust. A 225mph hurricane, (3x the wind speed of a 75mph hurricane, causes about 9X the force on a wall area as the 75mph hurricane.
One correction, cyclones and hurricanes tend to measure winds in Max Sustained winds at 1 min (2min) averages. Peak winds or gusts are usually measured in 3-5sec gusts, which tend to be 30% greater than the Max Sustained Wind over a minute.
You building codes are based upon the 3 sec gust values, (the higher force).
The government bureaucrats really believe that the way to convince people to not repeat Katrina is to exaggerate.
The media is happy to have content that attracts eyeballs.
They both believe that lying/exaggerating is the way to save lives. They both believe that emotion, rather than facts and logic, is the way to save lives. Not much different with weather than with other parts of society.

The Gulf Stream is like a bowling alley gutter for hurricanes.
I’m on the west coast of Florida, where there is little wind currently.
That sums it up perfectly!!!!
Agreed. I think my nephew’s point was that initial forecasts were mainland landfall by last night or this morning. So people are now all prepared but getting a little antsy. But I doubt anyone, especially native Floridians, are thinking the delay is some sort of “all clear”. The satellite images of the pin dot size eye tell the story.
I concur, but the readings aren’t consistent. Narrative indicates rainstorms and showers throughout the day, but precipitation is 0 in. Gusts are 190% wind speed of max sustained winds.
If the wind speeds were 146 mph gust and 126 mph Max Sustained, the ration of gust to max sustained would be more accurate.
Perhaps the reporting stripped off 100 mph in the numbers sent. Rain Gauge topped out, no differential?
Not everything from the source is wacko.
A previous analysis on Epstein provided some interesting observations regarding the paramedics at the emergency bay of the hospital, which I hadn’t considered.
I’ve seen videos of storm surge, but not 150mph+ winds and their consequences.

Even if they are bad people, does it matter? Accurate weather is more important then their politics or whatever. I cant imagine having every aspect of life controlled by politics. Too exhausting.
I check out weather underground. Because I tend to check links and sources and don't take claims at face value just because the MSM is not trustworthy.
At the top of the page is:
"Dorian Now a Fierce Category 5 Hurricane
After pounding the Northwest Bahamas with 180-mph winds, Dorian will move near the Southeast coast this week."
When the mainstream and independent news sites are all reporting the same important information, there is no conspiracy and no hoax.
It is very peculiar. I need to check other airports to see what they are reporting.
I just thought it’s odd they picked the name of a known domestic terrorist organization.
I don’t want politics controlling every aspect of life. That’s what the left does. Nor do I want this organization shunned or investigated or whatever. I’m just noting that they picked a strange name. As someone else here noted, there are younger people who don’t remember the violence and hate propagated by the Weather Underground.
I missed Dorian hitting Florida and causing weird weather station readings. When did that happen?
Oh, it’s really from dagnyintel.com. LOL! It’s all a conspiracy, I tell ya—everything!
Must have been Styrofoam cars that were all bashed up in Marsh Harbor on the videos I’ve seen. There’s no way a 46mph wind could do that.
I wouldn't worry about it ... they're helping to make the political "weather underground" irrelevant. The urban dictionary uses the following as an example of the use of the term "underground":
The mainstream media has a tendency to steal new ideas from the underground.
That's probably the typical thought association for most Americans alive these days
An internet search lists about 10 references other than the political one first.

I don’t know what category 4-5, 185 mph winds hurricane they are talking about because it does not appear to be this one.
