The James Webb Space Telescope's first deep field view was shared on Monday. The image shows SMACS 0723, where a massive group of galaxy clusters act as a magnifying glass for the objects behind them, including faint, distant galaxies.

CNN — A stellar nursery where stars are born, interactions between galaxies and a unique view of an exoplanet are just some of the new cosmic images that will be shared Tuesday.

After decades of waiting, it’s finally time for the world to see the first images taken by the most powerful space telescope ever – the James Webb Space Telescope.

Development of the world’s premier space observatory began in 2004, and after years of delays, the telescope and its massive gold mirror finally launched on December 25.

The images are worth the wait – and they will forever change the way we see the universe.

President Joe Biden released one of Webb’s first images on Monday, and it is “the deepest and sharpest infrared image of the distant universe to date,” according to NASA. The rest of the high-resolution color images will make their debut on Tuesday.

There are several events taking place during Tuesday’s image release, and all of them will stream live on NASA’s website.

The "closest" star is 4 LYs away.

To put this distance in perspective, if you scaled the sun down to the size of a pea, Alpha Centauri, our closest stellar neighbor, would be 117 miles away.

Imagine two peas separated by 117 miles. These are the distances we are talking about.

And the ”New World” was past the point where “there be dragons.”

Fortunately, there are people who still understand the need for exploration.

117 miles is less than two hours on the expressway.

Ok so how long should I gaze at little colored dots to prove I am “curious”?

The "closest" star is 4 LYs away. THERE IS NO CHANCE OF HUMANS EVER EXPLORING SPACE. So enjoy the little colored dots....

4-dimensional travel will make light-year distances trivial.

Folding space will be the key.

Low curiosity: 23.4 seconds.

High curiosity: 2 minutes. 7.1 seconds.

Have you ever taken a physics class or astrophysics class in college? I have , many of them. Humans are stuck here get used to it.

It’s hard to wrap one’s mind around the fact that there is no end to the universe........

The bad news is there is no end to liberal hate and liberal lies.

You need to attend a spacefaring alien race's college. I have and I aced Space Folding 402, and my senior project was a new implementation of the Tantalus drive.

Do you think a space folder will also work on your laundry as a side benefit?

When I was a kid (long before velcro) we threw cockle burrs at each other. They stuck to clothing. I never bothered to examine them and see the tiny hooks but you could pinch them between you fingers and they did not penetrate the skin.

I have a hard time believing you took a physics class in college. But, yes I understand the problems with space travel.

That said, there are millions of tons of materials on the moon that can be mined. There are asteroids that can be mined. There are moons on Jupiter that should be explored.

Sitting on our hands and thinking we’ve “done it all” is just lazy.

No. As you know, the Hermi Exclusion Principle states that folding the 4th dimension will in no way effect the 3rd dimension, so by the principle of dimensional non-intersection, you will notice no change in your laundry's status.

You can't change a mammal's gender and you can't travel anywhere near the speed of light. I'd try to explain it to you in mathematical terms but you would not understand.

Hey Man, you think I could borrow that again this weekend?

According to NASA’s website that image has THOUSANDS of galaxies in it and covers a patch of sky the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length!

I can still hear that inner eight year old voice in my head giggling after thinking this might be pictures of light, reflecting off gasses from Uranus.

Just had to get that out there. Freegards,
