I was told by a friend from Taiwan, about 15 years ago, that there were no worries about a Chinese invasion, since China considered Japan the enemy, not Taiwan.

Ever since these and "smoke eaters" were around, I've often wondered why these units, since they work at the molecular level, wouldn't be quite effective in defeating any airborne pathogens. (like viruses)

I would say, referencing Grey_whiskers handy list, that the above response in the box primarily employs #17 with hopes of employing #18.17. Change the subject. Usually in connection with one of the other ploys listed here, find a way to side-track the discussion with abrasive or controversial comments in hopes of turning attention to a new, more manageable topic. This works especially well with companions who can ‘argue’ with you over the new topic and polarize the discussion arena in order to avoid discussing more key issues.
18. Emotionalize, Antagonize, and Goad Opponents. If you can’t do anything else, chide and taunt your opponents and draw them into emotional responses which will tend to make them look foolish and overly motivated, and generally render their material somewhat less coherent. This, of course, has nothing to do with the topic of my original post - so I would say there may be a #26 having to do with 'non responsive' posts. It's a reply giving an unrelated answer or appearing to answer a question no one asked. Yes it's changing the subject, but it is presented in a way that suggests it's a direct response when in fact it's just misdirection, in this case even claiming the moral high ground by directing me to prove I'm not a hypocrit by posting my reply in Festival. Hmmmm...I see attempts at moral high ground often in the forum - we may need a 27th rule.

My Dad's folks were from not far outside Chicago, and I can recall the family going to visit them in the summers. Never had any unease about being there back then. How things have changed from those innocent days.
The Chinese have not forgotten how the Japs slaughtered their people in WWII.
