Look at new cases.

3/21 was a one day dip.

Worldmeter seems to now update on randomly.

I expect nature will work its course and the NY numbers will creep up for the next week or so. Really nothing to be surprised about.

All of the authority to act rested in the Administration's hands. The CDC is part of the Administration, so is the FDA, so is Health and Human Services. Trump cut off flights on his own authority. The only thing he needs the Democrats for is money, and if he'd acted earlier, he wouldn't need nearly as much money. He is, personally, to blame for the depths of this crisis in the US. He is the President. In his own words:

Leadership: Whatever happens, you're responsible. If it doesn't happen, you're responsible.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 8, 2013

Same think happened on Mar 21.

No it didn't.

One day is not a trend. Especially on a weekend.

Did your dog eat some of the death report?

Here, make some more silly excuses about the following 4 day trend.

Good point about SARS. Perhaps, after this mess, all countries, especially here in the US will have competent plans.

Good for Taiwan in responding well.

at my hospital we do have some ICU beds available...my whole floor has been dedicated to accepting positive covid or presumptive, meaning we have many many beds available....we have several cases of a different virus...human pneumovirus...which can be deadly as well....I saw this today...if a patient with symptoms comes in, and they do a quick flu swab and if its negative, they automatically say its covid.......no kidding...they did this with Swine flu too....

I wouldn’t put much stock in trying to determine in a trend based on weekend numbers. Last weekend people were talking about Italy had peaked because the numbers were down, before they spiked to their highest ever levels on Tuesday, Wednesday. They’ve since apparently may have peaked late in the week but we need to wait until later this week to see if a trend has taken hold in the US.

The number of new cases and new deaths in NYS has been creeping DOWN for four days.

So I take it you’re voting for Biden, then.

NYS has a large number of newly reported cases. I seriously doubt they have peaked.

Then you’d better stay home because those are the two choices.

That’s exactly what I’m doing. I’m voting down-ballot, but not for President. Maybe I’m lucky in that my vote will be counted in a blood-red State and I can stand on principle. But I am standing on this principle. Trump has lost my vote.

If only we had tightened up our borders and curtailed importing crap from China, like Trump wanted in the first place, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

If you are at a peak, then of course you have a large number.

The number of new daily cases over the last four days is starting to drop.

And Trump will learn from his early mistakes, and will make sure next time it doesn’t happen again.

With anybody else, you can bet this will happen again, and with the same results. Biden didn’t do crap after 2009, to get us ready for this, although there were many lessons learned from that.

Actually, Trump probably NEVER had your vote.

You hated Trump from the start and you’re just looking for any excuse to vote against him.

you say that Trump did nothing, yet did not Trump block flights from China quite early on, whereupon Trump was promptly labeled a racist, xenophobe, China-hater, etc.

You perhaps might be critical that Trump didn’t do everything as swiftly as you would like

yet you are deliberately spreading a falsehood — i.e., you are lying — if you say Trump has done nothing.

The blocked flights from China very early on are SOMETHING but they are NOT nothing.

Great news, but let’s wait and see the next couple of days to see if this is an outlier or a trend.

The whole country deaths may be turn downward faster than expected if this is a seasonal virus, something which is still unknown. The problem with trying to deduce anything about whether this is a seasonal virus is that this is simultaneous with having taken vigorous public health measures starting about two weeks ago.

The whole thing is largely explained by the fact that social distancing started to have an immediate effect in new infections delayed by the 1-2 weeks for the symptoms of those infections to be expressed.
